What a great necklace! It made me think of softness, iridescence, and creating a background that wouldn't detract from the details of the clasp, and the textures of the pearls. ... View the Post

People ask me every day how to build a capsule wardrobe. There are as many different approaches as there are women in the world, but one of my favorite ideas is to work in "pods" of four garments. Find a color and fabric that really REALLY appeals to you - one that sings to your heart, and either buy or have someone make for your four core garments - two tops and top bottoms.
Seamstresses are going to be very useful friends...
And note, everything in this entire post is from L.L.Bean. I love them, and they've never (yet!) given me a single piece of clothing in exchange for shamelessly promoting them...
Immediately, you have four new outfits:
But no matter how much you love nautical red, you ... View the Post
I love this necklace, with the range of colors that it presents, but the thing that I kept returning to was the possibility of using a warm, caramel-y, golden color to pick up the burnished metallic setting.
Proof that a signature accessory does not have to be blindingly expensive! ... View the Post
Come visit today at A Femme d'un Certain Age, where I finish off my series of April in Paris, using lots of beige and a bit of blue for zing! ... View the Post

Someone asked me to suggest a few outfits to go with the lovely Les Parisiens scarf. This particular coloring is a perfect opportunity to mix warm beiges or browns with black, so I took that as my motif.
Please note that I'd be more than happy to suggest outfits to go with any scarf - it certainly doesn't have to be Hermes. Just post a comment with a link to a picture of your scarf, or email me a picture at email@example.com, and I'll take a look! ... View the Post
Come see me today at Tish's, where I explore April in Paris in neutral colors with a bit of pattern and texture. I would SO love to be sitting in a Paris cafe right now, watching it rain... ... View the Post
Still evolving the same packing which started with my honeymoon, I'm now thinking of a trip where you're leaving a cooler climate (maybe early autumn in northern climes) and heading south. Brown keeps your grounded in the September or October mood, but still lots of soft coral colors to enjoy your vacation destination!
Tomorrow is the last installment of this particular theme and variations; I'll be using the color of the year - tangerine!!! (the identifying of annual colors always makes me laugh...) ... View the Post
Some people struggled with yesterday's blue and camel combo, so I've "warmed" up the coloring a little bit with some beautiful coral...

Today, I've swapped out the black for a much softer camel, and you can see that with just a few adjustments to the accessories, the same 5 (core neutral garments) + 2 (white or light neutral tops) + 7 (accent pieces, including a jacket or coat) approach continues to work.
This could be particularly useful if you have a well-established base wardrobe in your best neutral(s), and were considering making a big investment in a new accent color. The seven garments, a scarf, a couple of pieces of jewelry, and you've added LOTS of new options to your core wardrobe.
Stay tuned; I'm still playing with this idea!

This is the last of the cardigan-based travel wardrobes that started with last week's "Flying in Cardigans". This assortment is ideal for a short business trip which combines dressy and more casual activities. I apologize for my currently messed-up schedule, I'm going to have to rely on your imaginations to build all of the possible combinations yourself! ... View the Post
You DO understand that when we invoke the "dream meme" of Packing for Paris, we also mean "a plan for what I will purchase this spring and summer"? I know we're not all going to Paris, but it's a lovely structure around which to plan this season's carefully curated and deliberately distilled wardrobe additions...
And I've got to go to work soon, so you'll have to build your own outfits from these choices. Someone once commented to me that it was like paper dolls! Enjoy, and thanks for being here. ... View the Post
