START WITH 2 SCARVES_ A CAMEL AND OLIVE GREEN ACCENTED TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE

Start with 2 Scarves: A Camel and Olive Green Accented Travel Capsule Wardrobe

June 16, 2020 She's NOT Happy... Business travel? NOW? Yes, she's got to go. No, her employer won't compromise. She very nearly quits... Especially when she learns that the weather where she's going is decidedly cool...

But they've said that she can fly 1st Class, and eat room service, and have any laundry or other services that she needs for her comfort...

So she starts here:

And then she pulls from her closet a tidy core for her travel wardrobe. A tidy, VERY "prone to need to be laundered frequently" core...

She will probably only need to dress really "up" once, so she's going to need a balance of casual and dressy. She pulls her scarves out of her dresser drawer and spreads them out on the bed, and then starts to ... View the Post

THE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE, WEEK 41: A DARK NEUTRAL, SLEEVELESS TOP

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 41: A Dark Neutral, Sleeveless Top

May 11, 2020

Well, a dear friend of mine is currently moving her plants indoors, because the weekend is supposed to bring freezing temperatures, and I'm writing about summer clothes! (I'm writing this on Friday afternoon May 8th)

Getting the best clothes often requires planning ahead; you can't imagine how often I will see something that I think is perfect to share with you, only to find that there are only 2 sizes still available...

So let's plunge into the possibilities of a simple, dark tank top or other sleeveless top!

For those who are following along with the "6 Scarves, 12 Months" series of posts, these are the tops that I would suggest for a wardrobe based on each of the scarves:

As always, I've got ... View the Post

START WITH ART: BUILDING A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE BASED ON PORTRAIT DE GRETA PROZOR BY HENRI MATISSE

Start with Art: Portrait de Greta Prozor by Henri Matisse

April 23, 2020

She's been sitting for a REALLY long time...

She's taking her favorite painting, distilling it down to the essential colors, and then PACKING!

Black, denim, olive, and BRIGHT golden yellow! She doesn't want to work very hard getting dressed, but she's okay with people noticing her...

It's just for a long weekend... She's going to plan outfits for each day, although she won't necessarily wear every outfit. She just doesn't want to have to work; she's done quite enough work, spending so much time indoors...

Her travel wardrobe is dark, and a bit intense. That's just exactly what she wants - no worry about spilling things, no worry about putting together outfits "on the fly," and no having to shop ... View the Post

ADDING PASTEL WARDROBE ACCENTS! EXPANDING A BEIGE & OLIVE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

Adding Pastel Wardrobe Accents! Expanding a Beige & Olive Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

April 22, 2020

She, too, has a wardrobe core of olive and beige, just like that of her friend from Monday's post. But her inspirations for accent colors of quite different!

She saw this painting in Paris, years ago, and took a photograph of it. She has, since then, found a poster of the painting, and hung it in her bathroom! Why not... It reminds her, and keeps her focused.

While there are quite a few possible accent colors hidden in this wonderful work of art, our heroine made her choices:

Of course, she's going to start with her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe 13 core garments, in her 2 neutrals:

She knew in her heart that she was craving light, and softness, and prettiness. She decided to listen to her heart, and ... View the Post

ADDING WARDROBE ACCENTS! EXPANDING A BEIGE & OLIVE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE

Adding Wardrobe Accents! Expanding a Beige & Olive Weekly Timeless Wardrobe

April 20, 2020

After being indoors for AGES (I'm in my 6th week...), I find that paintings full of "nature" colors really appeal...

Today's heroine realizes that she's going to need to move toward some navy, maybe by the time summer rolls in... Her current Weekly Timeless Wardrobe for Spring is lovely beige and green, but she understands that the green is just too difficult to find.

This is her inspiration:

She's going to indulge in some accent colors, before she starts gradually working on her 3rd neutral...

Here's where she's starting:

For so long, she's been comfortable with muted colors. But now that she's free to be out and about, she is really in the mood for something bolder and brighter!

After much ... View the Post

ONE WAY TO EXPAND A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE – CLOUD RAINFOREST SCARF BY KLEMENTS

One Way to Expand a Travel Capsule Wardrobe – Cloud Rainforest Scarf by Klements

April 8, 2020

I'm very infatuated with this scarf; it it were in my colors, it would be in my closet!

These colors feel like autumn, but in lovely linen this is a great palette for warmer weather:

You may remember back on the last day of March (which seems like it was about a year and a half ago!) our heroine was hopping on trains to visit new cities and towns, and was using these colors as the basis for her wardrobe. These were the clothes that she was packing:

Our heroine has decided to go on a longer vacation - there's no reason to hoard vacation time... She's been so happy with her tiny travel wardrobe that she chooses to use it as the base for her larger wardrobe. How can she make this work?

