Can you Pack with Camel as your Neutral?

June 22, 2017

This is a really old post – from back in 2012! The nice thing is that none of the garments have dated, and you could easily pull this outfit on and head off for a 2nd honeymoon looking beautiful…

camel cardigan – Organic by John Patrick, gold heart earrings – Alex and Chloe, white tee – Michael Stars, Scarf – Brooks Brothers, Denim coat – Derek Lam, camel pants – L.K. Bennett, penny loafers – J. Crew, camel bag – Vince Camuto

In the early days of The Vivienne Files I spent a lot of time looking at camel as a neutral, because a lot of people asked me questions about where to find things, what colors to use as accents, etc. It was good fun, and I’m so happy to see that the posts haven’t dated at all!

You can find this lovely flashback here; I hope that you enjoy it.

love,
Janice

I'm searching right now for some camel for tomorrow's post, and it makes me want to pull out my hair. Why don't designers and manufacturers ensure that a reasonable range of colors is always available? I would…

Talbot's has shorts in camel this year. They even have them in petite sizes. I was really pleased to find them.

Actually, Talbots has quite a few pieces in what they're calling "true khaki."

I am very glad you posted this! I think this is something very overlooked in our fast-fashion world: having these really amazing pieces that you love, and hold onto for years, and feel amazing when you wear them!

I feel like you could expand your search to include words like "caramel", "butterscotch", "British tan", and cognac, and arrive at something close to camel, in color.

I love looking at your capsules and seeing how I'd make it work with my own clothes (8 days in Europe in the Fall, a long weekend at the beach, a dressy reunion pack, etc).- that's a fun activity for me. But lately I've been wearing zero pants- a couple skirts and the rest dresses is what's been working for me.

Could you do a capsule of all dresses and covers? I'd love to see your take on it!

In a big fan of stone or taupe colours, I find they don't fail to make me feel a bit classy. The capsule was perfect back then and now. As I read, I wanted to be that lady having all romantic dinners!

I adore camel, it's so much softer than some of the other neutrals, and just as versatile. How fun to see that your older capsules still apply today. This goes to show when you buy the right thing, it'll last a long time. Also thanks for stopping by myblog and leaving a comment. I'm always delighted to find out that someone is reading my posts! Thanks again Janice! Cheers, Lisa
