2 MOODS IN 1 TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE: START WITH ART – POEM BY BUNYA NO ASAYASU BY HOKUSAI

2 Moods in 1 Travel Capsule Wardrobe: Start with Art – Poem by Bunya no Asayasu by Hokusai

As of 7:36 Central Time today, I changed the downloadable file that many of you purchased. I understand that the first file was NOT downloading at all! I'm so sorry... If I could avoid these computer-ish snafus, I would!

love,

Janice

July 9, 2020 The Kids Can Canoe All Day... And the rest of us can hike, or go with the kids, or sit on the shore and watch...

She thinks this is brilliant - the 3 families will distance from each other for 14 days; the house is plenty big enough. It will require some vigilance to make certain that the children understand what's required, but they've been pretty smart, so far...

Knowing that they're going to be there probably 'til the first of September, she wants to plan carefully. ... View the Post

RESCUING FORGOTTEN ACCESSORIES: THE NAVY BLACKTHORN SCARF

Rescuing Forgotten Accessories: The Navy Blackthorn Scarf

June 17, 2020

Maybe it's not really a forgotten accessory - maybe you just got it. Still, when a new scarf arrives at your home, it can be sort of overwhelming to figure out what to do with it!

For me, in warm weather, with a rectangular scarf, I would first off try to see if I could wear it in my hair! And then I'd play around with how I would tie it to a handbag. Then I would think about actually wearing it around my neck. The more ways you can find to wear a scarf, the more often you'll be able to incorporate it into an outfit....

Let's ponder how you might wear (or be inspired by) this scarf for the next 4 months...

First month, it's smart to make certain that you've got the necessary solid-colored tee shirts and ... View the Post

Start with Art: Revisiting L’Ombre by Pablo Picasso

June 10, 2020

You might remember this psychiatrist from the spring of 2017; her casual wardrobe occasioned some discussions about how professionals should dress... She Wasn't Sure If She Would Go...

But they've asked her to sit on the dais 1 night, so she feels like that's a reason to show up...

Many of the meetings will be outdoors - better for social distancing, and more relaxing. The dinner's are rather nice, but most of the conference is quite casual...

She can drive there in just a couple of hours, so there's no worry about being on an airplane. And she'll have a private hotel room, and be outdoors much of the time, so overall the conference sounds both safe and... could it be? almost pleasant!

She's got ... View the Post

WHAT DO I NEED IN MY WARDROBE? NAVY, TEAL, PLUM AND LAVENDER

What Do I Need in My Wardrobe? Navy, Teal, Plum and Lavender

May 13, 2020

It was a sort of urgent email - I get those sometimes! In the middle of quarantining and lots of disruption, SHE GOT A PROMOTION!!!! A big one...

After much back and forth, we settled on the 4 colors in our palette, and she has already isolated these 8 things to launch her work wardrobe:

These are her chosen colors:

She's going to need to travel some, and be on screens for teleconferences a lot, so I'm targeting - eventually - a 20-piece wardrobe for her for these "visible" work activities. I thought maybe this template would help me be organized in making recommendations:

So the first thing we need to do is show her 8 existing garments in this template, so we can see where we have ... View the Post

RESCUING FORGOTTEN ACCESSORIES_ THE BOTANICAL BLOSSOMS SCARF

Rescuing Forgotten Accessories: The Botanical Blossoms Scarf

May 12, 2020

Another heroine decided to dig into her accessories and unearth an under-appreciated beauty!

She knew that, when she bought it, she was thinking of bright, cheerful warm days, when she wanted to be as vivid and happy as the flowers...

So she decided that she would wear this scarf twice a month until the end of the summer. Maybe it would just be tied to the handle of her handbag, or worn in her hair, but she wanted to start using and enjoying it!

It might be warm enough to wear sleeveless tops, if she has her cardigan close at hand:

One would hope that by June, she will be able to wear shorts! At any rate, that's her plan:

By July, she plans to wear dresses fairly often. (yes, she discovered how ... View the Post

START WITH ART: MY FAVORITE PUPPY’S LIFE BY FIONA RAE

Start with Art: My favorite puppy’s Life by Fiona Rae

May 7, 2020

The capitalization of the painting is the artist's; artists see things in ways we hope to learn, some day...

While there are quite a few really fun colors in this painting, any heroine worth her salt knows that you've got to limit yourself a bit, at least at the start of a wardrobe "build."

First up, our wise heroine decides to make certain that she has a solid base for her wardrobe in navy and white:

Her heart was SET on hot pink and purple... but the marketplace of clothing didn't really help her out much!

