Capsule Wardrobe Project 333: beyond the autumnal equinox

Project 333 has been a wonderful success chez moi, and I’m going to continue, with a seasonal “switch out” of clothes to accommodate cold weather.  I’m still loving the summer assortment, well past the end of August and the theoretical end of the first “3”, so the change over will probably take place on the first day of fall. This is what I’m planning – bear in mind that I need to pack for eight days in Paris from this assortment…

I plan to pursue A Common Wardrobe – probably on Saturdays, for at least a few more weeks.  The potential within that framework is nearly endless…

Gorgeous, dear Janice! Very inspiring — unfortunately we're still having 100 degree heat in So. Cal. Can you let me know the brand of the beautiful black dress with pleated skirt in panel 3? That's stunning.

That dress is from Sheinside. This particular image is standing in for a black velvet dress I have from Eileen Fisher which is… maybe five years old? Possibly older. Impossible to wrinkle, packs down into a pop can, and indestructible. It's the cornerstone of Paris packing!

      Janice,
Your comment reminds me of a question I have. Perhaps this could be the subject of a post? Can you give us (well..me?) some ideas on "quality education"? I have a feeling that if I tried on and examined garment A vs.garment B, I would see the difference, but where to begin? Are there brands that are consistently well made that would be a good place to start? I'm not saying I can rush out and spend a fortune, but my "clothing palate" needs educating. I'm afraid of even walking into the local Hermes store. A flashing light would go off above my head: NEWBIE!!! DOESN'T BELONG HERE! Well, you get the idea.
      Thanks!
      Renee

These are great pieces. Love the new pops of red, and I am dying of envy over that black boat neck dress. Paris packing should be a breeze. Heck, if you check a bag you could probably bring the entire project 333 wardrobe!

Looks very doable! You will not tire of your new red jeans…I am sure they will make the next 33 cut as well, lol. I guess I need to go back and see what your summer 33 was…

So after study, it looks like you have been able to carry over from summer the red twinset, the black twinset, blue jeans, black pants and your favorite black/gray argyle cashmere sweater. You replaced your khaki with gray. Well done!

This 333 project sounds intriguing, and I like all your choices (yes, I counted them). Surely, you beautiful new coat is going on your trip. And I assume that accessories are not counted. You have such beautiful scarves that they sould keep things interesting for a while.

A number of readers have commented that the items in "A Common Wardrobe" seem far too casual and that they are mentally swapping them out for a stepped up look. In a future post, could you pick one of your previous color schemes and re-do with dressier pieces? Thanks.

Would also love to see a dressier version of this if you somehow find the time. While I adore the casual slanted capsules I was considering having a dressy AND a casual capsule both so seeing a dressier version would be really nice.
Would also enjoy seeing the items grouped by item (ie; pants, tops, outerwear, etc.).
Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration.

Have you looked through the archives? Many of the core fours and not-so-crazy eights have some pretty dressy pieces.

Glad to hear we will be seeing more of "A Common Wardrobe". I loved what you have done already, and learnt so much from it.

You must have been born with some kind of genius fashion gene or something … all those pieces could go together in multiple combinations. Being an 80's kind of gal, I would like to see the purple sweater with the red jeans, maybe with one of the purple scarves from the purple set you did a day ago.

I see you've got a striped French sailor's shirt, like I do. They're so versatile!

Gotta go – today's the day I switch out my summer wardrobe for fall. I have a lot to do! I'm glad to see you're continuing your Common Wardrobe series and happy to see the 333 series. What does the 333 stand for, if I may ask?

You pick 33 outfits to wear over 3 months. There is a weblog about this, Living with Less, or something like that.

Project333 is Courtney Carver's amazing experiment in wearing 33 items for 3 months. Check out the Quick Start link on the sidebar. The new cycle begins Sept 17 (Monday!) but you can start anytime. It was hugely helpful to me for my first try, along with Janice's blog. Love, Love Love!

Will you also be showing your accessories for the 333 like you did last time?

I love your site, have learned so much. Thanks for your time.

Love the common wardrobe series. I have most of those pieces in my closet already! So, I've implemented a shopping freeze for the fall with the exception of accessories and shoes. Now I'm having fun pulling together different looks for those same common wardrobe outfits.

And I play for team casual. I work in high tech; in my office a twinset with a twill skirt is considered dressy.

it's actually black, with a black and white patterned band. And it's from Pendleton, about three years ago. It's a staple of my fall and winter wardrobe. I highly recommend Pendleton – they make petite sized sweaters, and their merino wool is lovely!
