A Travel Capsule Wardrobe – Packing for spring break, in aqua and ocean blue

A young reader asked me to suggest what to pack for spring break, based on her preferred water colors, and on two bikinis she owns.  These are my ideas…

Tee – J. Crew, Jeans – Place des Tendances, cardigan – J. Crew,
tote – Modcloth, earrings – Jamie
Joseph, bracelet – Chan Luu,  flats – Nine West,
carry-on bag – Heys

Note that I ALWAYS recommend long pants, closed-toe shoes, and a cardigan or jacket for travel.  When you embark on a voyage, you truly have no idea how long you’ll be traveling, or under what conditions.  But you know that (a) planes are cold, (b) airports are big, and (c) it’s nicer to take off too much clothing than it is to wrap oneself in an airplane blanket!

bikinis – Hurley, hoodie – Patagonia, strapless swimsuit – J. Crew, tunic/short dress – Dorothy Perkins, top – Reiss online,
tank tops and shorts – Witchery.com.au, print tee shirt – Stella McCartney,
white skirt – Closed, cardigan- Patagonia, flip flops – Old Navy

I have three more variations of this suitcase to come, in gradually more modest and/or mature versions.  Some variation in colors, too…

Ah, that's why I'm doing some variations. While I know that the young lady in question is going to be adorable dressed like this, it's QUITE a stretch for me to even imagine any of these clothes!
    thanks for being here,
    Vivienne

I'm past bikinis (and shorts if I'm honest) but I'm loving the rest for my wardrobe.

Perfect timing. I need a mature version also, maybe black and white with brights?

I just love the look of this: puts me in a vacation mood (how I wish I had one!). Oh, and here's a request: I have a navy blue JCrew cotton (wonderful substantial Japanese cotton) suit (blazer, pants, skirt) — but want to pair it with blouses/tops that are lighter and springier, thereby transitioning from fall to spring. I know that white shirt/blouse is the usual pairing here, or striped shirts, but I am looking for prints, for something a little unexpected and unique, something to make the suit look less severe and more playful and creative, but still sophisticated and professional. So, if you have time, a navy suit spring wardrobe inspiration would be so appreciated!! XO

I did not request this, but as one of your younger readers, I am loving this version. I would wear everything here in a heart beat. Thanks for your hard work putting this together!

I too would wear every one of these pieces! Maybe if I listen hard I can hear the waves crash!

I do love this! I always overpack, and this challenges me to think bigger picture, not just "every favorite piece". Thanks!

Love the turquoise and medium blue together with the white. For me, it's hard to find structured clothes to take on vacation. I always end up with non-fitted, baggie clothes that don't fit my body or personality. Cardigans and belts help, but who wants to wear those in the tropics. LOVE your blog!!
