Start with Art: View from Bodacke, Liden by Helmer Osslund

March 20, 2019

This reminded her immediately of the site of their cabin:

1. View from Bodacke, Lide by Helmer Osslund

So much so that she decided to make this her wardrobe inspiration for their upcoming weekends away!

2. View from Bodacke with color palette

This summer, she’s going to plan out a simple, small, but versatile wardrobe, take it up to the cabin, and LEAVE IT THERE until they close up for cold weather! She knows that she might need to take something else with her at some point, but she’s determined to avoid the “every Thursday night” packing that inevitably results in something being forgotten…

So she’s planning a 4 by 4 Wardrobe, starting with “hedge green.”

3. core of four in hedge green

tee – Lands’ End; denim jacket – Lands’ End; jeans – Lands’ End; shorts – Lands’ End

Next, she wants some beige. She’s lucky that it looks pretty good on her – if it didn’t, she would either swap the 2 tops for more green, or an accent color!

4. core of four in beige

tee – Uniqlo; tank top – Uniqlo; shorts – L.L.Bean; capris – L.L.Bean

Her family is only there 2 or 3 days at a time, but she really wants to have a more than 2 or 3 tops. She’s going to wear the same pants and shorts every weekend, so the variety of tee shirts and tops will help her feel like she has more variety!

6. 4 accent tops

striped tee shirt – Madewell; rust tee – Madewell; ruffle-trimmed top – Lafayette 148 New York; floral camp shirt – Lands’ End

Even though going fishing in a white shirt might be a recipe for sartorial disaster, she’s still taking a couple with her! Summer requires white clothes, in her mind…

And she’s taking a dress to the cabin, too. Once in a while, when she’s fixed a nice dinner, it will be fun to pull on a dress and make a bit of an event of the evening! Plus, with the right garment under a skirt, she can be just as comfortable as she would be in shorts.

7. 2 white tops and 2 pieces in hedge green

white camp shirt – Lands’ End; lace-applique tank – Lucky Brand; green tee – Lands’ End; dress – Lands’ End

This is how her wardrobe looks:

8. 4 by 4 Wardrobe in Hedge Green, Beige, shades of Rust, and white

She doesn’t plan to leave a lot of accessories there, but at least a pair of canvas shoes and a pair of sandals! A sturdy bag will be handy if she has to dash out for something at the grocery… She almost bought the tote bag that matches her floral camp shirt – she still might!

9. accessories in beige and hedge green

earrings – Otiumberg; tote – Alinenina; sandals – Fly London; beige canvas shoes – Toms

When she piled everything on the bed, before putting it into her suitcase, she was quite happy about how it all felt right for her:

Without including her dress, she can easily see a dozen outfits…

I just got back from Florida, where I have left quite a few pieces of clothing with my mother. If you visit someplace regularly, and you have the option, this is the EASIEST way to travel!

love,

Janice

p.s. If you are on a website and see a garment that you like, note what they call the color in question, and search for that color! That’s how I was able to find the green garments that all match…

Lovely and harmonious little summer wardrobe. I especially love that rope tote.

I really like the hedge green color I see at Lands End too. I bought the pretty floral scarf in that hue and several shirts (navy, coral, pale yellow and white), to wear with it. It looks summery doesn’t it? Such a nice change from olive which always looks like army drab to me. It is going to be my palette for my Alps trip later this year.

Just curious about how laundry works with such a plan.

Re laundry, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the cabin has a washer and dryer, but even if it does, would I want to spend any of my precious weekend time doing laundry? And if the cabin doesn’t have laundry facilities, then washing those clothes would mean a trip to the laundromat in town. I think that I’d prefer to take a small suitcase back and forth each weekend. That means washing my weekend-at-the-cabin clothes in the city during the week. I would keep these clothes together in one section of my closet in the city, and I might put some clothes straight from the dryer back into my suitcase. (Tee shirts, underwear, and P.J.s come to mind.) I would also have a packing list. Those tactics would minimize the chances of forgetting something, I hope.

On the other hand, I do like the idea of leaving other things at the cabin, things that don’t need to be laundered. That would include grooming supplies, accessories, and a few pairs of shoes. (And of course, a nice supply of books for rainy days.)

I was kind of thinking of people I know in this situation, who are always washing swimsuits, towels, and kid clothes through the weekend. It’s not a big deal to toss in 2 or 3 of your own garments when you have a load of teenager swim gear to launder. But with a tote bag, one could always take home a few things and bring them back the next weekend!
Everybody will have their own preference about how to handle these things, eh?
        hugs,
        Janice

As usual, Janice, you’ve thought this all out!

I like the idea and the wardrobe itself, but I wonder if she is going now (March) might she want a sweater or sweatshirt? Possibly more than one. Well, more long sleeves in general. Maybe it’s a single bad experience – 20ish years ago, I went to a family reunion on July 4 weekend and ended up at the local Walmart buying my family sweatshirts and jeans. The reunion had been in the same place for years and we had never needed more than shorts and tshirts. That year had a cold snap. Now even in the middle of summer I pack a pair of jeans and sweatshirt, just in case.

Not my colours but I love the combination of different pieces and figure it would be a just about perfect summer wardrobe.
When I used to visit my grandmothers in Scotland I used to leave a few things there and I was watching a YouTube series recently about luxury hotels in London – and how many return visitors simply leave luggage with them between trips! Now wouldn’t that be wonderful!

    Janice,
My colors, my lifestyle and I adore the painting ! I agree with nancy brewer on that green — I’ve been struggling with my few pieces of olive green as a Summer color, and would prefer a cooler hue. The Hedge Green looks like the right ticket ! Many thanks for the “ introduction “ ! A lighter sage green could be interchanged with it too .

I used to do this with a work wardrobe! I would travel every week and I stayed with a dear friend instead of a hotel. I left clothes and toiletries there so that I only needed a small overnight bag to go back and forth. She had a washer/dryer, so laundry wasn’t an issue. I love this!

I love this. Such pretty colours. The clothes will be perfect to wear for her weekends at the cabin. She should definately get the matching tote bag. It would be an ideal travel bag.

Nice wardrobe! I’m a Swede and interested in art and I never heard of this Swedish (I looked him up) painter! But the painting sure is pretty. And I love that green color.

So, casual outdoorsy clothes can also be pretty, yay! The soft green is delectable. I might add another accent colour from that romantic blue-grey sky. Or not … it’s a holiday, after all. But definitely some hiking boots suitable for walking beside the river or across the hills. Dreaming again!

So, I just really love this… These colors make me think of wildflower-filled pastures tinged with foggy mist in the early morning. Such soothing colors and yet, definitely not too cool for a lighter Spring complexion like mine. If I traded out the orange for a softer coral peach (or Lands’ End’s “conch pink”), this wardrobe would match up with Renoir’s “Roses and Jasmine in a Delft Vase,” one of my favorites. https://www.pierre-auguste-renoir.org/Roses-And-Jasmine-In-A-Delft-Vase.html Would love to see an expanded storyline on this one! Something along the lines of “bookworm at heart escapes from her stressful technical job every weekend to pursue her real dream of working with words…” Maybe I’m just talking about myself! :-)

Perfect! The only thing I’d add is a scarf… not a fancy silk print, but a large inexpensive rayon pashmina. They are perfect for swimming coverups, a warm wrap in the evening, over a tank in the store, and even a mini spread for the riverside or a hike. I’m actually responding to “Double Trouble” with red as the neutral. Something strange is happening with your blog post. When I click on read further it seems to be taken over by a porn site or the screen goes black. Very weird and rather unsettling. Help!
