Does Navy Have to be Predictable? Start with a Scarf: Red Tulip by KathKath

November 8, 2017

There are so many traditional, classic accents to wear with navy – red, burgundy, bottle green… but what if you want something brighter, and more “off the beaten path?”

Nobody else wants to go…

But she’s going to the lecture. Alone. And she’s really excited!

(Her sweater also comes in orange… she’s very tempted…)

coat – L.L.Bean; earrings – Zulily; watch – Olivia Burton; sweater – Marks & Spencer; floral bag – Ralph Lauren; knit cord pants – L.L.Bean; boots – Clarks; duffel bag – Filson

Everyone claims that the University shuts off the heat on weekends, so she’s prepared to dress warmly for the lecture. And her hotel advertises that they provide a full brunch IN YOUR ROOM, so she’s certainly going to avail of that opportunity…

scarf – Karine Assaf; sweater – J.Crew Factory; earrings – Alexandra Alberta; pajamas – J.Crew; plaid flannel shirt – L.L.Bean; cardigan – L.L.Bean; brooch – Ciner; skirt – Uniqlo); bag – Michael Kors (sold out – similar here); flats – Softwalk

Yes, she’s going to pin a brooch to her cardigan that she’s wearing with a flannel shirt! And yes, she’ll carry the necessities for the evening in a wee bag…

Her friends are afraid that she’ll attract attention wearing bright colors, and traveling alone…

She certainly hopes so! If she can meet like-minded people who have gone to the trouble of attending this lecture, she will be delighted…

love,
Janice

Beautiful scarf! I saw that mustard sweater in M&S yesterday, there is also an orange cardigan, open front, big sleeves, very tempting! However, I don't need anything, and I thought about your comments recently, about having too much stuff and its effect on the planet. I so agree with you. I need to reign myself in. Linda M

Though not my colors, it's so nice to see vibrant shades, especially at this season when Chicago turns drab. Are brooches becoming a thing? I'd totally wear one with a flannel shirt and cardi. I inherited several awhile ago and have brought them out lately, wearing them with jeans and trainers-based outfits. They add a fun kick.

I love brooches, and I don't know that they're really "coming back," but I've never abandoned them. You really are alone in a crowd if you wear one, and I've never understood why they aren't more popular.
You and I can bring back the trend!

I totally agree – I, too, inherited a few brooches and began wearing them just for fun with jeans. I enjoyed it so much, brooches are now a regular part of all of my capsule wardrobes. They often add just the right touch on a blazer, sweater, coat, or dress.

Love these colours. Navy is one of my basics…and I wear a lot of red/orange/pink/bright blue. Have a navy scarf with huge spots in all the colours here….guesss I am on trend! Love this fb page.

I love this fun and practical travel wardrobe with its two gorgeous scarves! I hope this woman also packed some warm tights to wear with the skirt if the lecture hall is really cold. And there's nothing wrong with being noticed as long as it's for the right reasons, in my opinion. Keep these beautiful scarf posts coming, Janice – they are great inspirations!

I enjoy seeing how you integrate a vibrant new scarf into a black or navy core of outfits. Scarf plus sweater plus tee in colors featured in the scarf. This makes me want to look at my scarves and put one around the hanger of a perfect color tee or tuck in with a cable sweater stack to remind me to wear this as an outfit. You manage to be right on with a classic look, but never boring. Thank you for sharing your talents with us; it has made a big difference in my life!

p.s. Love the new shirt logo simplified without cuffs and making all the shirts the same. To me it captures your ideals of careful shopping and simplicity, of wearing one shirt many ways. No crowding on the bar, just a simple but useful wardrobe.

The yellow sweater is wonderful. I want one in black as yellow and orange aren't my colours. I have been looking for awhile, the search continues. Maryann

That scarf is breathtaking. I'm not a fan of these colors on myself (except navy), but love to see them on others. And I agree that there is nothing wrong with being noticed for positive reasons.

I do wear these colors together and am eating up this post. It's giving me such inspiration to shop my closet for more ideas. I do love lectures also and I would definitely go alone for a little adventure.

Thanks! I labored a bit over it, with the graphic designer. There are so many things that I want to communicate in a tiny space…

I love this color combo, and the garments you chose for it. Would you consider expanding it in another post?
