Chic Sightings: Camel Coats, with Grey

December 23, 2013

Men have worn camel and grey together since… forever?  but I don’t see women wearing camel very often, and very seldom with grey.  It stands out in the oceans of black that I see this time of year, and looked very chic on the cold streets of Chicago!

Wrap – milleneufcentquatrevingtquatre, Camel jacket – Austin Reed,  grey jeans – 7 for All Mankind, fabric flats – Aerosoles, wrap coat – Jaeger, shibori silk scarf- Cathayana,  wedge pumps – Aquatalia

Camel collarless coat- Sonia Rykiel, scarf –Ana Maison, boots – Dr. Scholl’s, A-line coat –Viyella,  scarf- Etro,  boots- Aetrex

love,

Janice

My all-time favorite color combination–especially if the camel is more golden than brown. Thanks for these, Janice!

Intriguing observation. I live in an urban area where, besides a woman pastor I know, no one wears an overcoat.
Except for Sunday after church shopping at the now closed only supermarket in the city. Beautifully dressed older people. It was a delight and my favorite time to go grocery shopping. Otherwise, a sea of dark hoodies, both sexes.
To be fair, people wearing dressier coats are probably going straight from front door to car and thus I never see them.

I have always worn a camel overcoat. I chose one in junior high in California and my mother tried to dissuade me, it being dull and staid in her eyes. And I love camel and grey. But you've made me wonder whether, if I lived where men do wear camel overcoats, I would have chosen the same way.

Love this combination, but camel is just not my color. Sigh!

I never wore camel and grey either, but did you not show it some time ago in your blog? Most of my 'why didn't I think of this' pairings find their roots right here. Now when I wear grey and camel, I feel very chic indeed.

The combinations you show here are indeed chic and I love the style of coats you have picked, but I struggle with this color combination for myself. Camel can be a very difficult color for me to wear. Most are just simply too warm or golden and turn me sallow, and I also struggle with the combination of warm and cool. I prefer to keep warm colors together and cool colors together. For someone whose coloring and style aesthetic can pull this one off, I say go for it.

Lovely scarves featured today. I especially like the Etro plaid.

It's funny, I sometimes see silvery-grey dresses with nude or tan or camel pumps/bag/belt… but never the other way around! I really like this look :)

Nice selection of coats. When it comes to camel I do think that the British brands do them very well.

Holiday greetings from the other side of the world where it is hot and sunny. Pale blue, sand and white are the order of the day for my wardrobe as we breakfast on the verandah and look out over the sea. Best wishes to all from Avoca Beach, north of Sydney in Australia.

Great combo ideas. I have a camel coat that I want to wear more next winter. Now I know it will work with my grey jeans and leggings. Thank you. I have a new summer dress that combines ivory, grey and pale camel so I should have known they work well together. More happy wishes to everyone from Lisa in Tasmania, Australia (who has an old friend living in Avoca Beach coincidentally).

Love them! So much more luxurious than black and camel, IMHO
