How to wear a navy v-neck sweater

March 21, 2013   As before, you will see some familiar garments and accessories.  To me, it is a delightful surprise to start preparing a post with a new color of sweater, readjust my aesthetic brain to that color, and then find that there a lot of flattering "common ground" with previous posts that I've done...  Today I was particularly delighted to see how well yesterday's coral tee shirt and flats flattered the navy sweater and white jeans.  Although I think green and navy might be a new favorite for me!

Pretty much 45 seconds after I posted the 13 = 81 summer wardrobe, in which you can literally wear whatever's clean, and it will still go together, I got suggestions.  Dozens of suggestions..."This is wonderful, but I can't ever let me knees be seen in public!!!"

Capsule Wardrobe Spring 2013 Accent: “Tender Shoots” & A Common Wardrobe

I've taken a different approach here, which I think might be an effective way to wear a color that you really LOVE, (or that you have to wear for purposes of work or social solidarity - think favorite sports team) but that isn't terribly flattering to you.  (if you look good in the color, live it up; you're an uncommon beauty!) 

Basically, I've concentrated the color in a pair of shoes, and a bracelet - two items that aren't going to have any opportunity to flatter or detract from your face, unless you're a contortionist.  Then a couple of prints or patterns that include moderate doses of the color in question, but which will bring the shoes and/or bracelet into your outfit with a ... Capsule Wardrobe Spring 2013 Accent: Linen & A Common Wardrobe

Maybe it's my eyes, maybe it's my computer, but to me, this looks like a lovely pale pink. Back in the dark ages, when I was a wardrobe consultant at a department store in Des Moines (!), we used to advise EVERYBODY to buy a handful of tops in the same color as their blush.  A blouse, a tee shirt, a twinset, maybe a turtleneck - these colors can be worn with ANY neutral, and they were always flattering.  

But that was also at a time when there would always be an entire round rack of "house brand" blouses in every color of the rainbow, ditto for tee shirts and sweaters, somewhere in the store.  Now, you have to be an internet detective to find garments in varying shades of rose, pink, coral ... Capsule Wardrobe Spring 2013 Accent: Poppy Red, for everyone
