The shopping fast: Month 6

This month saw a couple of dinners out with friends, and a couple of job interviews which weren’t overwhelmingly dressy – the bakery job didn’t really require full-on suiting, thank heavens.  So I found that for another month, I had everything that I needed or wanted, and was comfortable, appropriate, and (I hope) attractive for all activities.

I visit catalogchoice.org every week to continue to pare down my temptations which arrive in the mail.  Fewer catalogs = fewer dead trees, less recycling, and less time thumbing through them looking at things I don’t need.

Great looking pieces. I can see countless permutations, thanks a lot to your guidance. My own shopping fast is going very well. It's really so satisfying to pull together an outfit quickly and get some nice compliments. Case in point: For a casual (wintry) dinner at a brasserie recently, I wore black straight, flat-front pants, a dusty plum cashmere turtlenck, black heeled suede boots. BV (before Vivienne) I would probably have stopped right there. But I added a lavender/grey cashmere scarf, an antique silver and amethyst pin (big and bold), a black needepoint clutch with a bouquet of roses and lilacs worked in. I curated my outfit! Sort of classic-modern with quaint touches. I think it worked. And it was fun and easy to do. Thanks as ever.

Swissy – that sounds beautiful! Accessories can really make all the difference, can't they?

Why in the world would you need anything else? I do feel a magnetic pull when the window displays start bursting forth with spring things. So, I am making a list of my favourite items and composing mental images of what I will get to wear soon. That works for now, anyway.

Swissy, your ensemble sounds marvelous- beautiful, elegant, yet playful. Wish I could see that pin!

Love your style! You've probably covered this in an older post but, what are the shoes with the blue lining in the second photo? They look so comfy. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm wondering how to email you for a crazy 8 inspiration collection. I don't see a link for emails.

I'm finding this so helpful! I'm going to be cleaning out my closet for sure.

    thanks!

The blue-lined shoes are from Thierry Rabotin. Quite expensive, but amazingly comfortable and durable – I highly recommend them!

I can be contacted, in my mythical leisure, at [email protected]

    thanks!

Thank you for providing such a lovely and inspiring site. Going to catalogchoice.org to remove my name from mailing lists is now a part of getting the mail.
