Want a Simple Spring Wardrobe Start With Art - The Seasons - Summer by Ray

Want a Simple Spring Wardrobe? Start With Art – The Seasons – Summer by Ray Hendershot

April 27, 2026

She wants peace. Calm. Not having to think about what to pack or what to wear. She wants the wardrobe equivalent of this:

She particularly wants green, mixed with that "old paint, peeling off of the barn" shade of beige...

It wasn't a settled choice until she saw this color - called faded sage. THIS was just what she wanted:

The beige was easy - she just saw it on Friday here on The Vivienne Files! She changed the jewelry to better suit her...

The night before her first weekend away, she assembled her tiny spring wardrobe, and was tremendously satisfied. It would be difficult to put together a truly ugly outfit from this:

She really didn't WANT to think about outfits, but she took a solid ... View the Post

Do You Have a Signature Accent Color Start With Art - Rhythm of Bird Flight by Erika Giovanna Klien

Do You Have a Signature Accent Color? Start With Art – Rhythm of Bird Flight by Erika Giovanna Klien

April 24, 2026

Some of us do have signature accent colors - you're not surprised to know that mine is purple. It's not that I wear purple clothes all that often, but I have purple highlights in my hair. That pretty much wraps up the whole signature color for me! But I do wear purple clothes occasionally, and I just ordered a purple backpack!

Today's heroine doesn't have a "lifetime signature" but she is planning to stick with shades of coral for the upcoming warm weather. Her inspiration is this:

Our heroine plans to use this as her color palette:

Her goals are two. First, she wants to establish a 9-piece wardrobe in these two colors, which would mean that any weekend she's going away, she will pack 6 or 7 garments ... View the Post

Feeling Bright Start With Art - No. 7 or No. 11, 1949 by Mark Rothko

Feeling Bright? Start With Art – No. 7 or No. 11, 1949 by Mark Rothko

April 22, 2026

If Rothko couldn't choose a name for his painting (or technically a number...), then you don't have to pack with just one accent color.

I'm sure Rothko never, once, worried about what he packed. But we aren't modern art geniuses, so we think about these things!

Let's start here - this feels SO MUCH like warm weather to me:

As soon as she saw this painting, she saw this color palette...

Our heroine is committed to denim, and chambray. For many of us, that's a sensible choice. It's readily available, in every style imaginable, and if you care for it properly, denim is a true "buy it for life" fabric.

I have jeans that are going to be with me until the end...

So when our heroine has to go away for a ... View the Post

Inspiration is Everywhere! Navy, White, Rose Pink and Deep Lake Blue

Inspiration is Everywhere! Navy, White, Rose Pink and Deep Lake Blue

April 17, 2026

Our heroine was off to a good start - she was certain that navy is her favorite neutral, and she was equally convinced that white would be her light neutral. That's a LOT more progress than many of us ever make in gaining control of our wardrobe!

She started here - her favorite outfit(s):

So she started building her Spring wardrobe by digging into her closet and dresser, and found all of these things:

At this point, she realizes that her choice of navy and white is really solidly based on her preferences... But what about accent colors?

She looks at art.

She looks at nature.

She looks at brilliant wardrobe blogs...

And THEN, she sits down to watch some European rugby with her best friend, and ... View the Post

Pack for a Long Weekend? Start With Art – Hydrangea by C.F.A.Voysey

April 15, 2026

They're going to finally open their archives to the public! She's been waiting for YEARS for this...

She designs fabrics. And sometimes wallpaper, or other decorative things. And floral is her thing!

She's going to visit the archive for a couple of days. She knows that she won't see a fraction of what she wants to study; she's really making this trip to decide if she wants to come back for a lengthy (six weeks?) visit in the summer...

Her current wardrobe inspiration is this:

And her color palette is this:

It's not a long trip by train...

It might be really warm there. It might not. But she's been promised that there is NO mucking through dusty cabinets and files - everything has been ... View the Post

Ready for Spring? Start With Art - Costal Image by Theo van Rysselberghe

Ready for Spring? Start With Art – Costal Image by Theo van Rysselberghe

March 20, 2026

I had hoped to see this painting at The National Gallery in London, but I understand that it's not currently on display. I'm sure I'll find something else that appeals...

With warmer weather approaching (although we had HAIL last night...) I thought that this felt just right:

Yes, we started with this heroine six years ago, at the beginning of pandemic work from home... I did NOT look back at her original wardrobe when I started this; it's interesting that yet again, I chose to work with wardrobe clusters!

