Expanding a Small Summer Wardrobe - Start With Art Florentine Villas by Paul Klee

Expanding a Small Summer Wardrobe – Start With Art: Florentine Villas by Paul Klee

March 30, 2026

I'm sure you remember back to Friday, when we met our heroine who was going to try to have a more organized "weekend and vacation" wardrobe for the upcoming warm weather.

Her favorite painting, and her wardrobe color palette, are this:

She never wears blue. Nor purple, but I still like her!

When she arrived for her first weekend this year at the summer house, she has the following wardrobe:

The weather was cool back home, so our heroine decided to wear this outfit to drive home, and then she just wore the same thing on Friday evening to come back up to the gathering family and friends at the house:

Our heroine has a pretty clear vision of how she wants to ... View the Post

Starting A Spring and Summer Wardrobe – Start With Art Florentine Villas by_20260327_085720_0000

Starting A Spring and Summer Wardrobe – Start With Art: Florentine Villas by Paul Klee

March 26, 2026

She likes these colors, and the angular, graphic qualities throughout this painting:

She discovered at the end of last summer that she just doesn't wear blue - not denim, not chambray, not a tee shirt...

This summer, her wardrobe is going to be these colors:

Last summer, on the last weekend they were at the summer house, she carried out enough clothes to outfit her entire extended family, plus a few neighbors! She didn't have a plan, she didn't have a clear color palette, and she forgot what was already AT the house. Not this year!

The weather is changeable, so she's starting with a mix of legitimately summery clothes, and adding in a couple of sweaters, and a pair of long-sleeved shirts...

Ready for Spring? Start With Art - Costal Image by Theo van Rysselberghe

Ready for Spring? Start With Art – Costal Image by Theo van Rysselberghe

March 20, 2026

I had hoped to see this painting at The National Gallery in London, but I understand that it's not currently on display. I'm sure I'll find something else that appeals...

With warmer weather approaching (although we had HAIL last night...) I thought that this felt just right:

Yes, we started with this heroine six years ago, at the beginning of pandemic work from home... I did NOT look back at her original wardrobe when I started this; it's interesting that yet again, I chose to work with wardrobe clusters!

Our heroine is still working from home most of the time. They're expected to be in their office four days a month - generally everybody shows up on Thursday because they bring lunch in for everyone. If you ... View the Post

August 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #1: Pines by the Sea by Bertha Lum

August 1, 2025

It delights me that we're into August - it just gets us that much closer to the weather that I like the most! Bring on autumn...

But now, for our first wardrobe, let's start with this soft, graceful and flawlessly balanced beauty:

This month's offerings in the retail space are pretty sparse; I'm hopefully that next week things won't all be selling out! But our heroine had some excellent shopping luck - she found a trove of really nice chambray. It's endlessly frustrating that during the hottest part of the summer, one struggles to find a nice pair of shorts or a pretty top...

This month, I've chosen to divide our heroine's wardrobe by color - another month, I might divide things by style.

I find it ... View the Post

Craving Bright Colors Start With a Bracelet - Fauvist Lynx Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

Craving Bright Colors? Start With a Bracelet – Fauvist Lynx Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

July 28, 2025

Normally, she lives in white in hot weather. She seldom gets dirty, and when she does, she shrugs it off as a normal part of life. She likes the clarity, the simplicity, the way it shows off her complexion...

But this year, she's craving bright colors! And she knows just where to start:

The colors clash. That's how it's supposed to work; she knows the inspiration, and she completely approves:

She studies her new bracelets for a few minutes, and decides on the three colors that will be her summer accents this year. Well, at least for this year!

She starts her planning with her favorite white things for summer:

Here's where the fun starts! She feels as if she's colored within the lines, ... View the Post

Dublin What I REALLY Packed, Emergency Shopping, and Chic Sightings

Dublin: What I REALLY Packed, Emergency Shopping, and Chic Sightings

July 23, 2025

Will someone clarify for me WHERE July has gone?

When I was in Dublin, there were a couple of days when the temperatures were up around 80 degree Fahrenheit, which is quite warm by Dublin standards. I learned to my chagrin that it's also quite warm by MY standards!

First lesson - when a country's weather service issues weather warnings of any sort, heed them. They probably haven't had their budgets cut the pieces so their work is still thorough and accurate, and they certainly know something about local weather that you don't...

