How to Wear Pink Jeans…

The conversation about red jeans quickly turned into questions about jeans in other colors… so here I’ve played around with a pair of pink jeans, to explore the possibilities.

And may I just rant for a moment about the ubiquity of “skinny jeans”?  In a civilization in which obesity and weight issues are so common, I find it absolutely bizarre that it’s nearly impossible to find plain old regular jeans.  Not “mom” jeans, but not leggings, either.  Do you really want to look like an egg balanced on toothpicks?  sigh…

Oh, I SO agree with your skinny jeans comments! For those of us with more, er, "womanly" shapes, the skinny jean does us no favors.

Last year I tried a pair of coral cropped jeans with trepidation. I was afraid that it was a trend that would die quickly so I refrained from buying another color. I had so much fun styling those pants and wore them until the snow flew. (Would have worn them longer but they are cropped after all and my ankles got cold.) A pink or pale peach pair would be lovely and I have two gift cards for guilt free shopping. I am a "woman of a certain age," but think I could pull off an ankle length pair with a little grey or other neutral top.

I also agree with the skinny jean comment…only the VERY thin can wear these.,,,but others do, partly because other options are not readily available.
btw..love the pink jeans….but not for me.

I disagree about skinny jeans being only for the thin. It is more about body shape and proportion than about overall weight. I have seen plus size ladies rock the skinnies with total panache, while a thinner woman looked quite poor in them. In those cases, it is all about styling!

I do agree that it is possible, although difficult, for anybody to wear skinny jeans, if they're willing to do the work to put together an outfit that works well with both the jeans and their body. What bothers me as much as anything is the ABSOLUTE LACK of options; really, in the 21st century, much we all still follow every fad and trend, to the extend that we're offered NO OTHER CHOICES???

I'm completely in agreement about skinny jeans. Unless one really wants to see every little curve and bump, then isn't a straight or slim/straight leg more flattering? And then to add stiletto heels…well, ridiculous at any age. I'm having a hard time finding new jeans or pants in a good cut for me.

Janice I do agree with the point of your rant. We all have the right to rock skinnies, straights, boots, or flares, as WE see fit. Retailers can be very disappointing that way. My pet peeve is the ubiquitous ankle pant. They are not particularly flattering, but it becomes very hard to find a full length pant.

Actually, I think that too depends on proportion and body line. I just discovered that ankle pants work GREAT for me, even with flats. :)

Well, I love skinny jeans/jeggings and wear them almost every day. I think most of us love those times when what is available is what looks good on us. My time is now, but I know that soon enough, the silhouette will change.

I have never worn pink anything, but the pairing with brown is lovely. Maybe I am one of those 'as long as it goes with brown' kinda woman. As I am looking over the clothing combinations again, I prefer the pink over the red because it is not so 'out there'. Tried on skinnies a few months ago, and while I was thrilled that they fit nicely, I felt like your husband did, and went back to a more convervative syle.

You mean the "just because you can"…? Me too. I am happy that I could wear them, the skinnies, but I choose not to.

I just bought a pair a pink/coral jeans for spring and summer. I am taking them to Europe and will pair them with a lot of beige and ivory. I hadn't thought of the with my ivory tunic and my clutch but that will give me another look. Thank you, Janice, because right now, you are my packing guru.

Skinny jeans are hard to pull off. Musts: very long thin legs, the perfect shirt, etc. They really only work well on a few women.

Love the pink jeans. I might just have to add these to my maybe list ….

Thank you, dear Janice, for listening to my special request! You have given me so many good ideas here for different combinations, that I am regretting travelling to London with hand luggage only this weekend! My pink jeans are in the bag and I will be wearing navy jeans. I prefer straight leg/slim cut jeans as I'm short, but not so skinny that they show every bump!

I avoid the skinnies and horrible "jeggings" as well. I would like a pair of straight pants though or slightly tapered but alas they are not easy to find. My wider legs pants are suddenly feeling outdated. Nice post! Thanks Janice for this and all of your posts. You inspired me to go to Europe last year with just a carry on bag. BEST decision I could have made!

I spent a few hours today trying on pants, looking for the perfect pair of casual, black pants for the summer. Everything I found and tried on were skinny ankles. In fact a helpful SA even suggested I size down so that they didn't stretch out too much as the day progressed. Well, I could definitely get into them but I looked HILARIOUS! This 45 year old would have much preferred a slim/straight cut. They remain elusive for now but the hunt continues!

I would love a pair of colored jeans for the spring and summer – there are so many options out there I'm just not sure in which direction to head. Blue, green or coral?

Here in South Australia, we're being offered dark red, icky middish blue, icky green(can't imagine *who* it'd suit!!),deep orange, and the ubiquitous white, even in straight leg jeans.I'd LOVE to see the occasional pastel shade-I don't want to stand out/scream "Look at me!" at my age and size-as I like to feel on-trend too.

Actually ladies, 'boot cut' is trying to have a revival ! I think the coloured jeans thing is almost over and personally I didn't go for it at all. I do like my skinnies which I think are flattering, it is low cut I can't stand. So many women exposing their underwear (or worse) when they sit down/ bend over.

FWIW, I'm a pear shape and found the eddie bauer Slightly Curvy Mercer Canvas Cargo Pants (now on clearance for $20) to be a great in-between pant – close but not exactly straight leg, but not really skinny. Don't let the picuture on the website fool you – they are much more flattering IRL than they appear on the model. Definitely size down -they run large.

I have just returned from a trip to London, intending to buy some chocolate brown (or even lighter) jeans or trousers while I was there. I have returned empty-handed! Yes, I did find some trousers in the colours I was looking for (though they were in the minority) but so many pairs were either low-rise or too tight or too loose (if I tried the next size up for too tight pairs). I'm over 60, so jeans/trousers designed for younger women aren't flattering, but I'm not quite ready for baggy granny trousers!

I have no arse and very long legs. Many trends, lo-rise, hip-huggers, yoga pants, do not look good on me. With my triangular shape I absolutely rock skinny jeans and leggings and I'm riding this trend until it's dead. The last time my odd shape was in style was the 80s. It's delicious to be able to at finally wear what's in style.