Our heroine is still working from home most of the time. They're expected to be in their office four days a month - generally everybody shows up on Thursday because they bring lunch in for everyone. If you ... View the Post

The Simplest Packing I Can Devise! England March 2026

The Simplest Packing I Can Devise! England March 2026

March 16, 2026

Cross your fingers that I'm in London while you're reading this! We're flying into London, hanging around for a couple of days, then driving around Suffolk for a few days, then returning to London for a last night, and coming home. It's going to be pretty whirlwind - four hotels in 8 days. So I'm not going to be seeing people over and over again, not that this really matters!

One of the towns we're visiting:

Changing subjects: what was your closest friend wearing the last time you saw them? Do you remember? What will you think if they're wearing the same thing the next time you see them?

See? Repeating outfits isn't going to make you a pariah. If you know people for whom this is a "thing," don't cater to their ... View the Post

Ready to Start Thinking Spring? Start With Art – Book Illustration by Goyo Hashiguchi

February 16, 2026

It's not quite spring here, although I hear from some of you that flowers are starting to show?!?!?

But it IS the second half of February, which, for the forward-thinking and wise heroine, means starting to look for clothes for warmer weather. The best things sell quickly, especially if you wear a common size...

Our heroine was here last summer...

First, and always most important, let's pause for just a second and appreciate this:

Our heroine has chosen these colors for her wardrobe; it might seem limited, but there's a lot of possibilities if one is patient and focused. We all might want to focus and develop a more signature, personally authentic style...

We're going to start our heroine's Spring ... View the Post

Green Always Feels Fresh: Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

Green Always Feels Fresh: Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

January 30, 2026

One last visit with our traveling heroine, and the print that she uses to inspire her wardrobe:

Her color palette focused on the pastel colors in the sky, although she could easily include both black, white (stars!) and a soft grey in this palette:

They're not at all sure that the Northern Lights are still a possibility, but they do know that there are flowers starting to sprout, and leaves just beginning to show... (use your imaginations, all of us still in single-degree cold!)

So her accent color is green, and her theme is leaves!

As a reminder, this is the travel capsule wardrobe template that she's using to choose her six garments for each trip:

She knows full well that spring can ... View the Post

The Impact of a New Accent Color Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

The Impact of a New Accent Color: Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

January 28, 2026

Monday's very pink wardrobe was a success - except there was cloud cover the ENTIRE weekend she was with her friend.

So they're going to try again...

Remember, this is the illustration upon which we're basing all of this week's travel capsule wardrobes:

Our heroine has a denim-focused wardrobe, with three pastel accent colors:

They're trying to encourage clearer skies, so our heroine is focusing on yellow, and sunny earrings!

As a reminder, this is the Six-Pack Plan that she's going to try to select for her second weekend with her new friend:

She's not trying to convince her friend that she has an endlessly large wardrobe, so she packs a lot of the same clothing as before. People who ... View the Post

Thinking About Six-Packs: Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

Thinking About Six-Packs: Start With Art – In Northern Mists by Erik Werenskiold

January 26, 2026

Just a quick idea - if you want to save both electricity and water (not necessarily for you personally, but for the world), when you're searching for something on the Internet, type -ai at the end of your search. Voila, NO Artificial Intelligence responses!

I've been thinking a lot about the logic of what actually goes into a Six-Pack travel capsule wardrobe. So I'm going to start with this most excellent illustration, and conjure up three travel capsule wardrobes this week...

Honestly, could this be more timely? So many people in the Northern Hemisphere have been able to see the Northern Lights for the first time in their lives. Bless the overactive solar storms, eh?

To me, this print just looked like ... View the Post

I’m Using a 28-piece Wardrobe Template to Refine My Wardrobe…

January 16, 2026

My wardrobe feels pretty stable, but I'm always looking for things in it that I'm no longer wearing on a regular basis. We don't have mountains of room (although compared to my sisters in Europe, I'm wallowing in space!), and I don't like to keep things that might be of use to someone else...

So I initially thought I would use a 30-piece, six cluster template to organize myself:

But then I made a critical aesthetic adjustment to the 28-piece, seven cluster template (yes, they do indeed get confusing!):

Having the bottoms longer than the tops just makes good sense, doesn't it?

I'm hopeful that you can "right click" on these and copy them, or print them. They're useful if you're just writing on them, or ... View the Post
