Want to Shake Up Your Routine Start with a Scarf - the Stephen Bliss silk scarf from Echo

Want to Shake Up Your Routine? Start with a Scarf – the Stephen Bliss silk scarf from Echo

May 10, 2024

She knew it was time for a change; for years, she was known for her subtle wardrobe of shades of ivory and beige... She loved it, but she knew that it was time to brighten things up a bit.

She's been dressing like this for ages:

And then this caught her eye. She even felt that - when much younger - she had looked like the woman in the scarf.

After thinking about it for a few days, she finally took the plunge and ordered!

She looked at her scarf - very closely - for quite a while. After sleeping on it for a night, she isolate this color palette as a starting point for her wardrobe evolution:

Some patience, and a little bit of shopping, got her to these slight but meaningful changes in her ... View the Post

May 2024 “Six Paintings, Twelve Months” – Part 1

May 2024 “Six Paintings, Twelve Months” – Part 1

May 1, 2024

"It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May..."

Well, maybe that's a bit of an overstatement, unless you live in Camelot!

But we've got beautiful things to admire and consider, and we have each other - what else do we need? (yes, we could make a list...)

First up, this most lovely of paintings, which gave us a most unusual color palette:

This is her wardrobe at the end of April - I'm mostly struck by the small number of light blue items, and a little bit concerned that she still only has one 2nd layer in her only neutral...

So we went looking:

Seriously, could there be a better scarf?

Now, our heroine's wardrobe looks more "strongly beige" - a phrase which may never before have existed. ... View the Post

April 2024 Start with a Bracelet – Hopeful Lynx Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

April 19, 2024 Blue Skies, Smiling at Me... She's finally feeling a change in the weather, internally and outdoors!

And she's making a small but meaningful (to her) change in her wardrobe, to celebrate her newfound optimism. First, she treats herself to a beautiful set of bracelets:

For years, she's always dressed for summer in a simple mix of beige and white... This year, she's adding a dash of blue-green to match her eyes and the brighter lights in her heart.

She quite likes her core summer wardrobe - it's light, and so easy to wear. You literally can't put a foot wrong with these classic pieces:

But then she saw the blue/green carried at L.L.Bean, she new that it was time to add some pizzazz to her ... View the Post

Four Neutrals x Three Accent Colors - Which Ones Work

Four Neutrals x Three Accent Colors – Which Ones “Work”?

April 15, 2024

So once you've studied the Pantone Colors from London Fashion Week, (found here and here), you have to decide if you like the colors, if you would be flattered by wearing any of them, and how they might look with the neutral clothes you normally wear.

I can't answer the first two questions for you - obviously - but I can give you some visuals to help you picture how the accent colors might work with your existing wardrobe...

I've assembled four "core wardrobes" in white, black, beige and navy, in varying degrees of dressiness. The level of dressiness is going to be more important than I had realized - you'll see what I mean.

Here are the four Wardrobe Cores:

The black core is pretty casual:

The beige ... View the Post

Part 2 - Do You Need Accents? Or Neutrals? 6 Paintings, 12 Months April 2024

Part 2 – Do You Need Accents? Or Neutrals? 6 Paintings, 12 Months April 2024

April 5, 2024

The second half - I hope you like them as much as you did the first three wardrobes!

First is this subtle, somewhat muted painting...

At the end of March, our heroine didn't have much for olive in her wardrobe! This is excusable though, because she had had some good luck finding the camel that's so predominant in this painting. Sometimes, you add what you an find to your wardrobe, and wait for other things to become available...

So she shopped mostly for green:

Just these three new green garments bring a new balance to her wardrobe, with almost equal distribution among beige, green and black. If she ever runs into a lode of rust, she's going to go a wee bit nuts!

She's quite excited by the ... View the Post

March-2024-Six-Paintings-Twelve-Months-–-Part-2

March 2024 “Six Paintings, Twelve Months” – Part 2

March 4, 2024

First three paintings can be found here...

Let's visit our other 3 heroines, and their paintings! It's funny how much I love these paintings when I come back to them after almost a month...

At the end of February, our heroine had a cheerful and very practical 12-piece travel capsule wardrobe:

I fully expected to be adding white to this wardrobe at this point, but then I stumbled onto some lovely light grey, and decided it was wise to grab it! Gray in the summer can be really difficult to find, so avail yourself of it when it's around.

Her wardrobe now looks more like she wants to include a range of shades of grey - up until now, she's been pretty dedicated to charcoal... And the red is ... View the Post

March 2024 “Six Paintings, Twelve Months” – Part 1

March 2024 “Six Paintings, Twelve Months” – Part 1

March 1, 2024

Even with the extra day yesterday, I'm still not quite sure that I'm ready for March. But she will arrive regardless of my degree of preparation, right?

