START WITH ART: INVOLVEMENT SERIES BY WANDA PIMENTEL

Start with Art: Involvement Series by Wanda Pimentel

March 31, 2020 You Don't Have to Wear the Polo Shirt and Khakis... She's the only woman going to the trade show. She plans to sell rings around the rest of the delegation.

But they want her to wear red, black and white every day. Oh my...

Since she's the only woman going from her company, she will get her own room. That's ideal - she will leave the ironing board up the entire week. She wants to be crisp and fresh every morning, knowing full well that by the end of the day she will look like a crumpled tissue!

So she's going to be inspired by this - except for the enigmatic and faintly menacing toes behind the ironing board:

Her color scheme is going to brighten up the beige to a more true white (to match her employer's ... View the Post

WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE #3 – ACCENT COLOR TEE SHIRT

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe #3 – Accent Color Tee Shirt

March 29, 2020

I couldn't choose which color, so I included two!

just for reference, here's the master list of 52 garments for 52 weeks of the year:

Back in the dark years of my retail career, there was a rule of thumb that if you didn't know what accent color to suggest to someone, you should try:

(1) the color of their lipstick (this was back in the days when a department store would actually HAVE a range of such colors),

(2) the color of their blush (ditto),

(3) some shade of coral - from quite close to pink to quite close to orange, or

(4) turquoise - anything from almost green to almost pure blue.

We had good luck with these ideas! Yes, this tee shirt isn't turquoise, but it's a very wearable blue for a ... View the Post

START WITH A SCARF_ TIGER IN THE GRASS BY ECHO

Start with a Scarf: Revisiting Tiger in the Grass by Echo

March 26, 2021

She's going back for another long weekend, after she set everybody straight back in December...

This is still her favorite scarf - she's not so fickle that she would find a new favorite in just a few months!

But she's changing her color scheme to something softer and more approachable; after her last visit, she doesn't need to be as assertive as before!

For the first meetings when she arrives, she's going to be positively quiet, and let everyone else air their opinions, grievances, and silly ideas:

The balance of the long weekend is going to be casual - informal conversations and projects, so she packs an assortment of relaxed clothes that all still echo the colors of her scarf, albeit in a lighter ... View the Post

how to build a capsule wardrobe starting with a yellow and gray Bracelet

March 2021 Start with a Bracelet: The Illuminated Lynx

March 24, 2021

The Pantone colors for 2021 are Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray - these are our inspirations this month!

She loves the idea of illumination, so when she was invited to go to the retreat with some friends, she jumped at the chance!

Quiet, meditation, small groups talking about life... She's more than ready to spend a long weekend at this!

Thus, she chose soft yellow and medium grey - symbolic of the sun breaking through clouds?

The weather will be uncertain - sunny but cool in the evenings. And the agenda is very relaxed; she's been assured that some participants will show up in sweat clothes and wear ONLY sweat clothes the entire time.

This isn't really about how you dress, and she knows ... View the Post

WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE #2 – DARK NEUTRAL TEE SHIRT

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe #2 – Dark Neutral Tee Shirt

March 22, 2021

Hurrah! I love these posts...

And I've been really disciplined about NOT showing you yet another black tee shirt. While in my world, a stack of black tee shirts is a necessity - almost as important as coffee! - I know that for many of you, black is anathema...

So let's go olive!

Just for reference purposes, here's the master list. I'm going to try to replicate the 13 items for Spring in my own wardrobe, soon...

This is a great color - hard to find, but lovely, warm and rich:

This is a perfect color with beige...

If you feel like your skirt's a little bit dressy, a simple tee shirt will bring down the dressiness quotient a lot!

And don't miss this handbag; it costs as much as a rent ... View the Post

LITTLE THINGS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE…

Little Things Can Make a Difference…

March 19, 2021

Sunday is World Down Syndrome Day - and wearing snazzy socks is one way that they suggest we observe the day! The thinking is that when someone comments on your witty or eye-catching socks, you can talk to them about Down Syndrome...

I can run with this idea!

This is a great time of year to treat oneself to something fun, pretty, and still practical. At least in Chicago, we're not wearing Spring clothes, and our winter things are looking tired... A bit of color might be a great little splurge!

Honestly, Talbots has the best accessories...

Maybe you're in the mood for butterflies?

Even the seriously achromatic among us can have some fun:

Maybe you're craving the great outdoors? Your socks can ... View the Post

I LOVE IT BUT WILL I WEAR IT? BRIGHT PATINA GREEN CARDIGAN

I Love It But Will I Wear It? Bright Patina Green cardigan

March 17, 2021

Yes, I used to live in Ireland. And I'm married to an Irish citizen. And I don't own a STITCH of green clothing!