First, she ... View the Post

START WITH A SCARF_ BUILDING A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE STARTING WITH THE CLOUD RAINFOREST SCARF FROM KLEMENTS

Start with a Scarf: Building a Travel Capsule Wardrobe Starting with the Cloud Rainforest scarf from Klements

March 31, 2020 She Wants to Get Away... Now that she's free to travel again, she's got a plan. Pack the least she can possibly sort for a long weekend, generate a random number under 20 on her computer, and head to the train station...

This is her inspiration:

And this is her color scheme:

Every other weekend, from now 'til the cows come home, she's going to pack up her backpack on a Friday afternoon and head to the train station...

That random number? That's the train stop number at which she's going to get off the train and spend a long weekend! She wants to get to know a lot of new places, and spend her modest travel budget in some smaller cities and towns...

She spent a really long time trying to figure ... View the Post

ANALYZING 2 WARDROBES: WHEN YOUR COLOR PALETTE IS CHALLENGING

Analyzing 2 Wardrobes: When Your Color Palette is Challenging

December 20, 2019

The last two wardrobes! These were the most difficult - no question. And I made a couple of early strategic mistakes that I would re-do...

First up, this excellent scarf!

I should NOT have tried to make white one of the neutral colors. White as a neutral really only works well if you live in a hot place and don't mind laundry...

A smarter move would have been to use brown and navy as "co-neutrals" and then white, red, turquoise and orange as accents. This would still have been a big stack of colors with which to work, but it might have been a better balance. It's always easy to look back and say what I might have done differently, isn't it?

I went off the rails in a big way in February - I had designated ... View the Post

BUILD A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE BASED ON 6 HERMES SCARVES

September 2019 – 12 Months, 12 Outfits – based on 6 Hermes Scarves

September 4, 2019

My favorite post of the month! Although I love everything I give you, I must admit...

For new readers, the thesis is this: in January I choose 6 Hermes scarves from the new season, and then, for a year, I add a new outfit each month to six gradually growing and developing wardrobes. It's fascinating to see how the wardrobes evolve...

Even though the weather is still quite warm (in the Northern Hemisphere, that is!), this is honestly the time to start getting your fall and winter outfits together. The selection is best now, both for styles and sizes. And having these outfits ready for that first cold day gives you both a sense of security AND something to anticipate! (it's good to have something wonderful to ... View the Post

CREATE A TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE INSPIRED BY A SCARF - TOM BAKER’S DOCTOR WHO SCARF!

Start with a Scarf: Tom Baker’s Doctor Who Scarf!

August 30, 2019

When one of my favorite people in the whole world wants me to try something, I'm there for him! EVERY TIME!!! She's An Event Coordinator... And she's being sent to another property to supervise a Doctor Who convention. Her kids bought this for her; they thought it was hysterically funny....

She looked at the scarf for a few minutes, and then had an epiphany! She loves camel and olive, and she realized that this could work...

She bought a couple of sweaters to pick up her "new" accent colors, and found that it was indeed possible to pull together a travel capsule wardrobe using a VERY unlikely color palette...

She forced her kids to come into her room before she packed, just so they could see what ... View the Post

THE WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE, WEEK 5: JEANS OR A DENIM BOTTOM

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 5: Jeans or a Denim Bottom

July 29, 2019

I think it's about time we found something to wear below the waist, don't you think? For most of us, jeans or something similar seems the most logical place to start. When I was young, jeans were mostly for the young, and even up until about 5 years ago, when I traveled to Paris I seldom saw anybody over the age of 30 wearing jeans. But now? Jeans, in good condition - no holes, clean but not crispy pressed (no creases!) are seen on almost anybody...

As always, I have some thoughts about what to look for.... And as always, these are GUIDELINES, not hard-and fast rules. Nobody is entitled to tell you what to wear unless you're somewhere that requires a uniform. Otherwise, we're all on our own! (which makes building a ... View the Post

FEBRUARY 2019 -12 MONTHS, 12 OUTFITS – BASED ON 6 HERMES SCARVES

February 2019 -12 Months, 12 Outfits – based on 6 Hermes Scarves

February 1, 2019

First things first: after much consideration, I'm going to continue to use the Appaloosa des Steppes scarf, even though the design elements in the scarf are indeed from Kyrgyz rugs. I contacted the Kyrgyzstan embassy to ask if they were concerned or offended by this, and never received a response. After I read the Hermes website description of the design, I felt that they were using the images respectfully. I can't swear to this, but unless I get better information, I'm going to carry on. (to catch up on this conversation, check the comments on last month's installment of this series)

But don't ever hesitate to contact me about things like this; I will always take your concerns very seriously, and try to respond ... View the Post
