I finally remember why Seasalt Cornwall ISN’T a strange brand to me – there’s one on the main shopping street where my uncle lives in England! I’m occasionally crazy, but I’m not completely gone. Yet…
So one of you – at least – has a longing for this sweater, and isn’t at all certain if it will work for her. My first instinct: if you have brown in your closet already, this sweater is going to fit in like it was born there!
THE LINK IS WORKING! AND YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THE FIVE COLORS IN WHICH THIS SWEATER IS OFFERED…
Maybe our heroine is headed to Garrett County Maryland, for the Autumn Glory Festival?
At any rate, she’s got a long weekend of “leaf peeping” ahead, and wants to build a tiny travel capsule wardrobe around this lovely sweater…
She decides to use the 9-Piece Slot Machine of Clothes to plan her travel wardrobe. Who are we kidding – she asked my advice, and I’m a big fan of this system!

She’s assured me that she doesn’t need to dress up at all, so we’re planning on three pairs of pants. A brown or rust skirt could easily be substituted here – maybe denim, or corduroy? The posh among us could find something perfect in leather or suede…

Golden ash canvas pants – L.L.Bean; turquoise linen scarf – Polo Ralph Lauren; spice corduroy barrel pants – Coldwater Creek; coffee bean pants – L.L.Bean; boots – Taos
The turquoise seems like a color outlier, until you remember that one of the things that makes autumn leaves seem so vivid is a striking blue sky above them! Yes, the sky is rarely turquoise, but the “color combination idea” is the same…

Earrings – Argento Vivo; turquoise tee shirt – Lands’ End; brown turtleneck – L.L.Bean; twine beige shirt – Banana Republic; sneakers – Pikolinos
As we did on Wednesday, we’re again going to give this heroine three different styles of “second layer” – a crewneck (which could also be a v-neck), a cardigan, and a vest.

Brown cardigan – Banana Republic; earrings – Anthropologie; ginger vest – House of Bruar; solid scarf – Studio Variously; striped scarf – J.Crew
My instincts tell me that this wardrobe isn’t 100% foolproof, but I can’t put my finger on an inherently bad combination…

Our heroine is driving up (we assume she’s going to mountains somewhere) on Friday morning, and then returning home Sunday afternoon. In theory, three outfits is a TON – but if the weather turns, or she gets a wild hair to stay over an extra day – she’s well equipped to do so!

Monday, I’m going to share a skirt that’s captured someone’s eye, and figure out how to wear it for yet another weekend trip…
Smitten with a garment that has you confounded? Share a link with me and I will put it on the list of “Slot Machine Wardrobe” possibilities!
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I was smitten with Picasso, and expanded on an existing wardrobe in shades of taupe and blue. Cubist inspiration, subtle colors, and an art dealer!

Like this wardrobe? Save it to Pinterest!

I don’t wear brown, but this sweater is gorgeous! I can see pink and a a darker more periwinkle blue also going with it.
And the boots is also so my style, but with very thick and swollen ankles, boots are not featuring in my wardrobe.
Janice the link to the sweater is not working.
Love these little plans!
This is such a beautiful sweater. I can easily see this going southwest style too. After my husband passed away following a brief illness, I moved to Arizona for 3 years. It was the change I needed, and while I knew it would always be a temporary move, the Southwest fed my soul during the darkest time in my life. Arizona, New Mexico and parts of southern Utah and Colorado gave me a fresh perspective. I see this sweater as embodying those beautiful colors.
While I’m happily back on the Maine coast now, I am still drawn this warm, earthy palette. Me? I’m picturing long days hiking in northern Vermont, or the Adirondacks, with this wardrobe. I’d probably through in a corduroy skirt in one of the base colors, for a nice dinner in a fireplace friendly pub, and a pair of tall, flat boots.
Janice, I’m sending you the link to a pair of leopard pants I just bought on impulse….I love them and hope you can give me some ideas!
What a totally gorgeous sweater. Very tempting!
Over here in the UK, Sea Salt can be found at Marks and Spencer and at various other outlets including garden centres as well as their own stores.
Perhaps just as well that the link isn’t working yet :-)
And I am loving the slot-machine template, both in general and this specific one, which is a close echo of my newly created brown-and-denim get-away-fast capsule.
Thank you Janice.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Was the Sloth Machine an intentional bit of humor?
While this wardrobe is not my colors, it is just my style! Perfectly done and such classic fall. Just what we need.
It was strictly a typo, but I admire the good luck I had with an amusing mistake!
I have, sadly, fixed it. Only the early-birds will know what the joke was…
hugs,
Janice
I love this roundup of outfits! I’d love to buy the sweater .. could you provide a link?!
I’m trying to get the link to work – for some reason Seasalt Cornwall’s website is slow, glitchy, and crashes frequently. Maybe The Vivienne Files readers have overwhelmed them?
hugs,
Janice
I’ve had the same problem with their website for years. I was happy to see Nordstrom carries the brand.
The link is in! This sweater comes in five colors – they’re all pretty gorgeous…
love,
Janice
Yes, I too stumbled on the ‘sloth machine.’ I thought so cute….Janice’s little joke about her favourite animal?
I’m also glad someone else found these colours evocative of the American southwest. I thin what this heroine needs is a lovely Pendleton Navajo jacket for cool nights.
Thank you for the link to the House of Bruar. I had forgotten about their knitwear. I have a lovely wool cardigan that I bought when I visited 10 years ago.
Thank you for always sharing a look-back! Today’s taupe and blue hit the mark for me, ten years later. I wish I could find some of those items today!
The featured sweater is gorgeous and the other color ways are interesting. I spent a good amount of time this morning on the Seasalt Cornwall website checking out other options. Yes, that website is SO glitchy!! Thanks for your patience with it, too!
Sloth machine was a good chuckle this morning. This sweater is gorgeous, and the purple is something I am seriously contemplating. I think that purple would go with my camels and tans… hmmm something to think about, but then it comes in blue and green all my favorite colours, choices are tough in this one lol.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Oh, I love this outfit.
I’ll wear this again for my next wellness weekend. I already have everything in my wardrobe, except for that lovely sweater from seasalt cornwall. We’re going out for a fancy dinner in the evening, too.
You could also go with a darker teal.
I love the greenish one.
@basketball stars, I love the styling options you’ve shared! Pairing the sweater with earthy tones could really highlight its warmth. It’s a reminder of how fashion can reflect personal experiences and emotions too, intertwining comfort with identity.
