Weekly Timeless Wardrobe #6 – Dark Neutral Lightweight Pants

April 19, 2021

It’s not quite summer yet – you don’t feel like wearing corduroy pants, or fleece-lined jeans, but you still need a “real” pair of pants…

yes, I wore a cashmere sweater all day yesterday; we’re supposed to get snow on Tuesday!?!?!?

Hampton Purple cashmere sweater – J.Crew; earrings – Stvdio Brooklyn; scarf – Rebecca Minkoff; canvas pants – L.L.Bean; socks – Hue; loafers – Sunrolan

These are the kind of pants that you can wear during Spring and Autumn – not too warm, not too cool:

canvas pants – L.L.Bean

Any accent color goes with navy, I’m convinced!

Beach glass cardigan – L.L.Bean; earrings – Kendra Scott; sleeveless top – L.L.Bean; scarf – Lauren Ralph Lauren; socks – Ralph Lauren; suede loafers – Geox; canvas pants – L.L.Bean

These pants and a nice sweatshirt give you the option to use any color of the rainbow as your accent:

Earrings – Chico’s; tee shirt – Stateside; quilted sweatshirt – L.L.Bean; shoes – Keds; canvas pants – L.L.Bean

You can still look like spring, even if you’re wearing 2 shirts and shoes with closed toes!

Necklace – Gorjana; Linen shirt – L.L.Bean; tank top – Lands’ End; bag – MZ Wallace; shoes – Sketchers; canvas pants – L.L.Bean

Navy and red were made for each other!

Compass red polo shirt – Lands’ End; earrings – Sorrelli; canvas pants – L.L.Bean; mask – DIOP; sneakers – Vans

Sometimes, your tote bag will dictate what your accent color will be:

Knot earrings – Candela; coral glow tee – Halogen; tote bag – Emporio Armani; socks – Falke; sneakers – Tretorn; canvas pants – L.L.Bean

This time of year, these are the pants that you can wear a few times a week…

love,

Janice

p.s. Four years ago (minus a day!), we looked at an amazing painting and assembled an overnight-trip wardrobe in brown and sky blue…

???? Thank you Janice. My heart did a flip when I saw this and made me smile. Lavender or lilac is my go-to pick-me-up accent. The aqua green is also lovely.

I wear it with dark blues, grey and lately soft brown taupe. So the look back is timely and exactly the soft brown I’m looking for. Put with soft aqua blue or soft teal is perfect.

Thick cotton or ponte jersey trousers are my choice for this in between times when it is still near freezing at night but can reach 16/17C (61F) and feel quite warm in the sun though the air is chilly.

I shall wear lavender and navy today with a soft floral scarf.

We are currently experiencing our annual “teaser week” of hot weather before it goes back to drizzly cool spring. I’ll be wearing black and purple today – with my lavender linen topper. BUT only because I don’t have a lightweight pair of navy pants…. I’ve been looking for some, so this is timely. One suggestion to consider. Thanks Janice!

Inspiring. I’m trying to move my reliance on black as a neutral to pick up more navy in my life; it makes more sense for my life now. Enjoyed the palette – and the art – in the lookback post!

This is my go to spring wardrobe Janice. Cashmere jumpers and cardigans in every colour of the rainbow. Perfect weight and warmth, look and feel great. And as you say every colour goes with navy.

Those two wardrobe versions from the parachute painting will always remain one of my all-time favorite sets of posts here, Janice.

This post today is so nice and neat in a way that seems sort of unique to outfits that are based around navy, and I just love it. Navy, however, has always been tricky enough that I mostly avoid it. Seems like navies have to match almost exactly or they look wrong. Greys and browns are easier because they can be mixed and matched.

I agree – also two of my favorites – next to the Foxes – which is about as different as you can get! :)

    Janice,
It has been so chilly here that I wore a turtleneck top for a couple of days last week — I had been planning on packing them all away !
This post is an excellent example of a core neutral as a basis for wearing a variety of outfits and even changing the seasonal feel of them , as accomplished by the accent colors !
The retrospective of brown with the robin’s egg blue was a very pretty one ! If you had chosen a second bottom, what color would it have been ? Or would you have a chosen the same brown color in another texture or as a skirt ?

Pretty cute pairing the knot earrings with the knotted tote bag ?

One of the many tips I’ve learned from Janice! I now make it a habit to look at all possible shapes. Such an easy thing to do but I needed it pointed out.

Navy is such a terrific neutral year-round but especially in spring. Today the lavender and olive outfits were my favorite, but they all look great. We had snow flurries this morning!

Oh please more combinations of navy with colors like that delightful lilac color! Navy is my go-to neutral and I love to combine it in the spring with what I call “Easter Egg colors” such as pink, apple green, periwinkle and of course lilac!
