ADDING PASTEL WARDROBE ACCENTS! EXPANDING A BEIGE & OLIVE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

Adding Pastel Wardrobe Accents! Expanding a Beige & Olive Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

April 22, 2020

She, too, has a wardrobe core of olive and beige, just like that of her friend from Monday's post. But her inspirations for accent colors of quite different!

She saw this painting in Paris, years ago, and took a photograph of it. She has, since then, found a poster of the painting, and hung it in her bathroom! Why not... It reminds her, and keeps her focused.

While there are quite a few possible accent colors hidden in this wonderful work of art, our heroine made her choices:

Of course, she's going to start with her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe 13 core garments, in her 2 neutrals:

She knew in her heart that she was craving light, and softness, and prettiness. She decided to listen to her heart, and ... View the Post

CREATE A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE - START WITH ART: 2 SISTERS WITH A CELLO BY MARIE LAURENCIN

Start with Art: 2 Sisters with a Cello by Marie Laurencin

October 23, 2019

I wanted to show how different accent colors can completely change the look of the neutral grey pieces that we looked at a couple of weeks ago... So I thought that my favorite artist might be a good place to start...

Quiet... She's going away for a week, and she doesn't plan to do any more talking than absolutely necessary! That might sound odd, but her job requires her to answer questions ALL DAY, and she's looking forward to being quiet...

Of course, she will have to order her meals, and thank the various people who are helpful and kind to her...

But she wants to walk around and look at art. Maybe just sit for a while in front of a favorite painting?

Enjoying a good dinner all alone, ... View the Post

CREATE A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE WITH MULTIPLE “MOODS” OR ACCENT COLORS - START WITH AN ARTIST ROMAINE BROOKS

A Wardrobe with Multiple “Moods” or Accent Colors? Start with an Artist: Romaine Brooks

August 9, 2019

Wednesday, our heroine chose accessories and was quite well-prepared for a lengthy trip...

But now, she's really going to travel!

Just to recap, she built her initial travel wardrobe around this stark but captivating painting:

Her initial travel capsule wardrobe is quite complete...

She's made a very tidy start to a quite large travel (or seasonal?) wardrobe:

And her accessories are similarly well planned:

But now, she's going away for 13 weeks! A guest teaching post? A short course at a foreign school? Who could guess...

She knows that there are plenty of women who could travel forever wearing nothing but black and grey, but she's thinking that she wants to introduce some accent ... View the Post

CREATE A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE INSPIRED BY ART: VOCAL FABRIC OF THE SINGER ROSA SILBER BY PAUL KLEE

Start with Art: Vocal Fabric of the Singer Rosa Silber by Paul Klee

July 10, 2019

If you have information about Rosa Silber, please share; I couldn't find anything in English about her! We can certainly conclude that she inspired Paul Klee...

An Unusual Prescription But the conductor, the director, and her personal physician all agreed - go to the resort and sit on the veranda for 12 hours a day for the rest of the week! She needs warm, humid air in her throat and lungs...

She's singing the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, starting next weekend! This is NOT the time to have her voice get weak and faint... but it's just that it needs rest. Rest? She can DO that...

It's only a 3 hour drive...

Maybe she will be able to eat her meals on the terrace? She can't go into the sun - even ... View the Post

Remember our friend the political candidate? Of course she won her election...

She campaigned wearing a small wardrobe based on this painting, and color palette:

Now, she's getting ready for the legislative session in the fall! She's taking the train to the capitol on Tuesday mornings, and staying until until Friday afternoon... Trying to get familiar with the routine, and the policies, and the procedures. Even though the legislature isn't in session, there's plenty to do, and so MUCH to learn...

Since she had such luck with her wardrobe during the campaign, she decides to make only the slightest of changes to her wardrobe plan...

This scarf, in her travel outfit, is much more beautiful than you ... View the Post

Create a Travel Capsule Wardrobe Inspired by Art: Tete Blanche et Rose by Henri Matisse

June 10, 2019 Ride up With Me! "I'm going up to the beach house for the weekend - I'm going to drive, so you can just go with me!"

Her wardrobe palette is deeply invested in black, but for this weekend she eschewing the dark, and going straight-up pastels!

So she tossed her bag into the back seat...

She was expecting the air conditioning to be on full blast, so she pulled a shirt on over her tank top...