But one of you has been very tempted by this classic cardigan in this very lovely color:

I was specifically asked about wearing this with beige, so I was able to avoid trying to find camel clothing at this "almost spring" point. Hallelujah for that!

You can see that the olive is going to be an interesting issue...

Are we all convinced that owning a simple white shirt and classic jeans is a good idea?

This was a specific question, and I personally think that this color looks lovely with beige. The earrings and scarf are sort of perfect with this, I think.

And the bag is quite a few ... View the Post

WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE #1 – LIGHT NEUTRAL TEE SHIRT

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe #1 – Light Neutral Tee Shirt

March 15, 2021

Ah, the Ides of March mean that Spring is almost here, and that means that we can revisit the Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, starting with Spring!

Of course, you can easily wear a tee shirt this time of year, with something over it, but we're going to look at a few different ideas for why this tee shirt never needs to be put in storage...

Just to refresh everybody's memory, here's the master list of garments that I (and I alone!) consider to be the core of a wardrobe:

I personally always wear crewneck tee shirts, so just to shove me out of my comfort zone, we're going to consider a v-neck tee today:

Obviously, this tee is perfect in warm weather. Worn with shorts, and layered under a summery ... View the Post

ACCESSORIES! REVISITING THE PHOTO FLORAL SILK SQUARE BY ECHO

Accessories! Revisiting the Photo Floral Silk Square by Echo

March 12, 2021

I couldn't resist revisiting this scarf; the colors and the stunning floral images really stuck in my mind! (and at this point in my life, anything that I can remember is a good thing...)

Here's the original post...

As we have done in the past, each outfit from the original post will be back here, but this time with accessories!

Also, as in the past, I will try to re-use a few accessories just to reinforce the fact that we don't have to have all-new (or different) accessories for each outfit. That's nutty, wasteful, and the road to confusion and over-consumption!

First up, I love the idea of accent socks, and these tie-dyed ones are the perfect color...

Some day I'm going to find socks of one of my ... View the Post

STRESS DRESSING MINI-WARDROBES FOR CHANGING SPRING WEATHER

Stress Dressing Mini-Wardrobes for Changing Spring Weather

March 10, 2021

The weather is impossible right now - in the best way! After literally weeks of single-digit temperatures and mounds of snow, we're now experiencing lovely afternoons, with sun and noticeable warmth!

But what to wear? Especially if you've got your hands full and don't want to think too hard...

I'm sure you will notice that I changed a few things, but left some from our earlier adventures in Stress Dressing for cold weather. There's nothing like the stress of having to find ALL NEW THINGS for your emergency wardrobe, eh?

I gave some thought to what my general guidelines might be for choosing these pieces, although I'm pretty confident that you could sort this for yourself pretty easily:

These wardrobes ... View the Post

I LOVE IT, BUT WILL I WEAR IT? GREY V-NECK CASHMERE SWEATER

I Love It, But Will I Wear It? Grey V-Neck Cashmere Sweater

March 8, 2021

Let's look at a lovely grey sweater!

please note that this style is loosely cut, and oversized; if you're looking for something more traditional, try this one! or maybe one of FIFTEEN colors of the crew-neck sweater...

As before, we will take a look at how this sweater works in an outfit that includes another neutral color:

The first thing that I did when I started this post was to copy over the outfits from the camel sweater adventure, remove the camel sweater and plug in the grey one. Just as a starting point, you understand?

What I found was that I had to only make minor changes in the accessories for some outfits to get a better "feel"; in the case of 2 outfits I didn't have to change a thing!

SEARCHING FOR BALANCE_ START WITH ART – MEADOW BY MAINIE JELLETT – THE 2ND VERSION!

Searching for Balance: Start with Art – Meadow by Mainie Jellett – The 2nd Version!

March 5, 2021

Let's take another look at this painting, with a heroine who is looking for a balance of light and dark, soft and bright...

The original post is here...

Here color palette is more like this:

you'll notice that this heroine has chosen quite a few of the same garments as our heroine from a couple of weeks ago; I'm interested to see if this will work!

The pants that she's chosen as the base of her March (ish) wardrobe are a mix of darker and lighter:

From here, our heroine is going to choose 5 small, 4-piece clusters, and these 20 garments (plus 1 Wild Card choice) will make up her Garde-Robe du Mois for the next 30 days, more or less!

This will look familiar; with a great scarf or jewelry (or on ... View the Post
