A handful (plus one) of navy garments can give you nine different combinations. Once you toss in three different "accessory families", you have a world of options. With a tee shirt or two thrown in, wouldn't this be a blissfully easy way to pack? ... View the Post

This color palette felt to me like it was giving you permission to indulge in a variety of shades of pink, and so that's sort of what I did. I also took this opportunity to pretend that the person choosing this capsule wardrobe had a deep and abiding passion for stripes. That sort of fondness/obsession is great in a wardrobe, if it's deeply and truly felt. You should definitely wear your heart on your literal sleeve if you know what you like, and you're happy sharing it with the world. It certainly makes shopping more focused, and you project a clear point of view to everyone around you!
Why yes, the grey and blue shirts are the same, except for the color. When you find shirts that fit well, it's not ... View the Post
The same grey clothes are going to get a bit more mileage - this time, combined with denim, and softest shades of pink and a kind of lavender-ish rose. When I built this color scheme, my thinking was that when the accent colors are so closet together and have so much the similar feeling and mood, that it sort of gives you the freedom to use any color within that entire family. First up, the finished capsule wardrobe:
This is the color scheme, with that absolutely annoying grey that will NOT show up well once it's transferred into a PDF. Sheesh....
When using denim as one of your neutrals, it's can be helpful if some of the denim has some texture or pattern, so that you don't end up looking like you're wearing the ... View the Post
Even in the warmest weather, a lightweight scarf can be useful - last weekend, in the heat of Florida, I used my simple gauze scarf to keep the frigid breezes off of my neck and shoulders more than once!
But what color to choose? You know you want to wear your new scarf with your white summer clothes, but there are so many options...
(I'm giving you six links to the six scarves, so you can see which colors I chose - there are 13 more colors available in this scarf!)
These white clothes have been digitally "tarnished" a bit so that we can actually see them on the screen. In real life, they would be sparkling, crispy white.
When you're tempted by a variety of colors, it might help to think about what ELSE you have (or ... View the Post
Maybe this is the living room of your dreams:
But your core wardrobe is our usual:
So let's try the same exercise we did before - find three garments that reflect the warmth, the rosiness, the ornate and filigreed nature of the room...
You have to keep, somewhere in the back of your mind, the reminder that you need to work with neutrals of black, white and khaki. Otherwise, let your heart go wild... and you will have lots of ways to wear them.
If this feels comfortable for you, you can branch out and add a few accessories that also share you sensibility...
These will work beautifully with what you already own...

The weather's cold, and you've got to go on a business trip. A SERIOUS trip...
Start with a comfort garment - the favorite cardigan will make you happy, and will suggest your color scheme too! Choose a couple of outfits that ensure that you bring all of the pieces of your black suit, add a couple of jazzy red garments, and you're all set for business events. One simple dress, and everything will fit in a carry-on bag.
A black winter coat, and some gloves, will be needed here, of course:
First day in the home office - better look serious!
And you know they're going to take you out to dinner...
Second day in the office is a lot more mellow, because you're actually going to have to do some ... View the Post

My last springtime adventure in imaginary shopping is the "how to experiment with a fashion color" question. I'm totally smitten with this striped top, and my desire for it would be sufficient to convince me to introduce pink into my wardrobe for six months or a year - however long the top lasts.
Here is a case in which I would NOT spend a lot of money on jewelry, and I would buy a decent pair of shoes or sandals, but not a long-term investment pair. This small shopping spree is designed to brighten up my wardrobe for spring, indulge in a garment which I love, and participate in the "brightly colored pants" trend, without breaking the bank.
These are the basic spring and summer garments that I'm going to use to ... View the Post
Still evolving the same packing which started with my honeymoon, I'm now thinking of a trip where you're leaving a cooler climate (maybe early autumn in northern climes) and heading south. Brown keeps your grounded in the September or October mood, but still lots of soft coral colors to enjoy your vacation destination!
Tomorrow is the last installment of this particular theme and variations; I'll be using the color of the year - tangerine!!! (the identifying of annual colors always makes me laugh...) ... View the Post
Some people struggled with yesterday's blue and camel combo, so I've "warmed" up the coloring a little bit with some beautiful coral...
