CAN ACCESSORIES TIE TOGETHER A WARDROBE START WITH ART – COURTESANS STROLLING BENEATH CHERRY TREES BY UTAMARO

Can Accessories Tie Together a Wardrobe? Start with Art – Courtesans Strolling Beneath Cherry Trees by Utamaro

May 7, 2021

Ah, it looks relaxed and pretty, if being a courtesan is your thing!

You may remember the 16-piece Four by Four wardrobe that we assembled, based on the colors in this painting:

The big question from many of you was that I hadn't really mixed the rose with the neutrals in the outfits that I showed last week. I think that those "mixed" outfits felt naked to me without something to blend the rose accent with the neutrals. So that's what I've looked at first!

For example, these sandals that seem to be silver, with a gold buckle, and splotches of color on them, are perfect with this simple tee shirt and shorts:

And these next sandals have rose and black in the striped part! And yes, this is a pretty dressy ... View the Post

WEEKLY TIMELESS WARDROBE #8 – SHORT-SLEEVED LIGHT NEUTRAL SHIRT

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe #8 – short-sleeved light neutral shirt

May 3, 2021

It's starting to feel like summer clothes might actually be useful this year!

What we're looking for this week is the "go-to" shirt for warm weather, to be worn either as a shirt on its own, or as a shirt-jacket over a more bare top:

Pink as a neutral is fun, because it looks like an accent color so often!

yes, this is the same black cardigan and pants that we saw last week; being able to wear clothes in lots of different combinations is sort of the point...

If you're wearing a top that's sleeveless and maybe scoop-necked, or open in the back, having a shirt to wear over is good sun protection, air-conditioning protection, and modesty protection!

Maybe your light neutral is warm rather than ... View the Post

START WITH ART COURTESANS STROLLING BENEATH CHERRY TREES BY KITAWAGA UTAMARO

Start with Art: Courtesans Strolling Beneath Cherry Trees by Kitawaga Utamaro

April 30, 2021

This post is for those among us who are deeply smitten with a particular color for their spring and summer wardrobe; I think that one can wear quite a bit of their favorite color without sacrificing a coherent wardrobe!

OH, she's got cherry trees...

She's got all KINDS of trees under which she plans to sit; she has a STACK of books that need to be read this summer!

And she has her eye on a particular color that she wants to wear this summer; when she saw this painting she began to formulate her plan:

She eschews the almost green shade of beige, and she chooses to believe that the darkest kimonos are black (while it's possible that they're navy...)

This is what she's starting with:

And this is her ... View the Post

START WITH A SCARF_ TIGER IN THE GRASS BY ECHO

Start with a Scarf: Revisiting Tiger in the Grass by Echo

March 26, 2021

She's going back for another long weekend, after she set everybody straight back in December...

This is still her favorite scarf - she's not so fickle that she would find a new favorite in just a few months!

But she's changing her color scheme to something softer and more approachable; after her last visit, she doesn't need to be as assertive as before!

For the first meetings when she arrives, she's going to be positively quiet, and let everyone else air their opinions, grievances, and silly ideas:

The balance of the long weekend is going to be casual - informal conversations and projects, so she packs an assortment of relaxed clothes that all still echo the colors of her scarf, albeit in a lighter ... View the Post

START WITH ART_ ABSTRACTS BY TONY DALEY

Start with Art: Abstracts by Tony Daley

February 26, 2021 The Sun is Out!

It's not going to be insanely warm at the gardens, but warm enough that she can take a couple of days to check on the bee hives...

So she decides that she's going to wear pretty pretty pretty colors, and pretend to be one of the flowers...

She dresses somewhat warmly for the trip...

She's not sure how long she's going to stay, nor how warm it will be, so she plans to pack an assortment of possibilities...

To start, she makes certain that she has her beige cardigan, shorts, and cropped pants. Her tan skirt is almost the same color, so she adds that...

Then a couple of tee shirts, a cardigan and her favorite floral top...

When she gets to the ... View the Post

PERFECT 10 PACKING? START WITH ART: UNTITLED (ACRYLIC #1) BY ED CLARK

Perfect 10 Packing? Start with Art: Untitled (Acrylic #1) by Ed Clark

January 29, 2021

I've been thinking a lot about 10 garments in a Travel Capsule Wardrobe, like in the ones that I'm positing for the heroines who are managing wardrobes in 2 homes...

And I thought that maybe it was worth revisiting the Perfect 10 template that is one of my personal favorites!

Calm is still in short supply, so let's look at more calming art, eh?

Such lovely colors, and such a relaxed and stable feeling to this...

So let's imagine a heroine who has to make a 3 or 4 day trip - fairly often - but never with any sort of advanced notice. A morning phone call could mean "out the door and on the road" by lunch-time...

