I love this painting, and I'm quite smitten with the colors, but I'm starting to see how hard it can be to have a wardrobe this disciplined:

I really love the way this heroine has such a strong signature look. But her shopping can be difficult... Maybe that's not all bad - if everything you see appeals to you AND would look good with your wardrobe, you're living with a ton of temptation. Hmm...

This month, she found another crewneck sweater in a quite different shade of plum from her other crewneck. The shirt is just cool - smocked cuffs? A plum tee shirt and classic grey pants round out her shopping:

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe template is difficult for this heroine - does she really HAVE an accent ... View the Post

Today, we're going to play fast and loose with our color palette!

No, we're not going to go completely off the rails, but we are going to make a modest modification to this color palette, in order to better serve the needs of our heroine. (OMG, she split the infinitive!)

As tempting as that rusty brown color is, it's two things that don't work for our heroine. First, it's quite difficult to find! And secondly, it's not always lovely with black - at least to this one particular woman. Always remember, it's YOUR color palette, and if you need to modify it, do it!

So we're going to incorporate a more classic, traditional coffee brown into this wardrobe. It's pretty, it looks really chic with black, and many of us ... View the Post

I'm so excited - I just booked my annual December trip to Paris! I went crazy - I'm staying at a hotel that used to be a bakery (seriously!) and was decorated by Christian Lacroix. I've reached the point that flying over an ocean is sufficiently exhausting that I want to be pampered when I arrive!

If you go to their website, note that I've also stayed at the Pavillon des Lettres (same management company), and it was amazing...

Speaking of Paris:

Our heroine has a wonderful wardrobe in these colors, and she has the fun of balancing brown and navy - two excellent, very compatible neutrals. This month, she found a wonderful brown sweater in a style that's just a little bit unusual, and she was off to the ... View the Post

For years, my family insisted that I was really an "autumn," and dressed me in shades of brown, green and gold. It didn't really work, but looking at this painting makes me wish that I really could have that kind of warm coloring!

Our heroine for this wardrobe actually started by looking at her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe list, to see what she needed! She realized that she wanted to pick up a couple of print tops...

From there, it was so easy. She stumbled across these Dijon yellow pieces, and made the very smart decision to get all three of them. Having the solid fleece top to wear over her stripes makes getting dressed so easy...

She's looking very organized!

I'm quite certain that next month I will ... View the Post

August 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #1: Pines by the Sea by Bertha Lum

August 1, 2025

It delights me that we're into August - it just gets us that much closer to the weather that I like the most! Bring on autumn...

But now, for our first wardrobe, let's start with this soft, graceful and flawlessly balanced beauty:

This month's offerings in the retail space are pretty sparse; I'm hopefully that next week things won't all be selling out! But our heroine had some excellent shopping luck - she found a trove of really nice chambray. It's endlessly frustrating that during the hottest part of the summer, one struggles to find a nice pair of shorts or a pretty top...

This month, I've chosen to divide our heroine's wardrobe by color - another month, I might divide things by style.

I find it ... View the Post

Dressing in Harmony With Nature; Start With Art – Rolling Hills by Peter Schmidt

Dressing in Harmony With Nature; Start With Art – Rolling Hills by Peter Schmidt

July 30, 2025

I could easily see using this painting next year for the "6 Paintings - Twelve Months". This is the kind of palette I could see committing to forever...

Our colors are all neutrals, but WHAT neutrals! There's no way to make these colors clash...

She's Ready for Hot Weather! It's been a while since it's been truly warm where she lives, so when she realized that she'd better visit her mother for a few days, she was more than happy to do so!

For the flight down, she's going to dress rather warmly - heaven knows that one seldom is on an airplane that isn't nippy...

These are the easiest trips - she can always borrow what she forgets, and anything that she wears will be greeting with "oh honey, you look ... View the Post

Craving Bright Colors Start With a Bracelet - Fauvist Lynx Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

Craving Bright Colors? Start With a Bracelet – Fauvist Lynx Bracelets by Fierce Lynx Designs

July 28, 2025

Normally, she lives in white in hot weather. She seldom gets dirty, and when she does, she shrugs it off as a normal part of life. She likes the clarity, the simplicity, the way it shows off her complexion...

