A Blog to Visit…

August 24, 2021

Just a quick note today to let you know that one of our friends here has pulled together a wonderful wardrobe, and shared it on her blog:

https://deweystreehouse.blogspot.com/2021/08/inspired-by-estuaries-fall-clothes-story.html

She does a particularly lovely job of finding a handful of ways to style 1 dress, and she shares it with all of us…

Much to admire, and much to learn…

hugs,

Janice

Thanks very much, Janice! (It’s too hot here to wear those clothes yet! But there’s still time to enjoy summer weather.)

Thank you for introducing me to a new blog. Teal might be my accent colour for fall. I’ve got a few pieces and some scarves in my closet. I like how thrifted items were used in the blog.

Thanks Janice for sharing this blog. I’ve now got some great ideas for styling a teal dress in my wardrobe that I rarely wear.

I saw this blog listed in your “blogs I love” section last week. As an avid thrifter, I really appreciated this post. Also as a thrifter, your weekly wardrobe list is a great guide. I know the colors and types of items I’m looking for to fill holes in my closet. Coupled with the accumulated wisdom from years of reading TVF, I can comfortably keep a very curated(small) closet. Thank you

Also a hardcore thrifter, and it is so much easier with a wardrobe plan. For one thing, I skip straight to the colors that are part of my plan. It saves me an awful lot of time and “yes I know it’s not really my color, but it’s pure linen/wool/embroidered/made from the tears of baby angels and I can’t just LEAVE it here!”

Ha! That is exactly what I have to wrestle with too. Having a few self-imposed rules helps enormously.
I will remember these wise and hilarious words.

“the tears of baby angels” is the best phrase I’ve heard all day!

I do a circuit of my local charity shops once a week and antique/collectors fairs once a month. I also volunteer so I’m in prime position to find a bargain. Likewise, I cannot resist going into charity and antique shops when we visit a new town. These days, I’m looking less for clothes and more for accessories – bags, jewellery, scarves in specific colours. I will keep my eye out for a teal or plum winter coat.

    Janice,
Check out the new scarf “The Menagerie” by Echo that was announced on Tuesday, August 24.

The red is gorgeous! Almost looks Hermes.??

Also, just noticed the gold stars on the scarf. This could be one of the six scarves for 2022, if it lasts that long.

The “vintage” ultra-suede coat caught my eye because I have one in my closet and can’t bear to part with it since it was soooo costly years ago. Recently saw the coat priced at $10 at an estate sale …how depressing.

Mama squirrel I LOVE that! I’m so drawn to teal for the fall, and it’s fun to see what you did with it.

I’m so glad to discover thoughtful, well-written blogs by smart women! Instagram has stripped the world of words, and made everything about filters and likes. I decided I was going to ban instagram since anyways it is a giant shopping mall, and search for more holistic blogs that cover all kinds of topics – are blogs back? I believe many people are finding instagram more and more commercial and vacuous, and while that’s all well and good if that’s what you are after, I miss READING from other women. So glad to have found this space.
