CAN A GARDE-ROBE DU MOIS INCLUDE RED AND PINK? START WITH ART: RED HILLS, LAKE GEORGE BY GEORGIA O’KEEFFE

Can A Garde-Robe du Mois Include Red AND Pink? Start with Art: Red Hills, Lake George by Georgia O’Keeffe

November 4, 2020

She wants to be able to dress with a soothing softness. She ALSO wants to dress with invigorating brightness. And she wants to do this within the structure of a 21-piece Garde-Robe du Mois...

What a heroine to do?

Start with art, I suggest...

She looked at how beautiful these colors are together, and took heart!

Here accent color palette looks like this:

First, since she's not going outdoors much at all, she's going to wear ALL of her light-colored neutrals - no slush to splash on her pant legs if she's always at her desk at home!

When she starts to add things to her Common Wardrobe, she first of all craves a bit of pattern, and maybe 1 last pair of pants:

Then she turns with a warm ... View the Post

START WITH ART: ADDING ACCESSORIES TO A WARDROBE – POEM BY BUNYA NO ASAYASU BY HOKUSAI

Start with Art: Adding Accessories to a Wardrobe – Poem by Bunya no Asayasu by Hokusai

October 19, 2020 She Chooses LOTS of Accessories! She has her inspiration:

And her clothes are all chosen (as well as 1 scarf!):

So she heads into the kids rooms with a handful of garbage bags, and duly loads ALL of their clothes into the bags.... It's what they wanted, and she's so happy that they're going to be away from civilization for a few months that she's NOT going to quibble about odd wardrobe requests....

And then, she walks into her bedroom. She needs to pick up some shoes, and whatever other accessories she might want for the next few months. Her first inclination is just to grab her loafers and a pair of slippers and call it a day, but then she pauses, to take the time to think about this with herself and her ... View the Post

START WITH ART – REVISITING POEM BY BUNYA NO ASAYASU BY HOKUSAI

Start with Art – Revisiting Poem by Bunya no Asayasu by Hokusai

October 8, 2020 It Was the Kids' Idea... Remember this heroine, and her gang of friends that were going to the lake house?

The children asked for a "Meeting of the Commune" after dinner. Nobody quite knew when they became a commune, but if it entertains the kids, right?

The bottom line? Let's stay here until at least the end of 2020.

The adults can all take turns going into town for essentials, and to mail their ballots; The internet service is more than adequate for all of the kids to do their school work here; Everybody will be able to spend a LOT of time outdoors, which they can't do in town; The kids have volunteered to help cover the windows in their rooms with the clear plastic stuff that helps keep cold ... REVISITING EIFFEL TOWER BY ROBERT DELAUNAY

Revisiting Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

October 5, 2020

The last time she went to Paris, it all turned out to be... very interesting!

At the end of the 2nd day she was there, she walked up to the woman who had been following her, and asked WHAT was going on?

Well... the woman was looking for another photographer to join the group of official government staff who were documenting all of the most obscure and hidden sculptures and monuments in Paris, and wanted to know if she wanted to be considered...

Uhhh... okay!

She still doesn't know what her new boss saw in her and her photography techniques, that caused her to want to hire her. She frankly doesn't care!

So now, ever other weekend, she takes the train to Paris. She's able to sleep on the train, so she ... View the Post

START WITH ART: THE DARK LADY BY ANNA KATRINA ZINKEISEN

Start with Art: The Dark Lady by Anna Katrina Zinkeisen

Oh MY...

Her bow inspires me...

She Just LOOKS Serious... She always has, even as a child. She wasn't a sober child, really. But her resting face was always pensive...

But she wisely took a positive aspect from this impression that she left - she could dress in practical, gorgeous dark colors - they suited both her coloring and her demeanor!

Thus, when she was forced into the head office for a couple of days of 1st quarter 2021 planning (a woman can dream!), she has no trouble packing:

yes, some of this will look very familiar, but quite different when different colors are involved!

These meetings aren't overwhelmingly dressy, but it's always smart to be prepared for the lovely dinner to ... View the Post

START WITH ART: UNTITLED BY SVENJA DEININGER

Start with Art: Untitled by Svenja Deininger

Another wonderful artist...

Pulled in SO MANY Directions... It's what life has been, for quite a while. But she has a chance to get away for just a few days - it's her turn to go take anything she wants from her great-aunt's home...

She has always allowed herself just a little bit of "all for her" in her life, and in her wardrobe. A wise, careful woman can do great things with a black, camel and cream wardrobe, of course.

But someone who needs to express herself, just a wee bit, is going to grab an occasional accent color!