But this year, she's craving bright colors! And she knows just where to start:

The colors clash. That's how it's supposed to work; she knows the inspiration, and she completely approves:

She studies her new bracelets for a few minutes, and decides on the three colors that will be her summer accents this year. Well, at least for this year!

She starts her planning with her favorite white things for summer:

Here's where the fun starts! She feels as if she's colored within the lines, ... View the Post

Need a Subtle, Foolproof Travel Capsule Wardrobe Start With Art - L'Encens by Fernand Khnopff

Need a Subtle, Foolproof Travel Capsule Wardrobe? Start With Art – L’Encens by Fernand Khnopff

July 25, 2025

Oh, how I admire this painting!

You could easily shop with these colors in mind: warm but NOT reddish browns, very muted olive, ivory and cream...

Subtle She's got really vivid coloring. Her hair is every shade of orange and brown, that all mixes together in glorious, gorgeous auburn. Her eyes are cool brown, with highlights of olive, and a color that's almost taupe. Silvery? Hard to describe, that's for sure!

So she dresses in the most subtle colors, so she will always outshine what she's wearing...

Once the weather starts to cool down, she takes a couple of four day trips - leaving Monday, coming home on Friday. Just enough time to see friends, and art, and eat some good food!

She might go to New ... View the Post

Dublin What I REALLY Packed, Emergency Shopping, and Chic Sightings

Dublin: What I REALLY Packed, Emergency Shopping, and Chic Sightings

July 23, 2025

Will someone clarify for me WHERE July has gone?

When I was in Dublin, there were a couple of days when the temperatures were up around 80 degree Fahrenheit, which is quite warm by Dublin standards. I learned to my chagrin that it's also quite warm by MY standards!

First lesson - when a country's weather service issues weather warnings of any sort, heed them. They probably haven't had their budgets cut the pieces so their work is still thorough and accurate, and they certainly know something about local weather that you don't...

The resident of Dublin were smart - they flocked by the hundreds to parks:

Let's flash back to how I packed for Ireland; I changed things up after I posted my travel capsule ... View the Post

The Garment That Saved My Travel Capsule Wardrobe - Dublin, July 2025

The Garment That Saved My Travel Capsule Wardrobe – Dublin, July 2025

July 21, 2025

I will take a closer look at my travel capsule wardrobe soon, but the most important thing that I learned was that when someone (outside the US Weather Service) issues a heat warning, they're NOT JOKING! Yes, the temperatures were only 80F, but it was sticky and stifling in a way that I've not experienced before - even in Chicago.

My hotel - the delightful Staunton's on the Green - is directly across the street from this park. Amazing, beautiful park, which was FULL of people during the brief heatwave we experienced. Literally hundreds of people - class groups in deep discussion, friends in deep pizza, lots of couples and small family groups just crashed out on the grass, even some people swing dancing!

What to Pack for Uncertain Weather I'm Going to Dublin

What to Pack for Uncertain Weather? I’m Going to Dublin…

July 16, 2025

Well ACTUALLY, I'm flying back today. If all went as planned and I was able to stay in Ireland for the full week for which I was scheduled. I assume nothing!

This is the front hallway of my hotel - Staunton's on the Green, on the south side of St. Stephen's Green in Dublin. Yes, it's just as lovely as it looks! It's three townhomes which have been joined together; it has the feeling of staying with your poshest, very kindest friends...

For my travel outfit, I'm taking advantage of the Triple Top Secret - a sleeveless top that will be cool under an unbuttoned chambray shirt for the afternoon in Dublin when it's supposed to be warm. And a sweatshirt that I'm going to fold down into my quilted bag, for ... View the Post

Want to Extend Your Wardrobe Cluster into Autumn? Start With Art – Book Illustration by Goyo Hashiguchi

July 14, 2025

She's loving her 5 piece of ivory clothing. It's easy, it's elegant (in a casual way!), and she wants to wear these things well into autumn.

Can she?

Let's start with some inspiration:

Her accent colors are clear:

Her ivory core wardrobe is pretty well suited to extend into cooler weather:

As soon as our heroine starts looking at clothes, she realizes that for Autumn, she's going to shop in the very darkest versions of her accent colors. Maybe in the Spring we'll revisit this heroine to see if we can find her some pretty pastels...

But these additions are pretty delicious!

Nine pieces of clothing doesn't feel like a lot...

but it's almost impossible to put a foot wrong in this ... View the Post
