May 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #6 – Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

May 5, 2025

Finally, we get to the final painting in our series of six! I particularly love this painting, and this wardrobe. Three neutrals with one accent color is an unusual balance, but it’s classic, and uncomplicated.

This heroine’s wardrobe is pretty classic, but she has some really wonderful accessories that make a LOT of difference. Here again is a wardrobe that would see you through a world-wide travel extravaganza:

Our heroine was thinking, as she started her shopping, that she could use something kind of dressy – not strapless sequins, but something that would work for meetings, and that included a skirt that might be handy for outdoor weddings or garden parties…

Necklace – Farra; earrings – Smilla Brav; linen blazer – Eileen Fisher; ecru tee – Mango; brown tee – GAP Factory; skirt – Eileen Fisher; amber gold sandals – Sam Edelman

Her 24-piece wardrobe, with the addition of her new pieces, looks very much like it did before, only larger and more complete. To me, this feels like real shopping success – you’re still you, but you find it easier to get dressed!

And her accessories are gorgeous! I’ve got to help her find another scarf… and maybe a lighter handbag for warm weather?

Her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe is progressing better than probably any other heroine in this series. Of course, this has NOT been a focus for any of the wardrobe additions, so success here is more accidental than deliberate:

How will our heroine wear her new clothes? Lots of pretty and interesting ways!

I know – all of these wardrobes could tempt me! But this one really appeals; maybe it’s the predominance of neutrals? Or the accent color that would look really good on me? hmm…

love,

Janice

p.s. Ten years ago, the green handbag person decided to ALSO buy a green Hermes scarf!

    This is my closet.
After photographing my outfits every day for half a year, I mostly wear blue and brown. I have jackets and coats in those colors.
Maybe this heroine will find a blue skirt and some shoes.
I’m so excited to see how this capsule is growing.
    Have a great week, everyone.

This is the kind of smart/casual wardrobe that I would like. I have an ivory linen jacket which is a go-to second layer in summer. It adds that bit of dressiness to an outfit that a cardigan or jumper doesn’t. I would like to see a patterned top, blouse or shirt that brings her colours together. I still feel that the green dress is “wrong”. I envisage this heroine wearing a shirtwaister style dress. I’d add a few pieces of jade green or sea glass jewellery. A lighter bag and lighter shoes would be good additions.

    I love this!

The older I get, the more I’m really digging brown as a base color. I don’t have a lot of it, but what I do have I truly love. For most of my life, I have been drawn to preppy brights—think Lilly Pulitzer, but on a year ’round basis. As I look ahead to starting my next decade in December, I’m far more drawn to browns, chestnuts and camels. While I don’t think my love of pink will ever vanish, I can see replacing worn out pieces with similar ones in toned down, earthy shades. The changes will not be overnight…but as I contemplate purchases to come.

Who knew? I was sure I was going to be one of those older ladies wearing a pink and green dress at my own funeral.

You still could. I think pink and brown look great together!

Oh, I plan to! I just have a lot of pink pants, pink sweaters, pink skirts…you get the picture. I will blend in new pieces as I need to. I have a rule…before I buy a new item, one item needs to be donated to my church thrift shop. I’m just thinking that, as pieces wear out, I’ll move into this direction over time.

Such a pretty wardrobe! I’m picturing a pale rattan handbag with chocolate leather accents for summer…

Ooooh, yes! I second that. That would look dreamy with this wardrobe.

While I’m still liking all the wardrobes this year, this one might be my least favorite. I do absolutely love the green. And the scarves. That being said, for me personally there’s not enough color. And that’s purely a personal thing. I have experimented with an all neutral (or mostly neutral) closet and it’s just not me. I couldn’t do it! Must have my crayon box wardrobe (or as my husband would say, my clown closet) Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Even with all the cream pieces, this one feels heavy to me, making it a little dreary. A few more pops of the accent color would appeal to me: a pretty handbag in teal or a brighter scarf, or something in a soft print for summer. I’m waiting to see how this progresses :)

I’m thinking that once the prints and patterns start filling in it will start to pop a little more. I’m finding this to be a very soothing wardrobe though. And I really would consider combining it with the lighter version we have going as well for a truly versatile set of clothes.

Pepper I agree. Either the Okeeffe or maybe the Lun.

Cross your fingers that I can FIND printed garments that fit into these wardrobes! That’s always the hardest part…

On paper I love the way this wardrobe looks. Even the styles, and I do like the dress, but I’d need to trade short sleeve t’s for the turtlenecks and perhaps for the long sleeved t’s too. Outside of that if it were all hanging in my closet everything would be worn except the brown. Which I most likely would never choose. Kind of like the lone brown skirt that I have which gets worn about once per year. I’m the opposite of Ellen s in that way. But I do really like the brown leather pieces; I’ve always liked brown leather with navy. I do like the blazer today. I’ve been considering adding a blazer to see if that will elevate my look.
The necklace!!! 😍. I could put that right to use with my navy and white things. It’s like a leopard print in a necklace!

I’m really liking the style of this wardrobe. The colors are not for me, but the actual pieces would fit my sensibility and my life very well. I think I’m going to use it as a template to find similar pieces in my colors (e.g., the brown and teal could become burgundy and pink, and the ecru would need to be white with my coloring).

Thank you for all the thought and care you put into these wardrobes. I find I always learn something about myself and my own wardrobe from them.

And I hope your travels have been wonderful!

I love this set! With a couple tweaks on sleeve length I could happily wear this collection of clothes. Going through these exercises helps me to think more clearly about what I’m buying for myself. How to slim down my color palette a bit. This summer I am turning 50 and in the past I have loved bright pinks and turquoise with my navy but in the last year that has been shifting to a more soothing palette of deeper teals, greens and burgundy/plum colors. Not sure if it’s my age (or my graying hair) or just my likes changing but it has been interesting. I’ve looked at my summer clothes and the brights are just not appealing any more. Hmmmmm

I’m really liking where this group is going. Especially now that Janice has added lighter pieces for warm weather. That painting has some interesting hints of other colors in the background that could be brought in, if one wanted to expand the palette. As usual, the accessories are great!

I agree with some other commenters that for my personal preferences/coloring, this wardrobe is a bit dark, neutral, and dreary…but even though I wouldn’t personally wear a cream linen suit (talk about a bland look on me), I love it styled with the brown T and bronze sneakers! That’s a very on point outfit formula that we could all play with using our own preferred color palette. Done in all neutrals as it was here, it is subtle, but we could certainly make it bolder by using a different set of colors.

Another beautiful, practical wardrobe. Love the addition of the linen pieces. As I age, I find myself going to lighter neutrals. I used to wear a lot of brown, I would have been all over this one years ago but now I find myself drawn to tans and camels. I look for lighter navies as well; funny how we change over time. Have a lovely week everyone.
