1 Dress 100 Days: Days 28 and 29

September 29, 2022

I worked quite a bit on Wednesday, and then went out to lunch on Thursday. Getting dressed both days was so easy, and it’s delightful to be able to wear my scarves so much!

love,

Janice

I’m glad you’re feeling better. Lunch out is always a treat. I’m loving the pink with black. It reminds me of a Start with Art you did. An oriental painting of geishas in a garden of cherry blossom.

I just saw your pink scarf, pullover and earrings on your Instagram page. So pretty!

Beth t I remember that one too. The one that really got me into pink & black was a painting Janice featured by Somebody Aram. It was an abstract. The name escapes me. Started with a K I think.

I’m afraid I would have to spend so much time figuring out how to style my dress each day that it would sort of ruin the point of the exercise. “Now, what scarf have I not worn in the last week? Do I have any earrings that would complement this? Where is my pink watch? Are my black shoes shined?” I would need to put together mini capsules for every day! LOL
Today I put on my autumn neutral bottom, my Thursday top, and my autumn neutral cardigan. No jewelry (medical tests) and flip flops. Easy peasy.

This sounds like an interesting system. If you don’t mind my asking, what is your autumn neutral?

Sandy, my autumn neutral is a dark espresso brown. I have it in a nice trouser, a split skirt and a jogger as well as a burnout velvet cardigan. So one bottom to wear, one for the wash and one for emergencies.
My winter neutral is black, my spring neutral is mid to charcoal grey, and my summer neutral that I just put away is navy. I try to keep to the same types of bottoms and cardigans throughout the seasons, though not necessarily the same fabrics. For most seasons I have two second layers, so I’m sort of looking for a second one for this autumn.
I also have at least one pair of shoes, a purse, and a hat in each neutral.

I am also interested in hearing more about this system!

Sally, my system is pretty simple I think. I selected one colour for my neutrals per season (see my reply to Sandy), and one colour or theme for each day of the week, because I can never have too many colors. All of my solid colors can be worn with any of my seasonal neutrals and most of my printed tops can be worn with at least three if not all four of my neutrals.
For instance, my colour for Wednesday is lavender or the theme is flight. I have a solid lavender tank top and a navy tunic with a single large dragonfly across the front. So I have seven solid colour tops and seven printed tops. Every day I know what I’m going to be wearing.
Now If only I could get rid of the myriad things that don’t fit the system I will have managed to “curate my closet”. It’s a work in progress.
As far as the mini capsules, I thought, start with the things I know I have to wear with a top and a bottom like shoes and underwear, then add in the accessories like hats, gloves, scarves, jewelry, sunglasses, masks, purses etc. It could be done. I certainly have plenty of things. The hardest part is actually letting go of stuff.

You have a lot of clothes that compliment this dress well. I was thinking about layering my shirts under and I mostly have V-necks which always look funny to me under a round neck.

Do you wear the grey top over or under your black dress? It’s all looking fabulous and the time is going so quickly – 28 days!!

This project is getting more and more interesting. It’s clear that you have some well stocked basics that are simple, yet work well with the black. And the ballet flats are the Vivienne style. Literally, lol.

Oh my stars (ahem), you have a gorgeous scarf collection. It’s worth stopping by just to see what scarf made the outfit of the day!

    I love the star scarf!

Somehow I keep falling in love with the very few items you don’t have links for… but I am enjoying the inspiration!
