November 2026 – Building a Wardrobe Starting With Lonely Erika Giovanna Klien

November 2, 2026

If you’re in the US, and you haven’t yet voted, I’m assuming that I KNOW what you’re doing tomorrow. I’m not telling you how to vote, I’m just telling you to be part of the process…

Let’s admire the clever and elegant way that Ms. Klien has arranged these letters and these color blocks into something much greater and more lovely than the sum of the parts. That’s what art is – taking what we’re given, and helping it grow and beautify the world:

Our heroine is dashing back and forth to New York every other week, and spending five days at a stretch with her clients in the city. At the end of October, her wardrobe was getting pretty complete:

Her accessories have taken on a real feeling of family; it’s always interesting to see how things chosen over time can share a sensibility that makes them the wardrobe of a single, and singular, person:

Our heroine felt that she had a real gaping hole in her wardrobe – a black dress! Those of us who don’t get dressed up a lot, or who live in more casual places, might not feel this lack, but if you spend a lot of time in meetings and at working dinners, it’s an invaluable wardrobe addition.

And she finally found a sweater that’s reasonably close to her favorite shade of blue. We can’t let perfection be the enemy of really, really good…

Icicle blue cardigan – Alex Mill; earrings – Ink+Alloy; striped cardigan – Alex Mill; black dress – Banana Republic Factory; bracelet stack – Ink+Alloy; striped tee – Lands’ End; slingbacks – Steve Madden

Even in the coldest weather, you might have to pop off your cardigan at dinner – a perfect opportunity to show a few beautiful bracelets…

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

56=4*14 !!!!

Our heroines each add four garments per month to their wardrobes. (this isn’t necessarily new purchases, of course)

If our heroines are going to each fill their 56-piece wardrobe templates, they’re going to have to go through this “addition process” fourteen times. In a year with 12 months. Of course, we started at the end of December with 4 garments – those four boring, usually dark pieces that frightened everyone so much…

What does this mean? It means that The Vivienne Files will be – for the last two weeks of November – revisiting these wardrobes A SECOND TIME IN THE MONTH to pick up four more pieces. Holiday-ish things, certainly for some of the heroines. Basics for others.  We shall see!

Here’s the template that makes all of this just a bit more clear:

Our heroine’s wardrobe is almost NEVER all hanging together in one place, but if that were to happen (all the laundry is done and she’s wearing pajamas?), this is how it would look:

And these are her updated accessories. I could easily see this heroine packing EVERY scarf and piece of jewelry when she goes to New York. These things are tiny, lightweight, and provide a lot of the zest to any outfit:

This is a heroine that you KNOW has thought through each purchase in great detail! What might she be planning to do with her new clothes?

An accent color cardigan is such a wonderful thing to have – my purple one gets out and about frequently…

love,
Janice

Are you curious about how this heroine got to this point in her wardrobe? You can find all of the earlier posts about this woman here: Christmas Eve Preview, January 2026, February 2026, March 2026, April 2026, May 2026, June 2026, July 2026, August 2026, September 2026, October 2026

p.s. Ten years ago, we started with Cezanne, and expanded the original Common Wardrobe with the colors with a muted blue-gray, and warm soft camel…

Every month I comment how I love this capsule. It is so balanced now colour ratio wise. More neutrals then accents. Seems just right.. Well done Janice!
