How to Pack for a Business Trip by Starting with Art: A Farm by Piet Mondrian

September 11, 2017

When I think of Mondrian I always think of those black and white grid patterns with little patches of a primary color or two, but in his earlier days he was much more traditional…

Colors are always what catches my eye – I loved the strong blue, the almost acid green, and then the much calmer neutral rust and grey…

“Uses of Color in Distinctive Branding”

Whoever names these conferences needs to get some imagination – how stodgy can you get? This doesn’t sound at all appealing…. But she has been writing the book on distinctive color uses for decades; it will be interesting to see what these young people think they can teach her!

cardigan – Marni; earrings – Mariana Llanes; watch – Triwa; dress – Lands’ End; scarf – Image Diary; handbag – Hobo; boots – Børn; travel bag – Longchamp

Her approach to color has always been to do the “wrong” thing, so the names of some of the upcoming sessions just make her laugh incredulously…

“What are the risks and rewards of combining bright colors with muted neutrals?” She loves that…

“How to Handle a CEO with Poor Taste” She can’t WAIT for this one – she has some choice ideas…

Breaking rules has made her very successful – what will the people at this conference be able to teach her?

At least she’ll be entertained!

That russet color is gorgeous, as are the pieces you've chosen for it. And it looks surprisingly pretty with the gray.
I saw an exhibit of Mondrian's works that illustrated his progression from traditional landscapes to the modular abstract works he became famous for. It was almost like one of those computer-generated morphing effects.

LOVE the rust and gray!! Brilliant! The pieces you've selected are lovely. I don't often comment, but this is one of my favorite vigneittes – and no black!! I know you love it but it is not a kind color to some of us. I've always appreciated that you show a variety of color options.

Hope you are safe in Florida – from the images I've seen, what a mess has been left behind. It doesn't sound like there have been many injuries… Chris from Indy

Love the color combination. For my coloring, I would look for a toned down green and rust with a slight pink cast.

I love the colour combination too. I would also opt for a softer muted green. Same value. Soft/greyed/dirtied limey/chartreuse green. Carol S

Camel and gray is one of my favorite color combinations! I have a Hermes scarf with those colors plus blue in one and amother with camel/gray and red. I have similar boots and earrings and watch, even that same Longchamps bag—thanks for these ideas for new combinations to wear what I already have!

Goodness, this is fantastic in every respect and the text! Very funny and clever, brilliant!

Mondrian's love of line is definitely there in the composition, but its the large curvy puddle that I particularly like x

I hope you had as much fun putting this together as I did reading it. Now, what I really want to read are the speaker's notes for the CEO with poor taste presentation. Ps, I really like the colour combinations and the painting is delightful.

You have to write a book. The text was as hilarious as the clothes were sublime.

Love the russet and gray. Those are the neutrals (along with navy) I am contemplating for Fall.

This is glorious! Would never have dreamt to combine these colors, but I love it. And each outfit is so distinctive! Well done. I think I would love to be friends with this lady… she is quite the renegade in classic clothing!