After a 50 degree overnight temperature drop, I'm not sure what season we're in, nor what to wear on any given day...

But let's look at art, and the wardrobes intrepid heroines assemble based upon their favorite colors and paintings!

So restful, calm and classic. I could walk for hours down this lane...

At the end of February, our heroine has this 12-piece capsule wardrobe:

As she's thinking about what to add, the burgeoning spring warmth suggests to her that maybe some green would be pretty!

Still a couple of sweaters - warmth doesn't ... View the Post

oliver charles winter cable knit

If You’re Only Going to Have One Sweater – Oliver Charles Winter Cable Knit

February 21, 2024

It's here, and I'm wearing it! My sweater from Oliver Charles - lovely, comfortable and beautifully well made... Here's a close-up view:

If you only want to own one sweater (okay, you may want a cardigan too!), this is a pretty good candidate - classic style, luxurious fiber content, neutral color... (this scarf is 100% yak, which is AMAZING...)

I'm going to be wearing my sweater for at least the next 7 days - probably longer, so on Instagram you'll be able to see what I'm wearing each day. But I have so many ideas about how this sweater can be worn...

I truly believe that you could get married wearing this sweater - pile on pearls and go for it!

Any neutral skirt, and a pretty brooch, and you're ... View the Post

Feeling Colorful Start with a Scarf - The JJ Martin Scarf by Echo

Feeling Colorful? Start with a Scarf – The JJ Martin Scarf by Echo

February 16, 2024

It's been a few days (well, weeks...) since we've had a new Echo 100 scarf - but the new ones are well worth the wait!

This scarf - endless, ENDLESS possibilities:

One could choose any colors from this to include in a palette - brown and red? beige and orchid? It took me a couple of minutes to settle into what I wanted...

My choice - this time! - was to select a variety of accent colors, one soft, one bright and warm, one bright and cool, as well as the three most obvious neutrals of brown, beige and white:

If our heroine is yet another among you who is travel in the Spring (and BOY are there a lot of you planning to run about in March and April!), I'm assuming that she will want to travel in dark ... View the Post

Two Wardrobe Neutrals with an Accent Start with Art - January by Elizabeth Magill

Two Wardrobe Neutrals with an Accent? Start with Art – January by Elizabeth Magill

February 12, 2024

I'm getting to be a big fan of Elizabeth Magill - her paintings are deep, and rich with color...

If only I'd found this one last month, eh? But it fits nicely with our theme of clusters in neutrals, accompanied by a sizeable dash of an accent!

This could be a lifetime wardrobe - everything from white to ivory to a soft grey, and a sizeable range of subtle blues. I even see some purple in there!

I'm going to start with the first ivory/cream wardrobe cluster that we saw - the one with the dressier pants, and the skirt. I see this heroine as having a wide range of activities planned, with the need to dress "nicely" from time to time...

Next, her second neutral - a little less dressy, but one could ... View the Post

Find Your Dream Accent Color for Spring Start with Art - Grey and White on Purple by Mark Rothko

Find Your Dream Accent Color for Spring? Start with Art – Grey and White on Purple by Mark Rothko

February 9, 2024

First things first - this is not really grey, and the background is DEFINITELY not purple... Does anybody know what's going on here? Are the reproductions that I'm finding completely corrupted, or was Rothko color blind? It's an interesting question...

She's always loved this painting - she wears a lot of navy, charcoal grey and white, but she has never found that background pretty pinkish coral in garments that appealed to her...

But then two things happened - first, she had lunch with her friend Lily, who shared with her the plans that she had made for her Spring wardrobe.

And then, she found a TON of this color at Lands' End... So she tried to channel her "inner Lily" and plan a similar, but slightly ... View the Post

Are You REALLY Committed to an Accent Color Start with Art - White Herons and Willow by Ohara Koson

Are You REALLY Committed to an Accent Color? Start with Art – White Herons and Willow by Ohara Koson

February 7, 2024

Her name is Lily...

And aptly enough, she's always really loved green, and beautiful paintings that feature lots of green.

So when it came time to really update her spring wardrobe, she had an inspiration:

Why NOT really invest in some green things, and wear them often? It's not an approach that suits everyone, but when she thinks of it (and factors in her soft, muted green eyes), it seems a good idea!

So she starts with a lovely neutral ivory. Or ecru. Or bone. Of off-white. She has to be flexible when looking for these colors...

Oh what fun!

She quickly realizes that it might be too early in the season to find a lot of bright, leafy green... but then she stumbles onto the absolute ... View the Post
