How to Pack a Foolproof Business Travel Capsule Wardrobe? Start with a Ted Baker Mirrored Minerals Scarf!

September 25, 2017

There are so many beautiful new scarves this fall; I’m enjoying sharing them with you and using them to start travel wardrobes…

Mirrored Minerals square silk scarf by Ted Baker London

If you love this fabric and print, but aren’t crazy about a square scarf, this is also available in a cape scarf, a dress with a grey bodice and print skirt, a small skinny scarf, a larger rectangular scarf, AND a full-length skirt. Which could be absolutely amazing for formal-wear… Never let it be said that you don’t have a few options!

Yes, I know that the background on this scarf isn’t really a single true shade of grey, but there’s realistically no way that you’re going to be able to match the subtle variations of color here. Best choose something that blends perfectly and build from there…

I Think She’s Gone Soft on Us…

“I mean, she did a great job with the server farm – got right in the door and down to work… but did you notice that she was wearing earrings???”

“She wore earrings EVERY DAY she was here. But if it’s any consolation, I know that she bought her briefcase in the men’s department… but she tied a scarf to it one day – I was shocked…”

grey cardigan – L.L.Bean; caged crystal earrings – Flora Maria; pink cardigan – Banana Republic; pink earrings – Edge of Ember; striped shirt – Lands’ End; butterfly scarf – Valentino Garavani; white tee – L.L.Bean; clutch – Coach; pants – J.Crew; skirt – J.Crew; black flats – Ecco; blue flats – Kristin Cavallari

“You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I could have sworn that her watch had flowers on it. Flowers!”

“Well, when she wore a skirt to the managers’ meeting, AND a pink sweater, I figured that they’d just kick her out because she’d lost her mind. I mean, that’s not the way she does things…”

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourself, because it IS the way she does things, now that she’s the new manager of your department…

love,
Janice

Please tell me you're writing a collection of short stories about these characters. It would be an illustrated book, of course.

Thank you, Janice. I bought a Ted Baker scarf last week in New York City. Since I already have the LLBean cardigan from last year, I'm good to go! The cumulative effect of reading your blog for several years is that I need to buy very little.

    Janice,
I love, love, love how you have illustrated the possible number of outfits from these nine pieces ! The vertical columns are each determined by the 3 different bottoms, and within each column each of the three toppers is grouped with the varied three tops. Horizontally, each top stays the same, but is shown with the varied bottoms and varied toppers ! This just warms my schematic heart ! It is a great format for figuring out my travel wardrobe, although I would include more tops, depending on the length of the trip . Perfection !

I forgot to add that I have just returned from a 9 day trip through New England , I couldn't help but think of you as I packed a 4×4 ! My neutrals were tan, rust, and brown, with accents of yellow , orange and olive green, with one wild card of a teal blouse thrown in for the parting reception. I mixed and matched to my heart's content, adding various accessories of scarves or costume jewelry. Even my husband said that it didn't look like I wore the same thing day in and day out . Twin sets were wonderful used first together, then broken up and worn separately with other outfit colors ! I am planning my next 10 day trip to babysit the grands using a stone, tan, brown, neutrals scheme with accents of pale blue, and coral , with a white top thrown in too.

Evening dress for dinner required consideration of making daytime clothes appear slightly more formal. I stayed with the darker colors for evening. For the grands trip, that won't be an issue.

I love this colour combination and all the pieces chosen – just perfect. I have a new Ted Baker scarf that I received as a gift – in a steel blue/caramel/deep maroon – and I can't wait to wear it. It will go so well with my jeans, blue & white shirts and caramel sweaters. That is as soon as the temperature drops back to Fall temps – it's been over 30C/90F for the past week and it's to continue until Thursday! Hottest stretch of the year = and just when I was getting ready to being out all my sweaters!

Thanks for the Mai Tai reference. I looked at the first video and it will take me awhile to look through all of them. I'm officially on 'scarf tying overload'.

Beautiful scarf! I had to shake my head when I saw the colors that you chose from the scarf. When I look at it, I only see chocolate brown, peach, and rust with pops of teal. A great fall choice. Funny how we gravitate to the colors that appeal to us most.
