Getting Dressed with the 33 Piece Capsule Wardrobe: the accessories

I’m not going to share with you what I wore last week, because with the exception of two days in the office, I wore flannel pajamas.  Constantly.  For five days, while I recovered from a stomach virus of Olympic strength.  Instead, I’ve aggregated all of the accessories that I wore during January, for our consideration.Bear in mind that the REAL Project 333 starts with 33 items of clothing AND ACCESSORIES for three months, and that there are lots of people making that work beautifully.  I’m currently doing the sissies version of 333, which has 33 items of clothing and unlimited accessories.

First up are my shoes – only seven pair, including two pair (the black & white, and the gold) which many people wouldn’t wear during the winter.  I shun such restrictions…  But it’s amazing how far I could get through the winter with just loafers, pumps, short boots and tall boots.

Jewelry: Pearls, pearls, pearls…  I wear the same jewelry week in and week out…

Scarves!  Here’s where the fun starts in my wardrobe – I buy a scarf every three to six months, and I keep them all forever.  After 25 years of collecting,  there’s a scarf in my closet for every mood and every outfit.

I do wear the same pieces of jewelry constantly also, and since they are nice basic pieces, I see nothing wrong with it. Your collection of scarves is truly beautiful. How do you store your scarves?

Thanks, Janice – can you give us a quick rundown of brand/where you bought your shoes?

Hope you're well on the way to 100% better.

my black/white penny loafers are from Bass, gold penny loafers from Cole Haan, black tassel loafers and black pumps from Stuart Weitzman, laced boots are Clarks, oxfords are from Clif Paris, and tall boots are from Eddie Bauer. Pretty much everything is at least a few years old except the oxfords; I think the tall boots could be ten years old…

I wore a scarf with my nightie and robe as I have been down with pneumonia and it is going into week 3 now. I can hardly wait to get over this nasty spell.
A little thrift shopping has helped though and I have a new hair style!
Hope you will soon be back to health Janice.

Well, well, I'm twins with you on the Jardins des Metamorphoses and the Qu'importe le Flacon! But I don't own Feux d'Artifice. You must love it to have it in three colors. Your jewelry and scarves are lovely. Best wishes for a continuing recovery of your health.

I actually own Feux in at least 7 or 8 colors… I own the original poster that was given to Hermes employees at the time of their anniversary, and I just sort of latched onto the design as a favorite.

Janice, how do you store your lovely scarf collection? I love that all your pieces are wearable and beautiful extension of you.

Ditto the question. Are your Hermes scarves all in boxes? How do you remember what you have? I am a visual person and like to see everything.

Count me in on unlimited accessories! That said, do you have a recommendation for winter boots that don't look like, well, winter boots? I tend to wear my Ugg's, carry my shoes, and change into my shoes when I arrive at my destination.

For boots that can handle the winter but don't look like winter boots, I'm personally in love with ECCO's GTX line. The boots are fashionable but Gore-tex lined. And mine have certainly gone through the paces, I've worn them through both a New England and a Pacific Northwest winter with no problems :) My only complaint is they don't make a heeled tall version.

    Janice,
You're a life saver! I've been trying to follow the 333 Project, and I just couldn't deal with getting rid of or storing so many of the great accessories I've accumulated over the years. This may make this whole project more palatable to me. I'm curious, do you count your handbags as part of your accessories?
    Thanks much,
    Heather

I was going to follow the 1 item per month goal of purchases that Janice mentioned. I am revising my resolution to something along the lines of 4 pieces of clothing, 4 scarves, 4 other accessories. I am fairly well equipped with shoes (but not well-heeled, I 'm afraid) so I imagine the 4 "other" items will be mostly some great accessories that can pick up some of the more frivilous colours in clothing items I already own, in order to tie my wardrobes better together. Like Janice, I refuse to include legitimate replacements in my count IF needed. I hope not.
