The 33 when someone’s ill

This flu season means that any of us could be called upon to dash off to a friend's or family member's for a day or two, to pick up prescriptions, do a load or two of laundry, and make a cup of tea.So your laundry IS quite up to date, your toiletries are packed and ready to go, including a few days worth of your prescriptions?  Don't forget something to read, the charger for your telephone, and some cash and small bills (just in case you have to hang around the hospital and eat out of the vending machines).

And you HAVE had a flu shot?  it's not too late...

Building a Capsule Wardrobe by Starting with a Scarf: Hermes Reve de Corail

I get LOTS of questions about what to wear with scarves - many people seem to feel that they're not wearing their scarves as often as they should.  So I'm going to walk you through what I think of, when I see a scarf for which someone wants suggestions.First, the obvious way to wear a scarf - match the colors!  Wearing a scarf with two differently colored garments can make it clear that this ensemble wasn't an accident.

Scarf – Hermès Reve des Corail, sweater – French Connection, white jeans – Acne, suede loafers – Tod’s, white shirt – Frank & Eileen, red velvet jeans – J. Crew, shoes – Converse Chuck Taylor     Next, it's always easy to wear almost any scarf with black!  The addition of another ... View the Post

33 = 208 (at least in my world!) with Capsule Wardrobe Project 333

You don't need to make teeny pictures in order to create a Project 333 capsule wardrobe for yourself; a list will do just fine...   It would, of course, be possible to print these images and then "check them off" as each ensemble was worn.  But the point, ultimately, is NOT to have an infinite number of different outfits, but rather to have just enough choices to be able to quit shopping and move on to more rewarding activities!   And of course, 208 is NOT exhaustive... but it would get me well into July, so I just plain quit finding new combinations.  I think after 6 months, I will be ready to ditch cashmere, tweed and ... Preference meets practical: my 33 to start 2013

December 6, 2012   I set up my collapsible clothing rack (this very portable baby), and started pulling garments out of the closet, and onto the rack, in order to isolate the 33 that are going to be my wardrobe for the first three months of 2013.My priorities: 1. My favorite stuff must be here! 2. It could get cold... (I say this after being able to sleep with the window open most of this week) 3. I've got to look appropriate for work, probably a serious meeting or two, and my leisure time. Here we go!

Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: 2 weeks, with accessories

Yes, there are eight outfits in each week - I just can't find a nice way to show seven outfits on a page!

Now if you dressed like this for two weeks, and someone remarked that you were wearing the same clothes repeatedly, you should just laugh at them, and suggest they get a hobby.

For reference purposes, these are the Project 333 garments:

Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: from the sublime to the ridiculous

After we got back from Paris, belovedest and I agreed that we could have packed less - we had more options than we strictly needed, and we wouldn't have minded having even SMALLER bags...And that made me start pondering the number of options inherent in any "Project 333" that includes 33 pieces of clothing - theoretically more than 1,000.

So, I started illustrating them all....  and my brain ground to a halt at 160 outfits.  This would easily get me through 5 months, and I haven't even begun to address the possibilities of my dresses.  Wow.  I really do NOT need a lot of clothes - I re-learn this fact every day.

Note: although you can't really tell here, the 3 pair of black pants are VERY different from each other ... View the Post

Parisiennes: White Jeans in October

Women of all ages were still wearing white jeans, without seeming to even consider that they might be "out of season".  Except for avoiding slush and puddles, why NOT wear white jeans all year 'round?  The ban on white is sort of archaic, isn't it?

Jeans – J Brand, plaid shirt – Patagonia, loafers – Vaneli, sweater – Sheinside, pink loafers - Valentino

Jeans – J Brand, sweater – Elizabeth and James, oxfords – Mel, flowered sweater – Dolce & Gabbana, kitten-heel pumps – Stuart Weitzman

Jeans – J Brand, blouse – Equipment, white leather jacket – Blk Dnm, purple flats – Puma, chambray shirt – Madewell, cardigan – Zadig & Voltaire, pink flats - Modcloth

Jeans – J ... View the Post

Imaginary Shopping for a Capsule Wardrobe “must-have” color: Winter White

There will be blog posts six days a week while I'm in Paris - everything's all scheduled and ready to go!  (no, I am NOT going to be writing while I'm on vacation...)  You will know everything about my packing approach by the time I'm back in Chicago - at which time I will tell you every detail of our trip... ... Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: beyond the autumnal equinox

Project 333 has been a wonderful success chez moi, and I'm going to continue, with a seasonal "switch out" of clothes to accommodate cold weather.  I'm still loving the summer assortment, well past the end of August and the theoretical end of the first "3", so the change over will probably take place on the first day of fall. This is what I'm planning - bear in mind that I need to pack for eight days in Paris from this assortment...

I plan to pursue A Common Wardrobe - probably on Saturdays, for at least a few more weeks.  The potential within that framework is nearly endless...

A Common Capsule Wardrobe, with black & white

She's an art director.  Well, she's a color savant - she can identify a Pantone shade at 20 paces... and when she gets dressed, she doesn't want to even THINK about colors!

Striped scarf – Soaked in Luxury, watch & jewelry – Georg Jensen, tote – Jil Sander,

checked scarf – Sonia Rykiel, high-tops – Converse, pom pom scarf – Diane von Furstenberg,

string knot belt – SPACE, boots – Acne

The series is going to wind down at the end of the week, as I move on the start planning for my trip to Paris (2 weeks from today!).  But the Common Wardrobe will reappear maybe once a week for a while, until I feel I've exhausted my creativity in this framework. ... View the Post
