I’m always so excited to start these posts each month! Here’s today very thought-provoking, but beautiful, inspiration painting:
So I seem to remember that most of us felt like the Weekly Timeless Wardrobe template wasn’t really serving a useful purpose at this point, so I’ve discarded them! Instead, this month especially I’m going to concentrate on getting all of our heroines dressed for the upcoming bundle of holidays.
Today’s heroine is getting a couple of velvet pieces, which can be worn with other fabrics to instantly bring a festive feeling to any day. And I’m also giving this lovely lady a couple of cashmere sweaters – another instant upgrade for anything you wear. Yes, they’re expensive. If cared for carefully, cashmere can have a really LONG lifespan; my black cashmere turtleneck was purchased in Milan in 1999…

Earrings – Talbots; v-neck sweater – Alex Mill; grey cardigan – Alex Mill; black velvet top – Boden; sequined bag – Talbots; velvet pants – LOFT; velvet flats – J.Crew Factory
Our heroine’s wardrobe doesn’t look much different – adding more black to a black wardrobe isn’t a change that’s easily visible! The grey sweaters do give her lighter-colored clothes a slightly different look:
Dressy accessories are EVERYWHERE right now, and it’s possible to find everything you need (shoes, bag, jewelry, maybe a scarf?) without breaking the bank. Remember that you won’t be wearing these things all that often, and frequently they’re only worn in the evening, in dark-ish environments. Plunking down a fortune for a pair of dressy shoes that will be worn infrequently isn’t a good use of your hard-earned money!
And how will she wear her new clothes? All kinds of obvious ways – although I’m sure that there are some surprising combinations possible:
I could certain wear the daylights out of this…
love,
Janice

p.s. Five years ago, we started with Georgia O’Keeffe, and created a wardrobe that included both pink AND red. Not something you see every day!

I love the pieces you’ve selected for this month, planning for holiday wear. A little bit of velvet can go a long way to transform a look from simply cute to festive. This also goes to show that pieces don’t have to be loud to be festive. If anyone is looking for a pair of velvet pants in the chestnut brown color, they’re available at J. Crew factory right now too. It could be a nice way to be in the color palette, but not in black.
I am especially grateful that the velvet shoes you have chosen are comfy-looking. Who wants to be at a holiday gathering in pain?
I could wear pastel pink and grey all year round. Velvet is such a lovely fabric in winter – warm but light to wear. I especially like tops in Devore Velvet. I love the velvet flats.
I just love the black and gray. Also appreciated the look back. I’m working on wearing unexpected combinations, and sometimes that includes a mix of red/pink/orange…. Occasionally I end up with something that’s way out of my comfort range, but most of the time I can get it to work!
Always fun looking for holiday wear, great ideas, especially about cute bags.
Spectacular knitwear, Janice! I love the grey cardigan and jumper. I would happily live in them all winter, with the grey jeans & the dark jeans, and the silver sneakers.
Sat down to watch All Blacks vs Ireland the other day. Lo & behold, it was being played in Chicago! Knew it was an away game for us, so had assumed it would be in Ireland. I hope you were able to get to the game. I looked for your lovely curls in the crowd shots, but it was a jolly big crowd!
I didn’t make it, but I’m sure you got a view of the building in which I live! It’s a big black rounded at the corners high-rise…
Tickets were SO EXPENSIVE this year; I’m hoarding my cash to take Belovedest to Paris next month!
hugs,
Janice

If any of you caught a glimpse of the Green Bay Packer game yesterday, they were wearing throwback uniforms…charcoal jerseys and caramel pants. Not my colors but would make a pretty sharp wardrobe….close to the black/navy that Janice has shown us. Would be a wonderful plaid. (Pendleton???)
Yay, there’s a new post every day this week!
Thanks, Janice!