This isn't going to be a case of rummaging through dusty stacks of worthless debris... her great-aunt had some amazing costume jewelry, beautiful scarves, and some books that ... View the Post

Start with a Scarf: Butterfly Wings from Echo

September 7 2020 Pollinators! Yes, people who study pollinators have conferences - EVERYBODY who studies almost anything has a conference most years! And she's going to this one...

Her travel capsule wardrobe is going to be based on this beauty:

Most of her colleagues study bees - and rightly so - but her specialty is butterflies! And so she's going to wear her scarf often, building a wardrobe around these colors:

For no good reason she can think of, she's going to wear her white jeans to get there. She's not worried... She's more thrilled with her new blazer, and matching earrings:

Weather reports for her destination are all OVER the place, so she's going to take her black shirt with her, so she can wear it under ... View the Post

SEPTEMBER 2020 SIX SCARVES, TWELVE MONTHS, TWELVE OUTFITS

September 2020 Six Scarves, Twelve Months, Twelve Outfits

August 31, 2020

Yes, these are indeed a day early - I'm going to try this Monday, Wednesday and Friday posting schedule for a while to see if I can regain my strength and energy. If anything is going to be energizing AND exhausting at the same time, it's these posts!

Yes, more sweatshirts. I'm determined that I'm going to write about how many of us are dressing. Everybody that I talk to regularly agrees that they're NOT going back to their office this fall - almost certainly not until Spring of 2021. So we're working from home, and we're staying warm in the cooler weather, and trying to keep our utility bills down...

And a nice sweatshirt is a wonderful thing!

Also, I'm smitten with corduroy pants - so everybody's getting cords ... View the Post

How to build a travel capsule wardrobe starting with a Sardonyx bracelet

How to Build a Travel Capsule Wardrobe by Starting with a Bracelet – August 2020

August 21, 2020 Ultimate Job Security...

She's a little bit steamed right now; she doesn't want to travel, but that ONE office that always has issues with their computer network... is having... you guessed it.... ISSUES WITH THEIR COMPUTER NETWORK.

She tried to talk them through the fix. She drew pictures. She wrote checklists. She photographed the computers in THEIR office and put little notes on the photograph to show them what to do.

Not happening.

So she's headed there... against her best judgment and preferences. And she's seeing red...

(okay, maybe it's orange!)

She loves her new bracelet - the knot charm reminds her of the linking and integration that she loves so much in computer networking. So she's using ... View the Post

A FINAL, PERSONAL EVALUATION OF A FULL YEAR WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

A Final, Personal Evaluation of a Full Year Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

August 18, 2020

One last look at this seemingly massive wardrobe. It's funny how gigantic this seems when I'm trying to squeeze everything onto a page! In reality, most of the world would be thrilled to have this much clothing, but I suspect many of us have a lot more than this!

Bring out the magnifying glasses, everyone!

As I sorted through this mass of goodies, my thinking was "what would I take with me if I got to go to ____ for a year?"

My blank is probably going to be filled in by Ireland, or Paris, as I'm sure you're shocked to hear. But I think that many of us might be able to test-drive this kind of possibility. Maybe it's just a chance to live someplace where COVID-19 restrictions aren't quite as erratic and ... View the Post

A SPRING WARDROBE! A NAVY & BEIGE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

A Spring Wardrobe! A Navy & Beige Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

July 31, 2020

One more season! The difference between the Spring wardrobe and the Winter is so pronounced - I thought that I was doing something wrong, until I stopped for a minute and remembered that... well... Spring IS DIFFERENT from Winter.

And I thank Buddha for that, every lovely April day...

You can clearly see that Spring is where my personal preferences shifted to pink WITH A VENGEANCE!

As always, there are 3 clusters here - these could be arranged in a different way if it works better for you! The whole point is that it should work for you...

This is what the original Spring wardrobe looks like when it's broken into 3 Clusters:

Am I going to be able to make this work in navy and ... View the Post

A WINTER CLUSTER WARDROBE IN NAVY, BEIGE, GREEN AND WHITE

A Winter Cluster Wardrobe in Navy, Beige, Green and White

July 30, 2020

If you're tasked with finding a winter wardrobe right now, I wish you all KINDS of luck. This is not a year during which all of the retailers have rushed to thrill us with cashmere, velvet, tweed, and lots of boots...

Nevertheless, we persist...

Remember this wardrobe from week 26 of The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe? I love this one...

So what IS a cluster, anyway? To me, a cluster is a group of clothes - 4, 5 or 6 at the most - that all go together, that give you a range of ensembles, and that are built around 1 or 2 "bottoms."

My logic is that if you have a couple of spare tops to wear with a pair of pants,

you aren't stuck when you're traveling and someone spills coffee on your shirt; if the weather ... View the Post