Thus, she keeps some things ready for this adventure, starting with a travel outfit ... View the Post

START WITH ART: HONOR BY ELIZAVETA EGIAZARYAN

Start with Art: Honor by Elizaveta Egiazaryan

December 28, 2020

She's quite smitten with this painting:

So when they decided, at their family meeting, that they MUST turn down the thermostat and try to cut back their energy consumption, she wondered if the warmth of her flower painting could be translated into real warmth...

Her normal wardrobe is very strictly black and white, and has been that way for quite a while. She really doesn't need a lot of clothing these days, so she's been managing pretty well with just this:

She went back to her current favorite painting, and studied it carefully. Black and white are certainly here, but what makes the painting feel warm to her is the more cream and beige tones. And the luscious pink helps too!

So she created a color ... View the Post

START WITH A RUANA_ ECHO SMOKED LILAC TWEED RUANA

Start with a Ruana: Echo Smoked Lilac Tweed Ruana

December 23, 2020

She loved the whole idea of a ruana, and when she saw this one, she was smitten:

She magnified the image as much as she could, and finally decided that these might be the colors that she would wear with it... if she decides to buy it!

But before she buys anything, she's going to sit down for a few minutes (maybe with a piece of paper and her favorite pen) and think about how she might wear this beauty...

Obvious 1st choice might be black pants and a pink sweater, but her pants will be her favorite velvet jeans, and the sweater will have some lovely textures. And fun socks - of course!

Now she stands for a good, long minute in front of her closet, thinking about the beige possibilities...

CAN A GARDE-ROBE DU MOIS INCLUDE RED AND PINK? START WITH ART: RED HILLS, LAKE GEORGE BY GEORGIA O’KEEFFE

Can A Garde-Robe du Mois Include Red AND Pink? Start with Art: Red Hills, Lake George by Georgia O’Keeffe

November 4, 2020

She wants to be able to dress with a soothing softness. She ALSO wants to dress with invigorating brightness. And she wants to do this within the structure of a 21-piece Garde-Robe du Mois...

What a heroine to do?

Start with art, I suggest...

She looked at how beautiful these colors are together, and took heart!

Here accent color palette looks like this:

First, since she's not going outdoors much at all, she's going to wear ALL of her light-colored neutrals - no slush to splash on her pant legs if she's always at her desk at home!

When she starts to add things to her Common Wardrobe, she first of all craves a bit of pattern, and maybe 1 last pair of pants:

Then she turns with a warm ... View the Post

START WITH ART – REVISITING POEM BY BUNYA NO ASAYASU BY HOKUSAI

Start with Art – Revisiting Poem by Bunya no Asayasu by Hokusai

October 8, 2020 It Was the Kids' Idea... Remember this heroine, and her gang of friends that were going to the lake house?

The children asked for a "Meeting of the Commune" after dinner. Nobody quite knew when they became a commune, but if it entertains the kids, right?

The bottom line? Let's stay here until at least the end of 2020.

The adults can all take turns going into town for essentials, and to mail their ballots; The internet service is more than adequate for all of the kids to do their school work here; Everybody will be able to spend a LOT of time outdoors, which they can't do in town; The kids have volunteered to help cover the windows in their rooms with the clear plastic stuff that helps keep cold ... REVISITING EIFFEL TOWER BY ROBERT DELAUNAY

Revisiting Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

October 5, 2020

The last time she went to Paris, it all turned out to be... very interesting!

At the end of the 2nd day she was there, she walked up to the woman who had been following her, and asked WHAT was going on?

Well... the woman was looking for another photographer to join the group of official government staff who were documenting all of the most obscure and hidden sculptures and monuments in Paris, and wanted to know if she wanted to be considered...

Uhhh... okay!

She still doesn't know what her new boss saw in her and her photography techniques, that caused her to want to hire her. She frankly doesn't care!

So now, ever other weekend, she takes the train to Paris. She's able to sleep on the train, so she ... View the Post

How to build a travel capsule wardrobe starting with a Sardonyx bracelet

How to Build a Travel Capsule Wardrobe by Starting with a Bracelet – August 2020

August 21, 2020 Ultimate Job Security...

She's a little bit steamed right now; she doesn't want to travel, but that ONE office that always has issues with their computer network... is having... you guessed it.... ISSUES WITH THEIR COMPUTER NETWORK.

She tried to talk them through the fix. She drew pictures. She wrote checklists. She photographed the computers in THEIR office and put little notes on the photograph to show them what to do.

Not happening.

So she's headed there... against her best judgment and preferences. And she's seeing red...

(okay, maybe it's orange!)

She loves her new bracelet - the knot charm reminds her of the linking and integration that she loves so much in computer networking. So she's using ... View the Post
