Chic Sighting: Burlington Massachusetts Mall
Sigh... My trip wasn't really fruitful, in terms of Chic Sightings. Midway Airport in Chicago is NOT the place to look for fashion icons...
But I was in the Burlington Mall on Sunday, and saw a lovely young woman - long blond hair, no makeup, radiant smile, and this colorful ensemble. She looked comfortable and happy, and it didn't hurt that she was with a very attractive young man! ... View the Post

A chic sighting, and some thinking
This very lovely young lady works in the building where I live. While the jeans and sweater were very simple, the shoes demonstrated that she had put some thought into what she was wearing, and didn't just throw something together. At her age, and with her level of natural beauty, she could have been wearing a sack and looked striking. But with this level of style self-awareness, she's going to be just as elegant in 40 years as she is right now...
As the seasons finally seem to be moving toward warmer weather, I'm starting to go through that semi-annual wardrobe "switch out" that I find so distressing. Vivienne repeatedly points out that this is not something that men do, and that women don't need to own that much ... View the Post

A Chic Sighting, and a cautionary note on “payday shopping”
So I finally get a day off, and wandered about down in the "Loop" meeting a friend for lunch, stopping by to see belovedest, and just hiking about taking in the sights... The young lady represented in the above assembled outfit was a shining light of cheer on a gloomy day; I first noticed her radiant smile, but her well-curated outfit caught my eye too!
And another thing I saw: payday shopping. Back when I was in soft-goods retail, we always knew that the 15th of each month, and the last day of each month, would be very busy at lunch time, and after the end of the office work day. Why? Insert graphic of money burning a hole in someone's pocket.
There's nothing theoretically wrong with shopping the same day you ... View the Post
Chic sightings: LaGuardia International Airport
One common characteristic that all of these women shared: a sense of planning. They weren't over-burdened with a bunch of stray bags, they knew where their ID and boarding pass were, their hair was neat and clean, they wore modest but attractive makeup, they just didn't appear to be frazzled and out of control.
And some of the outfits that you might assume were worn by younger women were in fact being sported with great elan by women of a certain age. With confidence and flair...

Chic Sightings in the Chicago Loop: red coats
Maybe because it's been dark and gloomy, or maybe because Valentine's Day is barreling down upon us, but I've seen quite a few red coats in the last week, on women from 18 to 80. They certainly brighten up an otherwise severe city sidewalk! ... View the Post

Chic Sighting: at the corner of Clark and Diversey
November 10, 2011
For years, high-quality menswear has shown brown leather accessories with gray and navy clothing (check out Paul Stuart if you're not familiar with the idea). The woman I saw Saturday was working that look to perfection...
