This scarf beautifully illustrates the flags of the 17 participating countries of the Marshall plan, and architectural details from the State Apartment of the Hotel de Talleyrand. The border of the scarf features a quote from General Marshall regarding the necessity of the Marshall Plan. The Hotel de Talleyrand served as headquarters of the Marshall Plan from 1948 - 51. ... I love this necklace, with the range of colors that it presents, but the thing that I kept returning to was the possibility of using a warm, caramel-y, golden color to pick up the burnished metallic setting.

Sigh... My trip wasn't really fruitful, in terms of Chic Sightings. Midway Airport in Chicago is NOT the place to look for fashion icons...
But I was in the Burlington Mall on Sunday, and saw a lovely young woman - long blond hair, no makeup, radiant smile, and this colorful ensemble. She looked comfortable and happy, and it didn't hurt that she was with a very attractive young man! ... View the Post
I received a question about what could be worn with a specific Hermes scarf - one with a lot of brown, beige and camel tones in the center, and a bright green border. My suggestions include all of the shades of brown, gold, white, and navy, which is always so nice with bright green...
And a lot of these clothes come from J. Crew. I've been spending a LOT of time lately in the local J. Crew store, gift shopping, and I've found that they stock a large number of nice-quality basic garments. Maybe not to your taste, or your budget, but certainly they are good "thought-starters".

Lots of people really liked my post about a "Chanel-inspired" wardrobe based on 2 suits, but expressed concern because they found it too dressy. So I've tried here to work from the same general idea - four garment groupings in 2 neutral shades, and then build around them for a 24-piece wardrobe. This is primarily a very casual wardrobe, with only one skirt, and one dressy blouse. There are some flowers, and some lace, and the obligatory Spring 2012 pair of "fashion color" pants... Enjoy! ... Someone suggested that I build a wardrobe based on my old blog photograph, of Melrose Abbey in Scotland. These are beautiful, subtle colors that combine in lovely ways, and I could have chosen a hundred different palettes, just based on this one photo! Build your own color-schemes, based on photos, here. ... View the Post

As soon as I posted yesterday's illustrations, I received some questions about using other colors with navy. So here are two additional ways to work with the core of navy garments and brown accessories...
My next plan is to show THE SAME navy garments, only with accent clothing and accessories in cool colors. A core (a "Not so Crazy Eights") of a neutral color has a lot of potential for serving as a base for any favorite color you might want to wear!

The beginnings of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere bring with it the inevitable fashion disasters of beautiful coats, worn with beautiful accessories, all of which were chosen blindly, without plan or purpose.
Which is a better winter wardrobe? ... View the Post
