Our second heroine also has a black base to her wardrobe, along with denim blue and bone (thanks to whomever pointed out that I'd complete SKIPPED the beautiful bluish grey...):

Our heroine is a graphic artist; her specialty is working with designs that incorporate multiple typefaces. She's the absolute master (mistress?) of mixing serif and sans-serif fonts! And it's not as easy as one might think; persuading clients that she's right about things can be difficult. Therefore, she tends to dress in a pretty timeless and neutral fashion, so that clients will concentrate on what she shows to them, and not on her.

Happy Happy Happy New Year to all of us! We deserve it, I'd say!

Let's wallow in the beauty of our first painting, and get to know our first heroine:

This heroine worked on the restoration of Notre Dame, in Paris. She specializes in the symbolism of the small decorative carvings found at the tops of pillars, in the wee niches in arches - all sorts of places in Gothic architecture were ornamented, because it was considered a form of worship. 

And while she was well-known in her specialty area, working on such a high-profile project made her "small famous." Enough so that she travels a lot now, giving lectures at colleges and universities EVERYWHERE.

Let’s Evaluate the Last 4 2025 Wardrobes

This seems a fitting way to finish up our year here together, doesn't it?

I love this painting; I always fear that I'm going to be absolutely sick of the six paintings by the end of the year, but it's never happened. Yet. Good art has legs...

One thing I noticed as I was sorting out the contents of these four wardrobes: If you start with a plan, and proceed in a pretty orderly manner (like we did this year, when we added four garments and three accessories each month, and each group of 4 garments included a "bottom"), you're probably going to end up with a great wardrobe.

Happy St. Stephen's Day!

Let's take a look at two of the wardrobes that we worked on this year, to see what we might learn, or what might be added to the wardrobes to make them work better for our heroines.

Bear in mind that THE ONLY REASON to buy clothes is because you need them, and because you're going to wear them a lot. Desire isn't sufficient. Admiration certainly isn't sufficient. Let's get ourselves reacquainted with the true meaning of need.

Merry Christmas Eve! Six Paintings for 2026!!!

Happy Christmas Eve! Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, if you're alive today, you can have a happy day, right? Every holiday doesn't have to be your own PERSONAL holiday - we can be happy and full of delight for others... That's one of my goals for 2026.

Okay, I've made the decisions. I hate to do this, because I know that almost everybody but me is going to be disappointed that their favorite didn't make the cut. Feel free to leave a comment asking me to take another look at your favorite work of art. Just because something wasn't included in this series doesn't mean that we can't revisit a work. Or two. Or three!

It’s Almost 2026, and I Have Choices to Make!

If all goes as planned, when you read this, I will be in Paris. Probably in the airport, which is no great bargain...

But let's think about art! I'm kind of thinking that 2026 will be the last year of The Vivienne Files, unless we're still in Chicago, and I still have the time and energy to continue. But let's work with that assumption.

After looking at more art than you can stuff in a 30 gallon garbage bag, I've decided that for next year, I want to revisit artworks that we've seen here in the past. When I do small travel wardrobes - even if we visit the same heroine repeatedly - we never see their complete wardrobe.

The last day of the last painting! Unless, of course, I revisit these and analyze them a bit...

She had enough clothes - more than enough, as do we all. But she was really hankering after some more brown. There's something about wearing brown - especially with black - that's different from anything else she had ever worn...

Her wardrobe is all set, for now...

Our heroine would still really love to have a brown and black scarf, and you can easily see how useful it would be for her. But she has to find the right one!

Okay, if I wanted to start a new and different wardrobe, THIS would be my choice... Until I get to the next wardrobe!

But this is such a great painting...

I can't believe that this heroine doesn't yet have an ivory cardigan!

And I would love to have found a navy two-piece dress for her, but I think that maybe the dark-wash denim skirt will be more useful; what do you think?

There's something to be learned here; even if your favorite wardrobe color(s) are easy to find in stores, you still don't always see exactly what you have in mind! This puts you in a pretty clear situation: do you need SOMETHING to fill a certain role, or can you wait? I suspect that many of us can wait...

December 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #4: Street Lights by Stefan Johansson

Maybe this isn't the most festive painting in the world, but it's still really beautiful... I find it kind of mesmerizing to imagine standing where the artist stood, looking at the lights across the river:

Our heroine took advantage of some serendipitous finds when shopping. She had whappage for a bright orange sweater, but then was very wise and measured when she decided that the green cabled sweater was going to be a core item in her wardrobe.

The striped top is a calculated experiment: she hasn't worn moc neck tops since she was a child, but she has liked the way they look when layered with a sweater. Further, the colors in this top just cry out to be part of her wardrobe. Therefore, she's going to try ... View the Post

If you happen to lose your wallet, or if it's stolen (as just happened to me), you will be endlessly grateful to yourself for having this information handy... Having to replace your passport 10 days before an international trip is - shall we say - STRESSFUL!

I already feel as if I need to find a new Georgia O'Keeffe painting for next year! Her art works particularly well for me, because she's adept at working with a really limited palette to achieve beautiful effects...

In the middle of a legitimate blizzard, our heroine suddenly finds that sweater hold GREAT appeal; can that be surprising?

A brooch in a bow style is classic, and gives you a festive air with just a minute or two devoted to pinning yourself in just the right place...

At the end of our year, our heroine's 52-piece wardrobe (yes, the same number of garments as the Weekly Timeless Wardrobe!) is split 1/3 beige, and 2/3 blue and green. This could have gone the other direction, or it could have ... View the Post

The last additions to this wardrobe! I might revisit these wardrobes later in the month to examine them in more detail, to see if there are "essentials" that have been overlooked. What do you think?

This is our painting - focus, inspiration, and some beauty!

Someone suggested that this heroine needed another pair of wine pants; I can't SWEAR that these are a good color, but based on what we see on the GAP website, they look okay...

I also thought that this heroine could really use a good tote bag. I don't know anybody who doesn't carry one at least occasionally!