She doesn't expect to swim all that much, but she takes her suit along just in case! She does plan to walk along the beach a lot, so water shoes are definitely in the bag...

Generally, at least some people go out for a meal or two, or they go into town to buy groceries and browse around... She makes sure ... View the Post

CREATE A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE INSPIRED BY ART – MADAME LEON CLAPISSON BY RENOIR

April Travel: Start with Art – Madame Leon Clapisson by Renoir

April 24, 2019

Ah, our heroine the opera singer! Remember her from back in January?

She's not the star, but she channels her inner diva quite well!

Most of the time, she's in a costume, so she doesn't need to pack a lot... This week, she's off to her favorite city, to finish up the "regular" opera season with a role in 1 of her favorites. She's had a good season...

This is her inspiration, in so many ways!

She realized long ago that she's made to wear dresses and skirts! So she focuses on navy dresses, with cardigans, jewelry, and scarves to add that bit of drama and femininity that she loves so much... (she was BORN to be an opera singer...)

She loves working with such a neutral, almost predictable base in her ... View the Post

Do All of Your Accent Colors have to Work Together?

Until the last year or so, this is something that I wouldn't have brought to the blog - it would have just been something that was floating around in my brain, bugging me. But knowing how thoughtful and intelligent you are, I thought I'd share...

Yesterday, I was looking at the jerseys worn by the rugby team Stade Francais (yes, they're from Paris) and the colors in them got me to thinking...

It's important (at least my opinion!) to have a core wardrobe neutral color, and a handful of accent colors - typically including a light color for tee shirts and blouses. Having this palette of 5 (approximately) colors makes shopping and coordinating your wardrobe a ton easier.

But should your accent colors ALSO work together? Do they have ... View the Post

Fonds Marins by Lee Ungno – Inspiring a Start with Art Tote Bag Travel Wardrobe

January 15, 2018 They Keep Telling Her That She's an Iconoclast... But she likes to think that she just knows what she likes!

She likes black and white, and she likes pastels...

She likes linen shirts, untucked!

She loves scarves, and bracelets...

She likes to travel light...

She likes to carry a handbag in an unexpected color!

She's comfortable mixing pastel colors...

She's comfortable wearing multiple shades of blue...

But she would NEVER break an icon - they're works of art!

love, Janice

Shallow Deep by Wassily Kandinsky – Start with Art for a Travel Capsule Wardrobe

January 8, 2018 20 Sixth Graders in New York City... Yes, she's completely insane! (if she isn't, she will be by the end of the weekend...)

What's puzzling to all of the other teachers (and the parents!) is how she makes it all look so simple, and so much FUN...

She's always bright and cheery, in both her demeanor and her wardrobe... Comfortable, but still fun and appropriate.

Her clothes always have a touch of color that makes it easy to spot her in a crowd. In New York, that might be useful...

Nobody seems to notice what a tight system she has for her travel wardrobe...

Although they're only going to be there for 2 nights (2 REALLY long nights...), she likes to have plenty of options. Accidents will ... View the Post

Can You Build a Travel Capsule Wardrobe Around a Bracelet?

June 30, 2017

Of course you can! And our heroine here on "Financially Reckless Friday" is going to do just that. (really, I am going to settle on these posts on Wednesdays, I promise...) It WAS Illegal... And they owe her a LOT of money. Now she has to fly back to the Federal Court Offices to sign the paperwork and pick up the check!

She decided to spend the weekend there, in order to take in a concert of a favorite violinist, so she felt that a bit of shopping might be in order; she certainly wants to be appropriately dressed for her legal encounter, and her other activities...

So she starts at Alexis Bittar, where she falls under the spell of a bracelet:

She can immediately see the possibilities - serious black ... View the Post

What Accent Colors go with Navy and Beige? I Have a Dozen Ideas!

May 29, 2017

Today's a holiday, but you get a blog post because I write these in advance - this was completely last Friday! So what I'm saying is that TOMORROW, you're just going to get something short and sweet about my holiday weekend...

It's probably the most common question I get in my email: How can I pick accent colors?

Couple that with lots of questions about the most versatile neutral colors, and I've got a lot to think about!

But I've got to admit that more and more, I'm beginning to suspect that starting with navy and beige in a wardrobe might be the very easiest choice. Only if you have the luxury of starting from scratch, of course, or if you're in a position to build a capsule wardrobe of over a ... View the Post
