My favorite flowers, possibly… (in the real world, I refuse to choose!) While violets weren’t as easy to find as carnations, and while the actual COLOR violet is subject to massive dispute, there are still lovely and tempting things for those celebrating birthdays in February – or for those of us who just simple love violets!
lip gloss – MAC; silver & gold bracelet – Beaucoup Designs; REAL flower bracelet – Shari Dixon; black blouse – Rebecca Taylor; earrings – Lafonn; eyeshadow – Chanel Vibrant Violet; silver ring – Nyoman Rena; dress – Lands’ End; sweater – Twin-Set; black cord bracelet – Samart Takham; nail polish – Nars Purple Rain; silver bracelet – Antonio Reyes
I need a dressy blouse like a bad headache, but that black blouse could be just LOVELY with my velvet pants…
Does violet go well with various neutrals? I’ve chosen a dead-plain, classic tee shirt to use for our illustrations. And yes, I’ve kept the same pants from last month, and many of the same accessories – just to show how versatile a core of neutral items can be.
Van Gogh socks and green-eyed cats? This is one interesting heroine…
tee shirt – Lands’ End; scarf – Gucci; socks – Hot Sox; loafers –Taryn Rose; pants – L.L.Bean; bag – Gucci
The more I write The Vivienne Files, the more I begin to feel that navy is an under-appreciated heroine of many a wardrobe…
tee shirt – Lands’ End; earrings – Chintan; scarf – Salvatore Ferragamo; bracelet – Teodoro Melendez and Family; loafers – Naturalizer; pants – L.L.Bean
The brown looks great – the scarf is made for this outfit! But the socks might be the only accessory that you need to feel just right…
tee shirt – Lands’ End; scarf – Adrienne Landau; socks – Darn Tough; boots – Hunter; pants – L.L.Bean; bag – Shinola
I’ve kept the outfit with grey very simple… sometimes the color is all that you need to catch the eye.
tee shirt – Lands’ End; necklace – Narayani; ring – Buana; bag – Furla; loafers – Tod’s; pants – Banana Republic
Of course violet looks good with white – everything looks good with white!
tee shirt – Lands’ End; earrings – Zayd Makarim; scarf – Emanuel Ungaro; bag – Dooney & Bourke; flats – Børn; denim pants – Eileen Fisher
I feel that all of these flower colors MUST look good with green – in nature they would be surrounded by leaves and stems…
tee shirt – Lands’ End; earrings – Saranarat; scarf – Pam Weinstock London; bag – Ted Baker London; boots – L’Artiste; corduroy pants – L.L.Bean
After yesterday’s ultraviolets and today’s post, you should have a pretty clear idea of how much (if any) violet you want to add to your wardrobe!
love,
Janice

More beautiful purple! It's a colour I've always loved, but it's been very difficult to find for the last few years. Hopefully, we will see more around. I love the accessories, you have used in these ensembles. Janine
I'm loving this colour more and more – and all those scarves are just gorgeous!
Good morning
I like purple, so the last two days have made me very happy. I just re-read Monday's post, and at the end you say that instead of a scarf the right jewelry will tie together an outfit. Bingo! this is the exact reason I started planning my wardrobe. I realised I like accessories most, so having simple, classic clothing is the ideal background.
Even though I do not wear olive green I think it looks very soothing with the purple.
Looking forward to more Birth Month flowers.
I really like the gray pants in this series. Janice, do you receive a commission if we purchase from your link?
Does anyone have any experience with those particular pants? They look “dressy”. Would they look/feel out of place in a casual environment and lifestyle? I rarely need to “dress up” but I do like to look and feel “put together.” Thank you.
Dear Jennifer,
I do indeed get a small commission when you make a purchase through my links – it doesn't have to be the exact item that I show, either! And I'm very grateful that you're thinking of me…
Maybe order the pants and try them with a few things that you would wear with them, to see how they feel? For me, if I had something that pulled down over the belt loops, they would immediately feel more casual. A tucked-in shirt with a belt would feel dressier… Just my opinion, thought!
hugs,
Janice
Janice, I just want to say how much I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting these blog posts together. I have a small family blog for sharing pictures and I am very aware that by the time things get found, edited and posted…it's just a lot of work. Thank you! It has helped a very fashion-challenged, late 50's, chubby gal feel more put together. It's a great service, and I for one really appreciate your efforts.
Dear Catherine,
You're welcome! I truly enjoy doing this…
hugs,
Janice
Those Starry Night socks and the cat scarf put a smile on my face. My favorite outfit is the violet/grey one. I remember picking little bouquets of violets for my mother. This post just looks like spring.
KiKi loved this one, but then, purple is her second favorite color! Lots of ohhhhs and ahhhhhs!
I was thinking of her when I was working on these last 2 posts – I know about her and purple! xoxoxo, Aunt Jake
That black blouse has your name written all over it Janice! It not only is black with violet print, but the fabric has STAR burnouts too!!
I have some purple and I do wear it, but ever since I wore tons of purple when pregnant in the 80s, it just hasn't had the same appeal for me, haha. That being said, purple with gray really is lovely (more so than with black or navy, to my eyes). – nancyo
