Capsule Wardrobe Project 333 for a new season – shifting white tops

Another gradual change for my Project 333 wardrobe – the white tee shirt will give way to a simple white blouse. If you haven’t had luck purchasing a button-front shirt, I can’t encourage you enough to continue to try them on from time to time. Companies continue to tweak their cuts, and it’s very possible that you will be able to find one that fits you perfectly. When I did my gig working in the bakery last year, I had to wear a white shirt EVERY DAY, and I found that Lands’ End made petite styles that fit me as if made to measure. Now that I own FIVE of them, they are definitely going to get rotated into my fall and winter wardrobe.

And they’re ideal for wearing scarves…

I do like this transitioning project, it gives me great ideas. This one will be my packing starter as I am heading for Germany next week. The weather can be quite unpredictable there in the summer. And didn't you say to pack two items for each day plus two? The days of schlepping two suitcases are over for me. :)

It's 35C here in Bavaria today, and not predicted to drop below 30C before Wednesday……….

Yuck! We're having a beautiful cool day in Chicago. Our weather is a mess…

This is perfect timing. We'll have more 90-degree days, but winter is on its way…

I love Germany! We lived there for four years! Make sure to pack extremely comfortable walking shoes that will go with both pants and skirts. Those cobblestones are gorgeous, but not made for heels.

I will because I was born there. :) Heading back for my yearly visit-the- family journey. I had heard about the hot summer, and I hope it's over by the time I get there next weekend. I have enough heat here in the South…

Janice, I discovered that LE button up shirts in petite fit me perfectly too. My only problem is that I've grown used to not tucking shirts in these last years due to a disappearing waistline (although overall I weigh less). If you wear a cardigan, it does look untidy not to tuck, don't you think? Or do you? Anyone?

Sometimes I tuck, other times I don't. It just depends on how I feel on any given day. I think the untidiness doesn't really apply if you wear the peeking hems with elan and happiness!

Having a long-disappeared waistline, I depend on slim, loose belts worn low in front over the untucked blouse when wearing a cardigan. It both tidies and slenderizes.

Thank you both. I'll try the slim, loose belt under my cardigans.

Janice, I wasn't sure how to wear a scarf with a collared shirt so I googled it, and found lots of advice not to try it! I'd love a post on how to tie a scarf when wearing a shirt with a collar.

I fold my scarves into a long rectangle, and tie them sort of like a man's tie, loose under my collar. If the weather cools down, I'll take a few pictures. All fashion advice is meant to be ignored, I swear…

    Hi Janice,

I love how you are helping us be thrifty and stylish while also helping us find the Nordstrom site. This is how bloggers should do it.
PS, as a follow up to your previous comment, we do need to pay attention to your fashion advice!.

So, Janice, are you going to include your skirted leggings in your wardrobe this fall/winter? I know Chicago weather is radically different from Houston's. I wore my regular yoga pants all summer because I bought a great light linen top, like a big blazer with no buttons, that went well over everything. (Thank you!!) Last year I found the leggings went well with boots and sweaters and I would love to know what you are doing with yours!

Oh, the skirted leggings are going to be a 12 month garment – they're that good! I'm thinking of doing a post showing them each month of the year.

I am really enjoying your transition project! What a great way to wear the same outfits different ways — perfect for the season we have entered into where it is fall-like one day and definitely summer the next.

Hi —- Usually I can find your subtext that lists the designer/company, but the most recent project for transitioning from tee to blouse has a great black and white jacket. It's fabulous, but can't find the listing; identify please. So glad to have found your blog – it's been ever so helpful and fun. Thanks – MMR

The Project 333 posts I do show clothes that I actually own, and that might not be available anymore. The black ziggy jacket is from Missoni – they're always doing cool things in black & white…

Thanks – I'll keep looking for something similar – Missoni is just so classic! MMR

I find it funny that so many people are saying "Summer is nearly over, it's almost Autumn!"

Here in Germany we just came off the sixth-hottest July of all time and August is threatening to be not much better. So it is pretty darned hard to think of long sleeves and things like that. Right now I'm more interested in how to face that closet full of summer clothes that I am getting tired of!

But these are such great ideas, I think I will print them out and save them for the more appropriate time….

Marks & Spencer are introducing a white fitted "no-peek" blouse (shirt) in their new collection, with a placket and extra buttons… for anyone in the UK or willing to do mail order :)

I ADORE this transition. I am not a super casual person (yes, even on the weekends), so this classier, but not at all stuffy, direction is very useful to me.
