Are You in the Mood for a New Sweater?

August 18, 2017

As soon as I saw these sweaters on the Uniqlo website, I knew that I wanted to share them with you. My only purchase for autumn is going to be a black cashmere crewneck – I feel like it occupies a really different place in a wardrobe than a v-neck sweater, because to me it’s like the world’s most luxurious tee shirt. It’s dressy enough to stand up to the most lavish skirt or pants, but it’s still simple and acts as a great background for a scarf or necklace. Plus, some of these colors are lovely…

These aren’t the kind of cashmere sweaters that will make you gasp with astonishment – nobody will mistake this for Loro Piana! But they’re very good value for money, and you don’t have to become hysterical if something happens to one of them…

Yes, I’m definitely going to share some of my Ireland adventures with you, as well as give you my assessment of how I packed. I just wanted to get these sweaters in front of you before they sell out – which will happen faster than you can imagine!

So which color calls to you? I have to admit that the dark pink is really appealing…

love,
Janice

Can't wait to hear more about your Ireland trip and packing analysis. Thanks for showing these lovely sweaters today. I just ordered one in that dark purple in the last photo above. I've never seen that particular color in cashmere before, at least not at a price I could afford.

Dark orange, yellow, beige and always gray. Probably colors most other people wouldn't pick. And you are so right, they are like the most luxurious Tee. But what do you think of a rather busty woman in a crew neck? While I am not huge, I have to be careful or I can look larger than I like.

Can't wait for the Ireland posts. I can live vicariously through your travels.

These are beautiful, casually sophisticated looks and Uniqlo spoils us for choice. I hear their cashmere sweaters are the business.
Looking forward to hearing all about your Ireland trip.

I have some Uniqlo cashmere and it's awesome. I also once found cashmere on the Zara clearance table and it's one of my most-worn garments. Lovely job showing how versatile a crew-neck sweater can be (and you could sub a V-neck into any of these, too. Hands-down, though, a sweater, slacks, and flats is my favorite outfit.

On another note, would you please consider getting a different comment platform? My comments get eaten half the time – it's very frustrating. — Suzyn, who has tried to post this now a dozen times.

Yep, no UNIQLO for Canadians. Frustrating but probably safer, money-wise ? (Lizette in Calgary)

Those are beautiful. If only Uniqlo had clothing for talls! Their arms are just way too short for me.

I want to like Uniqlo–but their sizing just doesn't work for a busty short person. I tried on the xl cashmere cardi–sleeves too long, shoulders too wide, barely buttoned over my 34DDD. I'm not normally an XL in other brands–M to L fits fine. Anyone else have this issue with Uniqlo?

Yes I do and many other outlets too. I am 5ft 2", but overweight, currently a UK size 16. I have short arms and legs, but a long waist. Unless an item is actually cut for a petite women nothing much fits across the back, shoulders and arms. To add further insult many outlets do not stock clothing above a UK size 14 – BODEN for example. Sharon, UK.

I meant to add that BODEN'S petite range does not go beyond a size 14.

I suggest trying the men's crew jumpers. I find them a better fit at Uniqlo, at least in the cashmere range, and no one would know to look at them that they are from menswear. Maryann

Ok, I'm back from the Uniqlo site. No green in the cashmere. It's my best color! (green eyes) There is a green merino wool sweater. Anyone have their merino? V-neck vs crew opinions?

I saw the green ones in store. The greens are soft, i.e. moss/forrest rather than lime/emerald. Th quality seemed good – they are fine, with a nice sheen. Don't know how well they will wear, but the price is so reasonable and they looked so nice that I though it worth the risk – bought two!

I like the Uniqlo merino wool sweaters to wear as a "t-shirt" in winter. Great for travel. I like the crew neck because I will wear a long underwear turtleneck under it (they are too shear to wear alone under a v-neck)

LOVE this post! Can't wait for your tales of Ireland and travel wardrobe. This post reminds me of the v-neck sweater series you did some time ago that I bookmarked. I like v-necks on other people but on me they fall too low on my short frame. I agree, the crew neck is very versitile. I have crew sweaters in cream and light grey that can be dressed up or down – I like the look so much I sometimes wear a gorgeous taupe crew cardigan with it buttoned up on the back! I'm small breasted do I guess it works for that reason. I would buy these Uniglo sweater in a second if I were not allergic to wool . Also love the skirts here and so glad they are making skirts a bit longer for those of us who must cover our knees, Janice Collins, Washington DC

I'll pass on the Uniqulo cashmere, which I have assessed, but agree with anne re their merino. I wait for Brora or Bompard on sale, and have the pleasure of that quality and longevity.

Well it seems I was in the mood…. after reading the post I popped into a Uniqlo store and bought two of the merino crew neck sweaters, in brown and pale blue. I may get a couple more, I agree with anne that they function as winter tee shirts; add a light layer under for modesty/warmth, but fine enough to layer easily under blazers etc.
    ..and welcome back!

I love the choice of shoes! And I am also going for the statement-piece-with-coordinated-bold-color at the moment, so I'm a big fan of the loud skirts.

I love the skirts that you have used especially with the blue and red sweaters. The tags that show up on each page are very helpful with the darkest colors like navy and black which can sometimes be hard to differentiate on our screens.
