Lonely indeed! Thanks to a brilliant reader, we all know that the German word “einsam” is (not tremendously well) hidden in this painting. The Vivienne Files community is the best!
Our heroine is a pro with typefaces, fonts, and constructing documents with a combination of legibility and creativity. Sounds perfect – clear, but fun!
Sort of like her wardrobe at the end of May:
While her garments are all simple and classic (albeit with some snappy color), her accessories are where things get interesting. It’s easy for all of us to wear similar clothes, so long as we have accessories to put our personal touch on things…
This month, our heroine’s shopping was a bit of this and a bit of that!
She started with a simple black sleeveless top. These tops are excellent quality and very versatile. Then our heroine found comfy boat shoes in her beige/bone neutral. Very useful for warm weather!
Based on the guidelines of the 28-piece wardrobe, we still needed a couple of second layers in this wardrobe. Roll-neck sweaters are versatile (cotton ones need NEVER be packed away – they are always in season) and she found them in both a neutral AND one of her accent colors.
Finally, a chambray dress. A pair of earrings and a timeless brooch finish up her shopping this month!

I love that this heroine is so committed to certain types of clothing – the button-front shirt, or the short-sleeved tee. When you know what you really like, you should take advantage of how easy your shopping can be…
Accessories! Always more important in some ways than the clothing. I’m actually thinking that next year’s wardrobes will add four garments and FOUR accessories each month. What do you think?
And how will our heroine look wearing her new garments? Lovely, of course! Some days bright and bold, other days neutral and elegant…
I just realized that this is my wardrobe! My accents are purple and brown, and my white is more a true white…
But black, white and denim can go with any accents. Hmm….

While this is my least favorite of the paintings and wardrobes, I have to say that i adore this month’s pieces. They’re all very pretty and practical. I honestly have this same LL Bean dress, albeit mine is in the darker wash. It’s a workhorse in my wardrobe as a teacher. I honestly am able to wear it year ’round…with a chunky cardigan, tights and boots in winter! Be aware: if you have broad shoulders, as I do, you’ll want to size up. It’s meant to be looser, not fitted, so sizing up really does help. LL Bean also makes a sleeveless gauze dress in the chambray color…I know that for some of my colleagues, it has given the chambray look, while being a bit lighter.
Please understand that I live just 10 minutes from the LL Bean Flagship store in Freeport, Maine, so many of my colleagues, friends and family are real life users of their products!
I admire this heroine’s style the most. I really like the outfits she has compiled this month. I need to work on my accessories, so showing more would be helpful!
I also like this style which is timeless in my view. Love the accent colours. I also have a hard time knowing how to coordinate accessories so more of that would be lovely. Enjoyed the look back today as well.
This is my favorite wardrobe of the series and matches my style and colours very well, except I would have a darker blue instead of the black (but still keep some black). I wish I had been as thoughtful in making accessory selections over the years as as these heroines have been. I tend to gravitate towards a more minimal style and am starting to appreciate with these wardrobes how a few well chosen accessories can really make a difference.

Earlier this year, you announced that this would be the last year for TVF. Today you suggested having 4 garments and 4 accessories for each wardrobe. I certainly hope you’ve rethought retiring and will indeed have 4 and 4 next year.
What we all have to keep in mind, is that while this is fun/entertainment for us, it is work for you.

At this point, I’m thinking that next year I’m going to choose 12 paintings, and visit them each month. Twelve posts per month, three days a week. For months that have an extra day or two, I’ve always got my travel wardrobes to share, and my reports back from Paris… This means that I will retire at the end of 2027. How does that sound?

I think that sounds lovely! And as someone considering how to transition into retirement myself, creating a comfortable rhythm with a loose structure like this seems like a very good framework to balance purpose and play. I’m thrilled you will be continuing TVF throughout 2027 and hope you will not hesitate to make future adjustments to the posting schedule to better fit your new lifestyle. Having the freedom to choose how to use one’s time and energy is what retirement is all about!
I too would love to see monthly wardrobes including four new accessories per month.

Love the idea of four garments and four accessories each month. Now that I’ve finally assembled my version of the weekly timeless wardrobe, I’m really enjoying the hunt for statement pieces and accessories.
I love this color combination. I would need to add some pink or soft orange tops for an occasional splash of color. I might be in the minority, but I would never wear a pullover sweater in the summer, no matter the material. I need something to put on and take off (and put on and take off…) about a million times a day without messing up my hair or getting makeup on the sweater :)
I agree that a pullover sweater in summer is not practical for my climate or lifestyle – I’d much rather pop a cardigan on and off than deal with a pullover!

I was so excited when I read the following sentence in your post! “I’m actually thinking that next year’s wardrobes will add four garments and FOUR accessories each month. What do you think?” I say- YES, YES, YES! (insert happy face here;) )
Earlier in the year you had mentioned that 2026 might be the last year for The Vivienne Files. As a new retiree I would be so happy for you too, but I was still sad that we might not have the files any longer. When I read that sentence my heart did a little happy dance knowing that the Files would continue at least one more year.
As for the post this month, I LOVE this color combo. But who am I kidding? I enjoy all of your posts and appreciate how thoughtful you are with each one.
