Once more, let’s visit this beige and navy spring and summer wardrobe.

You’re happy with this wardrobe – it provides appropriate and attractive options for pretty much every event in your life.  But you decide that you WANT something floral, just to participate in a current trend.  You love flowers.  You want a new tee shirt.  You just plain want to shop!

Keeping your color scheme in mind – either through carrying around some skeins of embroidery floss, or a photograph of your closet, or whatever mnemonic works best for you:

You stumble across this beauty in your shopping:

Floral tee – Warehouse

All your colors.  Floral.  It seems perfect…  but how will you wear it?  How about 20 options?

I’ve been asked to take the navy and beige core and stretch it in a very pastel direction – does that sound interesting?  I love pastels….

love,

Janice

I bought two boldly printed T-shirts last fall whilst in one of those shopping moods. They stand out in my closet in a sea of neutrals, but I have been astounded how much wear I have been getting out of them. And their quality is top notch, so paired with a cardigan they are office appropriate. I have never worn florals though, I like that pattern more in accent pillows. ;))

    Brilliant as always.

And as to your closing, "I've been asked to take the navy and beige core and stretch it in a very pastel direction – does that sound interesting? I love pastels…."

Yes, I would love to see that. My own warm-weather wardrobe also is based on navy and beige, and I love using those two colors with something close to periwinkle blue. For the last few years I've been enamored with the L.L.Bean tee shirts in what they call China blue. I have them in several permutations: crew neck, v neck, short sleeve, long sleeve, etc.

(And I like the combination of beige and blues in part because it reminds me of sand and water.)

Also would like to see accessories for the navy and beige summer wardrobe.

Again, thanks for all you do.

Great ideas as usual. I tried to hop on the floral trend last Spring but decided first, the floral was too large in size to suit me and second that the color was totally wrong. I had worn yellows without difficulty when I was younger but now middle age plus, that color makes me look jaundiced! As a result I gifted the very expensive sweater set to my DIL and never ventured into those waters again! Tiny florals might work. I love a pie chart and a graft, I think in geometric shapes. Thanks Janice!

It sounds very interesting. Even when the things you come up with aren't in my colors or styles I still learn and enjoy them very much.

I agree with Cheryl – though the colors you are working with in this series aren't my colors, I still learn and enjoy. Your styles are pretty close to mine though, so your posts tend to make me want to shop!! Not good for my minimalist goals. The template is helping me see what I have better and use it more effectively without buying in a haphazard fashion. I used your template last night to organize a core wardrobe using black and stone as neutrals, with lilac and lemon yellow as the accents. I also have a lot of blue (sky blue, royal blue) and some pink I could use in a spring wardrobe, in case you want to try that. ;)

If you have mentioned carrying embroidery floss as a reminder of one's color scheme in a previous post well, I missed it. Absolutely brilliant!!!! Thanks!

I have a couple of snapshots of my closet on my iphone and I do sometimes take a look at them when I'm out shopping. Not that I do have so very many clothes, but it is surprising how easy it is to forget what we have. Also, even though I am an interior designer, I find that not all colors stick in our heads perfectly. We see something new and think that it is the same as something we already have, but when we finally get the two together they are not the same. Having the photos helps with that, too.

I like the idea of embroidery thread as a mnemonic. This floral print is very spring-like and works so well with the basic wardrobe.

Thanks, Janice- love these! I don't like or wear green – what other accent colour could work with the red/navy/beige?

    Tks for all you do!