This is one of the hardest parts of putting together any wardrobe - deciding that you KNOW what you want, but then finding that your lovely dreams are not readily available in the retail ... View the Post

START WITH A SCARF_ BUTTERFLIES BY ECHO

Rescuing Forgotten Accessories: Butterflies by Echo

April 28, 2020

She decided she was going to wear them ALL. One, every 3 or 4 months...

So she dug into the very bottom of her scarf drawer, and found this beauty:

She didn't worry about a color palette; if she bought the scarf for herself, she's going to assume that it must go with something in her wardrobe...

So her plan - wear her newly special scarf twice a month, with clothes that she already owns!

April has remained practically a winter month, this year, so she's wearing sweaters... and her butterfly earrings!

May, on the other hand, is all over the map, weather-wise! So she decides that cropped pants, with sleeveless tops and a cuddly cardigan might be her best option.

By the time ... View the Post

BUILDING A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE - EXPANDING A START WITH ART: LIGHT OF IRIS BY GEORGIA O’KEEFFE

Expanding a Start with Art: Light of Iris by Georgia O’Keeffe

April 24, 2020

Last week, they went to the farmhouse to see if they would like to stay there for the long-term. They realized pretty much as soon as they pulled into the drive that they did, indeed, want to stay out of town!

When they thought that they were only going to stay for a few days, she chose her travel capsule wardrobe based on her favorite painting:

She was still wearing her travel outfit when they decided to go back into town and pack up all of their food, their computers, and more clothes. It's only 5 miles, so it won't be a long trip!

Before they drove back, she dashed upstairs and dumped out her tote bag onto the bed. This was she had initially packed:

They talked about packing, on the way back into ... View the Post

START WITH ART: LIGHT OF IRIS BY GEORGIA O’KEEFFE INSPIRES A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE

Start with Art: Light of Iris by Georgia O’Keeffe Inspires a Travel Capsule Wardrobe

April 15, 2020 In Search of Flowers... They might go stay at the farmhouse indefinitely. At first, they thought that staying in town would be better - less "cut off" from civilization and other human life.

But now they realize that they're not seeing anybody anyway, so being closer to nature might be the better option!

She's longing for flowers; she's been thumbing through art books for weeks...

THIS is what she wants in her life - the colors, and the freshness...

So they pull on their boots, and their rain coats, and toss a few garments into a bag; if they decide to move up for a long while, they will return home and pack a LOT of things...

Warning - if you're looking at rubber boots, be absolutely CERTAIN that ... View the Post

ADDING WARDROBE ACCENTS! EXPANDING A NAVY & WHITE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

Adding Wardrobe Accents! Expanding a Navy & White Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

April 13, 2020

It's time for more brightness! And a bit of practicality...

Let's go back to the idea of the Weekly Timeless Wardrobe. Say you've got your 13 items for spring all set in your closet - navy and white are classic!

It's a great year for some cheery, bright colors, and so our heroine has been thinking that red and yellow might be a nice addition for the upcoming season(s):

You don't have to buy dozens of garments in order to bring something new into your wardrobe - our heroine had considered at some length adding a red cardigan too, but realized that it wasn't necessary. She was much happier taking care of her wardrobe basics with white shorts and capris, and then indulging in some floral prints...

Her new ... View the Post

START WITH ART: CHOOSING A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE BASED ON PETIT MATIN BY JOAN MITCHELL

Start with Art: Choosing a Travel Capsule Wardrobe based on Petit Matin by Joan Mitchell

April 10, 2010

I promised pretty colors...

Our heroine is looking for flowers... She's packing for a long weekend, basing her choices on this palette that she's chosen:

Thinking about flowers, and admiring photographs of flowers, were a part of what kept her happy and content during the quarantine. But now, they're going to walk a ton, outdoors, and admire nature.

Now that they're free to travel again, they've found the perfect destination - a mansion house with extensive gardens! Miles and miles of gardens...

She's less conservative than she has been in the past. Once upon a time, she would have a solid navy suitcase, and wear solid navy shoes for the drive. But now, she's more relaxed, and understands that ... View the Post

START WITH ART: BUILDING A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE FROM RISING GREEN BY LEE KRASNER

Start with Art: Building a Travel Capsule Wardrobe from Rising Green by Lee Krasner

April 7, 2020

She's feeling... exuberant...

Now that she's free to travel again, she's going to do things differently. She's had so much time to plan, and she's going to be so much more organized!

This is her color palette:

She's not going to be reckless - she's still wearing her compression socks, and waterproof loafers. But she's finally going to start wearing the scarves that have been living in a dresser drawer for ages...

Before, she would NEVER have considered packing pants that were lighter than dark navy. She wouldn't have consigned lovely scarves to a suitcase, nor would she have traveled with cashmere sweaters.

Now, she realizes that life is for living, and the things that we own are for using ... View the Post
