Classic, colorful, and so versatile! These are timeless for sure:
The colors here are obvious, but it’s always worth the effort to picture your plan as clearly as possible:
bracelets – Fierce Lynx Designs
Our heroine already has her good core of black and white things, upon which she will build with her accent colors!
Earrings – FV Jewellery; necklace – Tory Long; white tee – L.L.Bean; black cardigan – Alex Mill; striped tee – Madewell; black pants – Alex Mill; bag – Jeffrey Campbell; white jeans – Alex Mill; black linen skirt – Eileen Fisher; sandals – Dolce Vita; flats – Jeffrey Campbell
These colors are so much fun to look for in stores! And our heroine couldn’t resist a black & white striped shirt; if you have a bracelet with a striped bead, a striped shirt seems essential…
Blue cotton sweater – Lands’ End; bracelets – Fierce Lynx Designs; earrings – Bling Jewelery; orange linen shirt – Alex Mill; red cotton sweater – Alex Mill; blue cashmere scarf – Justlove; striped shirt – Lands’ End; print scarf – MOMA
Imagine traveling with this for a few days! Maybe you’d want to look for a pair of black & white spectator loafers, too?
Let’s take a moment to imagine a few of the possible ways our heroine could get dressed with these things in her bag:
You can tell I’m ready to travel!
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, we started with a gorgeous floral scarf from a store that’s no longer there! How things change…

I am so excited and energized by this capsule. I love a riot of color! The base of black and white is the perfect jumping off point for any color direction. The red and blue pops just make this sing, but I could also see this same base with any other brights. Pink? Perfect? Purple? Royal! Kelly Green? Vibrant!
Well done, Janice and I hope you’re enjoying your trip as much as I loved mine.
Love this wardrobe, the scarf and bracelet are amazing. I was expecting a six painting installment though. Did I miss something? I see on Insta that you had to cut your travel short. So sorry, and I hope you are well.
The other paintings will follow, I promise! But I wanted to get the April bracelet posted IN APRIL; although the May paintings are in April… Scheduling with me right now is not really hard and fast! And yes, I’m back in Chicago; my mother-in-law needed us back here, so here we are.
love,
Janice
I love orange, but I always pair it with navy. Orange and black feels vaguely halloween-ish to me even in spring!
I agree—I love orange and I do like black a great deal. I just can’t wear them together. In my own style, I do what you do. I wear black with navy…even dark navy..and wear pink or red with black.
A classic color palette that’s perfect for the crisp, modern geometric vibe of this capsule. The bracelets are terrific, and the scarf is magic.
I am so sorry to hear this. How kind you both are to her. You two really needed this trip. She will always be grateful to you both. I’m hoping you have another trip planned soon and you can enjoy life as you deserve 😍
We aren’t even going to TRY to travel. It makes no sense, when she’s so fragile. We just need to concentrate on what’s most important, and right now, it’s her!
Love is never wasted, right?
xoxo,
J
No, love is never wasted. You and your husband are the best!!
No, love is never wasted. You and your husband are the best!!
This post is amazing – I love Modrian’s paintings and the bracelet and your clothing suggestions are magic!! Shout out to Lynx Designs – beautiful!!
So sorry to hear you had to cut your trip short. I hope the time you had was full of fun and relaxing. Family is so important. I’m guessing your MIL is not “young”.
These bracelets are really fun!
She’s 95. We’re going nowhere, from now on…
love,
J
Anyone going away to celebrate America 250 could wear this wardrobe for the historical events and use the orange and black garments for non-semiquincentennial occasions. Janice, I’m so sorry you had to abandon your trip. Sending thoughts and prayers to your extended family.
My little mother-in-law is so precious; I think we should have known better than to even TRY to go somewhere!
love,
J
Bless you for taking good care of your family! I just wanted to say that I looked at that white tee and it’s such a unique take on a classic!! It has the dolman cap sleeves, the wide overlapped V neck and the gathers at the back. I might have to put one on my wish list! What I think some bloggers call a beyond basic tee.
This wardrobe feels very Miami 1980!
You are a creative, talented, wonderful blogger and an even better human being!
I want all of this and I don’t even wear black anymore!
You are a wonderful example of love and compassion to all of us. I would have loved to have my mom with us but alas things didn’t work out that direction. Love is a great gift!
Sorry that you have had to return sooner than planned. Life is short when relatives become frail.
I like the clear direction of this wardrobe though the Ted Baker florals are more me. It’s disappointing that so many classy brands are fast disappearing from the British high street as more department stores close.
Perfect way to perk up my black and white mini-wardrobe stored in the RV (which is stored in another state)! The plan was to keep basics there and travel with a few bright pieces. Now I know what to pack.
