Start With Art: Version 2 The Apparition by Gustave Moreau

February 12, 2015

From the very first moment I launched the original post about this painting, I KNEW that I was going to have to look at this again, and pay full attention to the beautiful blue and green at the top of the canvas.

The Apparition by Gustave Moreau

I decided to make this really simple, and concentrate on the opulent feel of the painting as much as the luscious colors.

I pictured this as someone who has to travel overnight for a quite formal event, and then make their way home the morning after. This whole capsule is all about velvet, brocade, cabled cashmere, and ornate jewelry. Sigh…

Square scarf – Hermes, tote – Neiman Marcus, cashmere sweater – Jaeger, riding boots – Saks  Fifth Avenue, earrings – Jude Frances, bracelet – Kenneth Jay Lane, velvet skirt – Rochas,  black sheepskin jacket – Yohji Yamamoto

Two stone earrings – Kenneth Jay Lane, paisley scarf – Etro, jacquard trousers – Stella McCartney, black cabled cashmere turtleneck – Ralph Lauren, chandelier earrings – Alexis Bittar, clutch bag – Natasha Couture, loafers – Splendid, sandals – Pelle Moda, velvet dress – Krizia Vintage

It wasn’t at all easy to find these colors and textures, but I’m learning more and more that if you KNOW what you want, patience will be rewarded.

love,
Janice

That is a stunning dress and I am sure it is even more impressive in movement, with light moving across the velvet and bringing out different colours.

Janice, I went to a runway show last night which was artist-inspired. The artists was there and her painting were displayed around the room including the large one at the end of the runway. I kept thinking…oh I wish Janice was here, she would love this!!

Hi, This post is so drool worthy that my key board is at serious risk. Now, how could we translate this sumptuousness into a day to day wardrobe?

Those are my colors. And the clothes are gorgeous. Just checked on the bag and it is a great price. Will likely add it to my wardrobe. Thanks for this.

Just stunning and the gold accessories pick up that hue in the painting as well. You've created another gem Janice!

These jewel-toned colors are truly stunning, Janice. There is an air and water feel to them — the stuff of life!! That velvet dress just makes me melt. Brava, ma chère. I feel as if I'm floating when I look at this collection.
