I love them all, but not fond of the pink :)

I am not brave enough to wear bright bottoms but admire them on others

You are fabulous! I have yet to purchase a colourful pair of pants because I wasn't sure how to pull it off with what I have. Being the Queen of Neutrals, it looks like I'll have endless possibilities. I really like the tip about wearing it with another bright colour of the same intensity. I have seen a lot of colour blocking and now realize that intensity is the key. I'm thinking of red – but probably because I treat red like a neutral as well. Thanks for all the great tips in just a few sentences!

These combinations are perfect for V.O.'s aesthetic! And those pants–they're gorgeous, and they go so well with the Hermès M. et Madame scarf in cobalt blue she has.

Yea, wow, thank you so much! You got the challenge so right on. I'm so inspired now! B&w stripes…pairing the color with camel…winter white…black turtleneck…GENIUS!! I would have never thought of these combinations. This wardrobe display is exactly what I needed to inspire me. AA is right about the scarf, this gives me a canvas in which to display it. Thank you so much; you are incredibly talented. I'm going to Montreal this coming week and can now wear my cobalt pants with panache. XO

V.O., I'm so glad you liked my ideas. If I weren't on the shopping diet, the idea of these pants would be SO tempting…

I admire this look and get it, but my bottom half couldn't pull this off. I think the best way for pears like me to wear the brightly colored bottom is with a full-leg wool trouser, and that's at least a $150 investment. BUT, if you have a leaner lower half and are apple-shaped, this would be a current and chic way to draw attention away from a tummy issue and focus it on your narrow legs. Sigh, jealous…

I have been reading several of your old posts and it has been a great help to me. You see, I am the worlds worst packer and have a hard time arranging a capsule but after reading one of you posts I was able to come up with something for a wedding this weekend. Can't wait to read about stripes because I am sooo drawn to them. Thanks to Aesthetic Alterations I happened to stumble across one of your comments and checked out the Vivienne Files. Thanks for such a great blog!

I'm inspired to dig out the red pants I bought this summer, wore 2 or 3 times without ever feeling I had a good combo, and packed away.

After seeing these examples, I want to pair them with an ivory fisherman's sweater, a striped tee, a purple pullover. In summer, the color felt a little overbearing. Now it seems like a pick-me-up for the fading color and energy of winter.

Vivienne, shopping diet or not (and major kudos and inspiration, by the way) I'm sure you're one of the best dressed women in your zip code. There is such disciplined yet creative classic chic about everything you put together.

But I do love your idea of purple pants. If I was going to shop, that's what I'd get, too.
