Signature: A Grey and Ruby Autumn Scarf

October 3, 2013   So, I decided against an eternity scarf, and decided to purchase this beauty instead.

And as I admired how really pretty it is, and how nice the accents in ruby are, in the middle part of the scarf, I got to thinking about how this could be a really great focal point around which one could build their autumn wardrobe.  What a beautiful color scheme it suggests:

I already have my autumn wardrobe well and completely purchased, but if I were to go on a big shopping spree, this might be a fun splurge.

Chic Sightings: Red Shoes (and Belts)

August 8, 2013

One very striking dress, and one utterly simple and classic dress:

A great printed tee shirt with exquisitely well-matched shorts, and very fun zippy red moccasins. And a shirt covered with tiny red hearts, accented with red leather accessories, and white capris.

All shirts have sleeves rolled up, this time of year...

Multiple City Travel – Navy, Grey, Red and Turquoise

June 1, 2013   Someone asked me if it would be possible to replicate last week's travel wardrobe with grey in place of navy.  Of course!  This plan will work with any 2 neutral colors, and any 2 accent colors...

Accessories for multiple European Cities

May 30, 2013

paisley scarf - Brooks Brothers, red earrings - Blue Nile, knot earrings - Brooks Brothers, navy sunglasses - Paul Smith, square scarf - Etro, gold chain necklace - Brooks Brothers, red & white scarf - Monsoon, turquoise earrings - Michael Kors, navy & gold bracelet - C. Wonder, watch - Nixon You could survive without three scarves - you can live with no scarves at all!  The gold jewelry all shares a chain/link sensibility, and two simple pairs of earrings in your accent colors can get a lot of mileage.  Sunglasses in one of your core neutrals, and you're ready to travel...

Multiple European cities: Packing with navy, khaki, red and turquoise

May 29, 2013

I get some amazing questions, with descriptions of trips that make me absolutely green with envy!  One of my friends recently shared that she's going to be in Belfast, London, and Paris - what a dream trip for me...

She had isolated two jackets that she wants to take, and around which she would like to build her travel capsule wardrobe.

navy rain jacket - Jack Wills, short trench coat - Woolrich These are great choices - something waterproof is ALWAYS essential in Ireland, and it's wise to have a lightweight jacket even in the middle of the summer.

So my thinking: you need to start with a dark neutral color; navy is the obvious choice in this case.  I always start with a "core ... View the Post

Red, black, white, and two Hermes scarves; another travel six-pack

May 14, 2013     I received a great question; someone had two very carefully chosen Hermes scarves, and wanted some ideas about how to travel with them.  The scarves shared a common color theme of black, white and red, and lent themselves to both silver and gold accessories.

Packing for a warm-weather vacation, in red & navy

May 13, 2013

This was an interesting question - how do you pack if you want to carry on your bag, and you're on one of those airlines with a really LOW, and really STRICT, weight limit? (At least the destination was a warm weather vacation spot...)   My first advice was to get the lightest bag possible - nylon, with no structure at all.  You should consider lining it with dry cleaning bags, or packing your clothes in plastic bags, because these bags are not waterproof.  Beyond that, a very few items of clothing, in silk, linen or cotton.  No jeans -they weight too much!   The other aspect of this request that really piqued my interested was the desire to wear navy, red and white - a color combination ... Red Jeans & Warm Colors

March 5, 2013   It has been very politely brought to my attention that, while I did discuss the utility of red jeans back when I purchased my own pair of them, I have not addressed the possibilities of wearing red jeans with warmer colors.  Since red is positioned on the color wheel precisely between yellow and blue, it has the charm of being neither a warm color nor a cool color, and thus can "swing both ways", in wardrobe terms.  And for those of us who don't care to wear bright colors too near our faces, for a variety of reasons, a brightly colored pair of jeans or trousers is an interesting option to consider.

All about a RED coat…

Yesterday's post at A Femme d'un Certain Age was my use of one extraordinary coat, and seven garments from L.L.Bean, to put together 10 outfits...  It's best just to get in the habit of checking her blog every day; there's always something beautiful, interesting, thought-provoking, touching, or just plain funny in her world! ...