The resident of Dublin were smart - they flocked by the hundreds to parks:

Let's flash back to how I packed for Ireland; I changed things up after I posted my travel capsule ... View the Post

Warm Accent Colors Start With a Scarf Monet's Garden at Argenteuil from The Met Store

Warm Accent Colors? Start With a Scarf: Monet’s Garden at Argenteuil from The Met Store

July 11, 2025

She's only going to be there two days - maybe three, if things go haywire.

And it's a legendarily relaxed and informal office. She's okay with that!

She decides to start with her favorite scarf:

She knows that she's going to be alone at a work station somewhere along a bench. Yes, someone will check in on her project, and they will certainly take her out to lunch, but it's not going to be strenuous, nor messy.

So she decides that the easiest thing to do is start with her favorite ivory wardrobe core:

A couple of tee shirts are all of the clothing that she will need. Some accent accessories and she's happy:

Her shoes are all so flat that - even with seven garments - this will all fit into ... View the Post

July 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #6: Of by Elizabeth Magill

July 8, 2025

I'm leaving for Dublin today! Cross your fingers that THIS time, things work out... Please note that there will be blog posts while I'm away, but I won't be responding to comments because I'm not taking a computer with me. Sort of like a real vacation!

Now, the last of our paintings for July. This might be, for many of us, the most challenging wardrobe because the color palette is very limited. I like it because it requires me to be creative and resourceful - both good qualities to develop when working with anything that's a limited resource, like clothing...

This heroine is completely immersed in summer! And such beautiful accessories...

This is proof that the difference between Spring and Summer might just ... View the Post

July 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #5: The Swan No. 24 by Hilma Af Klint

July 7, 2025

I need to get a biography of Hilma Af Klint... She's got to be an interesting person, don't you think?

Our heroine is smack in the middle of hot weather, and was luck to be able to find things that are perfect for right now. And I think this might be one of our heroines who doesn't wear dresses or skirts very often; she chose white jeans in place of a denim skirt! I don't blame her a bit...

This is what her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe looks like now; I've taken the liberty of making the change where she substituted jeans for a skirt.

You do know that this template is a guideline, and not a law? For example, if you abhor cotton turtlenecks, I would NEVER force you to own one...

This wardrobe has lots of ... View the Post

July 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #4 Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

July 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #4: Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

July 4, 2025

Okay, THIS might be one of my favorite paintings ever. Although I can't imagine how one would EVER get a view of the Eiffel Tower like this, these days...

Today's heroine is stocking up on summer clothes; she's one of the really lucky people for whom summer things are still available!

She's particularly happy to find a trove of her aqua accent:

It's a good thing that our heroine was able to find warm-weather clothes; her wardrobe still seems to have quite a gap! Next month, she may have to focus on her navy neutral and beige accent to find things...

Her wardrobe doesn't look terribly focused on cold weather wear, though. There are few "4-season" places where this wardrobe wouldn't serve someone pretty ... View the Post

July 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #3: Street Lights by Stefan Johansson

July 3, 2025

This painting makes me want to visit the Klaralven River... maybe go canoeing...

WHO AM I KIDDING? Maybe sitting on the deck with a cool drink!

The right paintings can make almost any place look beautiful, right?

Our heroine is committed to getting some warm weather clothes, including some accessories for dressing up. Just a tiny bit dressy...

A heroine who managed to find new things from the summer 13! There's no requirement to do this, and given the current state of retail, it's not easy...

I'm pretty sure that next month, I'm going to show our heroines' wardrobes on two separate pages. Should I separate things by tops/bottoms, or two colors on each page? I'm tempted by the idea of colors, but I ... View the Post

June 2025 Start With a Bracelet – Art Nouveau Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

June 2025 Start With a Bracelet – Art Nouveau Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

June 30, 2025

The last day of June. I turned 65 yesterday. Time flies - don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

And before the month is gone, let's enjoy the possibilities of this VERY beautiful bracelet set:

I love these colors:

Let's start with a core of beige garments. Or ivory, depending on the retailer. I'm thinking about holding onto this core wardrobe for a few weeks, and looking at the possibilities for accent colors. Maybe starting with scarves?

Adding a couple of accent colors to your wardrobe doesn't have to be wildly extravagant and expensive. For one thing, you don't have to add BOTH colors. And you may already have a few things that will work with your accents, like gold shoes. (the brown accent in my ... View the Post
