Wardrobe: sky, sunset and pewter

Cardigan – Kain Alva, Blue linen shirt – Aubin and Wills, Orange tan – Topshop, White tee shirt – Vanessa Bruno, Orange Linen pants – J. Crew, White linen pants – Marc Jacobs, Silk skirt – Bruce II, silk scarf – Hermes

The wardrobes just keep getting harder!  The request for this wardrobe was: “I am a short, graying brunette in her early 60’s woman who lives in the South (think 4 seasons with an emphasis on hot & humid but occasional snow/ice). I think Katherine Hepburn with more colors would be my inspiration. Casual, few skirts/dressy itesm, but chic. I love the colors of the sunset and sky plus silver/pewter jewelry with black, charcoal or dark jeans as the neutral.”

So I focused on the colors of the sky and the sunset…  enjoy!

cardigan – Diane von Furstenberg, White linen top – Old Navy, Rose linen shirt – Old Navy, Chambray sweater – Ella Moss, Orange linen top – Vanessa Bruno, Cabled cashmere sweater – Ralph Lauren Black Label, Black jeans – Them Atelier, Dark blue jeans – Cheap Monday

Blue shirtdress – Madewell , Striped tee shirt – Oasis, Wool sleeveless sheath dress – Calvin Klein Collection, White shirt – Steven Alan, Cardigan – John Lewis, Shorts – Mulberry, Cropped linen pants – Emilio Pucci, Tank – Tibi

Square scarves – Hermès , Rope necklace – Charm and Chain, Orange tote – Longchamp, Sunglasses – Oakley, Pewter link bracelet – Links of London, ring – Fantasy Jewelry Box, Beach towel – Alexis Bittar, Printed muffler – Missoni, Striped shoes – Modcloth (one of a kind), Printed canvas flat – Toms, Pewter kitten heel sandal – Enzo Angiolini, Pewter and pearl necklace – Simply Soles, “Bow” earrings – Boe By Boe, 3 stone earrings – Monica Vinader, Silver circle stud earrings – Hermès, Pewter handbag – Marc by Marc Jacobs, Pewter ballet flats – Lanvin, Suede pumps – Salvatore Ferragamo, Embellished flat sandals – Topshop, Beaded flats – Donald J. Pliner

Some cool, roomy linen pieces, a couple of dressier options, and always a sweater for colder weather…

A request:  someone asked me for a wardrobe based on the painting Down on His Luck by Frederick McCubbin.  Could you PLEASE post a comment with a link to the best image of this painting on the internet?  When I searched for it, I found images in all sorts of various shades – I didn’t realize a painting could be represented so many different ways!  Thanks a ton.

And I’m still working on all your wardrobes.  I’m afraid I might have to start posting completed wardrobes “out of order”, as some wardrobes asking for a lot of summer wear are tough to complete this time of year, since most fashion images are well into fall clothing.  Thanks as always for your kindness and understanding of my frailties.

Again re: Down On His Luck. What the Australian Impressionists captured was the luminescence of the eucalyptus leaves. It makes me think of shot silk. None of the web images can capture the glow. As a Wardrobe Artist, I'm sure you'll rise to the challenge!

This wardrobe was my request and it is wonderful! I have been stuck in the basic colors I used to wear in corporate America and wanted to shift to something reflecting more my current life – without throwing out the clothes that fit and flatter. You nailed it!

Ever since I came to you through The Rich Life on a Budget I have been captivated! All your posts are so interesting. I would love if you would do a wardrobe for me: petite, size 16, 41, transitioning from flame red to white hair (almost there), classic with a vintage/edgy undertone, moving from va-va-voom to more tomboy. Black is my basic, with a bit of white, and jewel tone blue, green and some purple (what I call peacock colors). Sofia Coppola and Emmanuelle Alt are inspirations. Can you help?!? — Queen Lucia

I have to post again. I went shopping today for a couple more light weight nice t-shirts (its really hot & humid here). I printed out the wardrobe pictures and bought coral and light blue-violet t-shirts. They work very well on me. I know I will be referencing this as I buy clothes and especially using the color ideas.

If there were an international award for the Most Beautiful Blogger it should go to you for these wonderful wardrobe posts. For someone like me, imaginatively challenged when it comes to visualizing my wardrobe, they are a Godsend! I've started off right with my lovely gray trouser suit, but I was finding it hard to think of what should go with it. Now I'm just full of ideas of what to look for. I'm challenged by financial constraints (who isn't?) and have to search in charity and/or pre-loved clothing shops.

Seven years later, this is still gorgeous. I was thinking recently that my best colors are like a sunset. Plus a bit of green bc of my eyes. I love this! (And the description of the woman sounds just like me minus 20 years!) I think this has become my favorite blog. And I have a variety of interests. Xoxo

A touch of green with this be lovely – especially if you have green eyes! I'm so happy that you found this very old post – I should find a sunset photograph and use as a wardrobe inspiration…
      hugs,

What a beautiful inspiration- sky, sunset, and pewter! What a beautiful wardrobe!

I recently came across one of your posts on Pinterest, became enthralled, and am now reading from the beginning of The Vivienne Files. I love it. I’ve been interested in the idea of capsule wardrobes for a little while, and recently having lost a bunch of weight, your blog has crossed my path at a great time. I’ve been inspired to find my colours, and this particular post has given me the “permission” to be broad and perhaps unconventional in my colour choices. Thank you :-)
