As promised!  The plaid skirts and cardigans were a specific request from a reader; I think they give a very youthful and "New England-y" feel to this wardrobe...

There are still LOTS of women who work in conservative office environments, and who must dress accordingly.  However, these classic colors and cuts are anything but boring or limiting... they are, in fact, a brilliant springboard for all variety of accessories.Monday, these twelve garments are going to magically become a Capsule Wardrobe Project 333 in navy and grey - stay tuned!

Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: my clothes, step by step

I was not able to finish navy/grey last night, so I'm doing another step-by-step, this time using my own personal 333.  This is a thought process that I can describe in great detail!   Regarding the final number of tops, jackets, cardigans etc.: start with a general target number for your final wardrobe.  I personally like to have 10 "bottoms" (i.e. skirts or pants), and I want 6 or 8 cardigans or blazers, because I wear them frequently.  And I know going in that I want to include both a very basic black knit dress, and my road-warrior black velvet Eileen Fisher dress.     First, I of course will start with black.  I wear a lot of black, and I never get bored or tired of it.  (lots of scarves ... Another Common Capsule Wardrobe: warm colors

Ever since the beginning of A Common Capsule Wardrobe, I've been asked to show what I would consider to be a version for someone who prefers warmer colors.  While this version isn't going to be quite as versatile as the original, it's certainly got plenty of potential.  Does anybody want me to expand on this one, with accessories?

Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: 2 weeks, with accessories

Yes, there are eight outfits in each week - I just can't find a nice way to show seven outfits on a page! 

 

Now if you dressed like this for two weeks, and someone remarked that you were wearing the same clothes repeatedly, you should just laugh at them, and suggest they get a hobby.

Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: from the sublime to the ridiculous

After we got back from Paris, belovedest and I agreed that we could have packed less - we had more options than we strictly needed, and we wouldn't have minded having even SMALLER bags...And that made me start pondering the number of options inherent in any "Project 333" that includes 33 pieces of clothing - theoretically more than 1,000.

So, I started illustrating them all....  and my brain ground to a halt at 160 outfits.  This would easily get me through 5 months, and I haven't even begun to address the possibilities of my dresses.  Wow.  I really do NOT need a lot of clothes - I re-learn this fact every day.
