Start with a Scarf: Leshy by Ilona Tambor

December 14, 2022

There are six different “Leshy” scarves…

scarf – Ilona Tambor

It Happens Every Year, at This Time…

Everybody who celebrates one of the “Winter Solstice” traditional holidays starts complaining that we should celebrate on the 21st… or that we should only decorate our trees with things that birds can eat…

scarf – Ilona Tambor

And every year, at this time, there’s a major academic conference somewhere that is centered around all of the forest deities and Druid-like ceremonies that are in season…

Pale seascape sweater – J.Crew; blue topaz earrings – Spells of Love; white double gauze shirt – J.Crew; vicuña corduroy pants – Banana Republic; bracelet – Chan Luu; briefcase – Bellroy; loafers – Lifestride

She’s one of the world’s authorities on Leshy, the legendary forest creature. Sometimes cruel, sometimes kind – he’s pretty complicated! And he’s NOT a brown bear; she’s still going to wear the scarf.

Navy sweater-blazer – J.Crew; pearl earrings – 33mm; gold hoop earrings – Banana Republic; scarf – Kinalba; oatmeal cardigan – Alex Mill; watch – Michael Kors; Fair Isle vest – Alex Mill; oatmeal tee – J.Crew; chain necklace – Banana Republic; bag – Longchamp; navy striped shirt – Alex Mill; sandshell shirt – Express; rinsed-wash jeans – L.L.Bean; skirt – J.Crew; blue scarf – Komodo; tan chinos – L.L.Bean; brown boots – Steve Madden; pumps – Trotters

For some reason, these conferences are always someplace cool, forested, and amply supplied with craft beers!

The legends get MORE legendary, after a few hours..

She will dress like an adult for her presentations – they will be videoed and made available online, so she wants to look like a Department Head and authority on her subject.

The rest of the time, she will be dressed to sip beer, listen to other presentations, and dream up another book or two…

She’s always fascinated to realize that stories her grandparents told her when she was tiny turned into her career!

love,

Janice

p.s. Eight years ago, I assembled a couple of outfits to wear with amazing ruby & amethyst earrings…

Oooh, the vest! So beautiful, and I’m not even fond of brown!!

And wouldn’t it be nice with the striped shirt?
I haven’t worn vests since I was a teenager in the 70s! But I started knitting again in retirement, and have a pattern for a similar vest in my knitting queue (fair isle front, plaid back! how much better could it be!). I have been looking forward to picking out the 5 colours, and getting started on it for next autumn & winter.

To me this looks on the formal side for sipping craft beers with colleagues and peers. Denim-colored jeans or chambray shirt or current style jean jacket would help to make it a bit more casual, without being too trendy.

Certainly everything goes together and reflects the colors in the scarf, of a cozy night in the woods telling scary stories! I can’t wait to Google “Leshy”.

Oh gosh, this is the wardrobe I’m working towards. And I’m delighted this scarf comes in a rectangle wool/silk version. It’s been years since I wore a vest, this could be tempting. So many things to appreciate and think about (for me) in this post. Thank you so much Janice!

Sorry – the rectangle is cotton/silk, not wool…

This is so ME…in so many ways…vest, colours, (if I’m not wearing black) cords, I could have each piece… great inspiring mixture of texture, and colour and winter.
Thank you for. Everything you do!
    I am a FAN Janice.

I always enjoy the clothing ideas and pieces you’ve chosen, Janice. But I enjoy so much the personalities you create, the stories woven around the outfits! They are like little mini novels, and I can’t wait for the next chapter. Thank you!

I don’t know where it came from, and I still can’t make that photo go away. It certainly isn’t me! Haha!

I really love the vest. It’s perfect. With the exception of the blazer, I think I like all of this. In place of the blazer, I would have a dark blue cardi & shell twinset. Maybe would also do an oatmeal twinset, a dark blue dress, and a brown skirt too. That would fill out a good many checkboxes for me.

I love these classic pieces (and colours) combined with nice accessories and brown leather shoes/boots! Other than gym clothes, this is what I feel good wearing. I’m going to study this further to see what I should add to my closet. Thank you!

There are so many potential outfits in this travel wardrobe. That always fascinates me.

There’s something about that scarf’s design that really says “early winter”.

I always love your story posts! It helps to see how a wardrobe will be used and how it suits the heroine and the bonus is that you write them so entertainingly!

Love this set- the classic pieces, the colors, the folklore scarf…exceptional for my money, Janice. And thanks for introducing me to Alex Mill. I had not heard of them. I like their offerings a lot; I will have to look into their sustainability & labor practices.

Just as Leshy is a combination of good and bad, this capsule is a combination of the Dark and Light Academia aesthetics seen through a classic style lens – I like it! Has a definite “tenured professor of a certain age” vibe that totally works. So many great items here but the sweater vest is a stand-out.

I was only familiar with Leshy as a monster in The Witcher game series (called leshens there) so it was interesting to read about its history.

The scarf amuses me! I love the brown and blue. What does ‘dressing like a grown-up mean? Wearing a skirt? I’d feel comfortable wearing the trousers, shirts and jumpers on a trip to the pub I’m the UK.

What a lovely homage to Solstice lovers! Yes to trees with berries! Yes to scarves with mythical creatures! Yes to academic conferences with other folklore aficionados! I simply adore your creativity and storytelling acumen.

This might be one of my most favorite of your posts. I love the story, the color scheme, The Scarf! I think that sweater vest just makes the whole capsule work.
I would so enjoy attending a conference like this. It must happen in real life somewhere!
Janice – you made my day with this one. Thank you!!
