Capsule wardrobes inspired by art and nature
January 15, 2014 I'd never heard of this artist until just a few days ago, but I'm so delighted to have been introduced to his work. This painting made me look for warm textury shades of russet and rust, as well as wavy misty greeny/bluey tan clouds in the sky. Basically I made up some words, but the potential within this painting is amazing.
I love the range of possibilities offered when you look at these outfits as separates, combined into a wardrobe...

I don't see a lot of bracelets in the world, and I think that's too bad. Bracelets elevate any outfit to something much dressier, and they're particularly effective at the dinner table. Make sure that you're choose bracelets that aren't too bangy or clinky or clanky - you want to be beautiful, but not to the point of distraction!For all of these outfits, I've shown a very simple 3/4 sleeve ("bracelet" sleeve) top, in a color matching the pants, and for day I've topped them with a cardigan that makes sort of a statement, and some simple loafers. When combing through your wardrobe for something to use as the "key" piece in a day-to-night transition, remember that most of the focus will be on your face, especially if you're sitting at a dinner table. Look for the key ideas of shine, sparkle, shimmer, any kind of texture-y interest, and don't forget that sleeveless often conveys a sense of occasion...Velvet pants are among my favorite garments - I wear them all fall and winter, for regular days as well as festive moments. October 29, 2013 Here are a couple of examples of how my Triple Top Secret selection of tops can work for a really casual trip (or just a day to day wardrobe). First, I started with a cool flowered shirt, got really gutsy and tossed in a striped tee shirt, and worked from there. Yes, I would wear the stripes and the flowers together...
I realized after working with this idea for a while that there are, in fact, two "triples" inherent in this idea:
Yes, the button-front shirt is critical! A shirt that can both be worn as a jacket or 2nd layer, but also layered under a sweater or sweatshirt, is key.

August 10, 2013 A few simple accessories will help you get into the autumn mood... While the tote bag I show is technically supposed to be a beach bag, it's so incredibly well designed that I wanted you to see it! It could easily be used through most of the year - where did we get the idea that we could only use certain materials at certain times of the year? If you're not a scarf person, you might want another necklace or two; if jewelry isn't your thing, then you can go nuts with scarves... To each her own very personal and beautiful preferences!
