There are no wardrobe rules. None. I might make suggestions, and offer guidelines, but you should make your own choices! It's your style...

I absolutely would mix patterns with these shorts - anything that looks as if it might be one of the prints in the patchwork is a reasonable choice:

If you've got cool earrings, let them be the statement part of your outfit. Simple, classic clothes are a perfect background for accessories:

Revisiting the Triple Top Secret

Watching lots of people wandering about with backpacks, this last weekend, I was wondering what everybody was carrying! I know, water bottles, spare phone batteries etc. but I wondered if they had any clothes with them...

And that got me to thinking about what you want to have handy if you're going to be out for a LONG day. Say you start out with breakfast and sight seeing early in the morning. You're going into areas that are air conditioned, and the weather might turn flat-out cool later in the evening. What to do?

Rescuing a Forgotten Garment: Print Sleeveless Tunic

Today's interesting warning - if you're wearing a mask frequently, be ABSOLUTELY sure that you're washing both the mask(s) and your face every 5 minutes or so. I currently have a really painful broken-out face from mask irritation. It's both ugly and sore...

But let's look at helping one of our friends get some good use from a beautiful garment, eh?

This isn't the exact tunic, of course, but it's sleeveless, and includes the colors royal blue, black and white, just like our friend's tunic. So I'm hopeful that any advice I can think of will be useful!

I'm still ready for warm weather, and the weather in Chicago is still not ready for me... But I can plan - when it finally gets warm, I'm going to be ALL SET!

As I try to do most weeks, here are some tops that will look good with wardrobes based on these scarves. When one is building a wardrobe around the colors in a scarf, it's difficult (but important) to remember that every single garment won't be worn WITH the scarf - especially in hot weather! So you needn't be worried about how you might arrange the scarf with these various necklines...

Well, a dear friend of mine is currently moving her plants indoors, because the weekend is supposed to bring freezing temperatures, and I'm writing about summer clothes! (I'm writing this on Friday afternoon May 8th)

Getting the best clothes often requires planning ahead; you can't imagine how often I will see something that I think is perfect to share with you, only to find that there are only 2 sizes still available...

So let's plunge into the possibilities of a simple, dark tank top or other sleeveless top!

Yesterday felt like summer; does that count?

Today feels like autumn... sigh...

But lets prepare for warm weather - we all know that it's going to get here eventually!

Every summer, I buy at least 1 or 2 of these, to take the place of the ones that I wore to PIECES the previous year; I keep these in my closet all year, because they are great under winter clothes too!

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 36: Textured, printed or patterned short-sleeved top

It's starting to feel (some days!) as if spring is on the way; I'm trying to have my wardrobe primed to go from the first hint of warmth...

A sweater with a bit of sparkle might be a fun little wardrobe update, eh?

As with last week, the only real goal here is to provide an additional "top" that gives you some variety. It's much harder to really find something with texture in warmer weather, but there are always interesting options like stripes, prints or maybe a touch of shine...

Even if it starts to become too warm to wear your silk scarf, you can always continue to build your wardrobe around the colors! (and don't discount the idea of tying your scarf to your handbag...)

The only real guideline is keep it a solid neutral with something interesting going on!

A simple ribbed sweater, with some festive earrings and a fun brooch, can be all you need for a nice outfit!

As much as I love a good sweater, nothing says winter to me like a flannel shirt!

But get a good one - as classic as possible. A well-made flannel shirt will last for years...

These shirts do NOT have to be plaid; finding a solid color that you love might take a while, but if it's what you want, it's worth the effort...

For the upcoming winter holidays, a shirt that includes a festive color might be all you need for those casual activities like cookie swaps, caroling, or walking about looking at decorations!

Speaking of patience, if you look long enough you can probably find a plaid flannel shirt in any color combination you can imagine. They're out there...

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 16: An Accent Cotton Turtleneck

Yes, if you live where it's cold, you might easily want a stack of these turtlenecks! If you don't anticipate that much cold weather in your life, or you just don't feel that you're going to need more than a couple of these tops, you can skip this garment entirely, or substitute tee shirts or button-front shirts...

As always, you make the rules; these are just guidelines, within which you plan YOUR wardrobe!

One other bit of advice when purchasing these turtlenecks: if you're POSITIVE that you'll absolutely never take off your top sweater in public, you can certainly buy the tissue-thin version of these. Wait! Don't just skip over this because you've never had luck in the past finding button-front shirts that fit properly. They DO exist... (and of course, these outfit ideas would work beautifully with light neutral blouses or tee shirts...)

Not all that long ago, I got a job working in a bakery. It wasn't exactly the job of my dreams, but I wanted to work there for a few months so that I could learn more about how everything was done. It was fascinating...
