Wear a Uniform and Simplify your Summer Wardrobe – Using Beige as a Neutral

May 23, 2018

Maybe yesterday’s white outfits are a little bit too… risky? for you… Maybe beige is a better option?

1. Six-piece beige wardrobe for warm weather

sweater – Eileen Fisher; sleeveless top – Eileen Fisher; tee shirt – Eileen Fisher; pants – L.L.Bean; linen shorts – Eileen Fisher; cropped pants – Eileen Fisher

The beige heroine has every color of the rainbow at her disposal for accents – you would really struggle to find something that would clash with these pieces!

So let’s go with summery pastels that aren’t saccharine and sickening…

2. Accent cluster in muted pink

cardigan – Banana Republic; earrings – Kate Spade New York; scarf – Nordstrom; bracelet – Elise M.; flats – Acne Studios; bag – Ted Baker London

Pink is always pretty on virtually anyone, and this muted shade of teal is a nice change from navy or royal blue:

3. Accessory cluster in soft teal

cardigan – Uniqlo; earrings – Argento Vivo; scarf – Ted Baker London; bracelets – Roxanne Assoulin; sandals – Michael Michael Kors; bag – Christopher Kon

If you were only going away for a few days, this might be all you would need!

4. capsule wardrobe in beige with muted pastel accents

You’ve got all kinds of different levels of dressiness here, as well as being able to dress for everything from very hot to a bit of a cool morning (or evening…).

5. 2 outfits with khaki pants and muted pastel accents6. 2 outfits with khaki capris and muted pastel accents7. 2 outfits with khaki shorts and muted pastel accents

I’m going to do this little exercise 1 more time, with a dark neutral. I’m going to try to find some unusual accent colors… These little projects don’t always turn out well, but I’ll see what I find!

love,

Janice

I am finding this series very helpful. As white doesn’t work for me, I’m thrilled to see it in beige and am looking forward to the next dark color you chose. It’s also nice to see how two of your most helpful frameworks (whatever’s clean 13 and French five piece wardrobe) work so nicely together.

Well, I am not really a beige lover, but this is so pretty! What a fun and useful exercise, thank you!

I love when you tackle the hard color combinations. I find them more interesting, not like everyone else in the room.

If you are looking for an unusual dark neutral, White Stuff have some pieces in mole at the moment, and colours to wear around it. This is a colour that really suits me, and I have indulged myself with a nice cluster. Get it while it’s there!

White Stuff also use cinder grey as the colour name.

I commented a while back on your most recent posy using Kinuko Imai Hoffman’s Blue that I thought I saw a little lavender on the boundary between the dark blue and the white–Navy or dark indigo, with white and lavender, and maybe some sharp green might be interesting for summer–not my colors at all, but they must be someone’s!

And if not next (because I’m pretty sure these are pre-set posts, as you’re in Paris), then maybe someday!

Love the white and natural. May I suggest a rose-clay colour as an accent – like this yarn?

Looks great with natural or black.

Thanks as always for all your thought/effort!

Janice, The beige wardrobe is perfect! My collection of, “Little Boy Blue,” pieces and a few peach pieces are going to be ideal for the upcoming cousins’ reunion! Thank you so much! Amy

I am told that I should wear darker colors on the bottom for balance. I would love to see how you do that with the dark neutral–maybe keeping a lighter neutral on top? Thanks for any ideas.

So lovely for spring! Could you make one for hot weather, please? In my mind I replace cardigans with short-sleeved buttoned shirt or kimono, to wear as completer piece, unbuttoned. And printed scarves I imagine as printed sleeveless tops. Everything linen or of thin viscose fabric.
